มุมมอง 3511 หลายเดือนก่อน
In most social media groups about Star Wars, talking about Politics is one of those discussion you must agree NOT to talk about. So Nick and Carmelo decided to dedicate a whole episode to this super important topic: both how politics plays out in the narratives of the galaxy far far away, and how politics in our Terran world connect to the ways politics is represented in Star Wars.

Trying to watch but the audio is brutally hard to follow. USB mics with noise suppression turned off is the way to go.
I will keep that in mind going forward. We are a very low-budget podcast!
@ oh I understand. You may be able to improve quality without any increase in budget. As a fellow lover of the sequels, I can help you
I’m sooo excited for you Melo!!!! I can’t wait to see pics!!! And I’m proud of you both!!! 🫶🏻🙌🏻
Thank you again for having me and letting me ramble about my love for clones!!! It was so much fun! 🙌🏻
As someone who has a degree in Political Science I always love it when Star Wars explores the politics of the universe
There is SOOO much there!!
5:15 It is funny isn't it? Gene Roddenberry was an avowed Atheist but Star Trek is absolutely FILLED with Gods and characters pretending to be Gods from the Q, to the Prophets, the Organians, the Founders, to the Koala. But George Lucas is an ex-Methodist who converted to Buddhism and Star Wars has no "Gods" to speak of. The Bendu, Father, Son, and Daughter are just exceptionally powerful, fundamentally magical beings. They are not Creator Gods or members of a pantheon like the Greek Gods of Mount Olympus.
Very cool video!
Cool concept for a video
Loved season 2 for sure. Other than the season finale my two favorite episodes were Entombed and Metamorphosis. I loved the variety of the type of stories all the episodes told this year. We got a little bit of everything
The series continues to introduce mature themes and has subtle character development that is very well executed.
I like seeing u guys on the same spot the energy is dope.
We greatly appreciate that 🙏 More episodes are on the way!
Liked and subbed..
Force collector story with Carr was my recent favorite. Great show 👍
That is one I've been interested in checking out, but I haven't gotten around to it yet! So many books to keep up with! It slipped through the cracks! - Nick
Thanks for having me on this episode!
We enjoyed having you on! It was a blast!
Andor has become my favorite Star War series. I really found it fascinating how the series explored the various ways people can become a rebel and the different ways they can choose to resist and at the same time exploring the different type of people and personalities that choose to join the other side and become an oppressor. Interesting look at both sides of the coin
When they start requesting Star Wars panels ideas for 2023 DragonCon you should submit to do a panel about your class. They tend to do 1 to 2 academic focused Star Wars panels each year so I think a panel about your class is something they might be interested in
That is a great idea! Definitely something worth considering!
Last year there was a Mandalorian guest panel with Emily Swallow and Omid Abtahi that was really fun and interesting. Not every year has big Star Wars guests (this year's con featured a lot of Star Trek actors) but you never know. :)
I recall seeing that she was there and was disappointed that I didn't get a chance to met her! Her character in the Mandalorian is so fascinating!
I will attempt to answer the questions you brought up 1- This year's Con had around 60,000 people. They capped attendance as a Covid safety measure. 2019 attendance was at around 90,000. So basically they capped this year's attendance at 2/3 of what the pre covid attendance was. In 2021 they capped it at at 50% of the 2019 attendance. Attendance wise Dragon Con is usually ranked as one of the 5 biggest Cons in America 2-Dragon Con is one of the few Cons that does not pay speakers to attend. It is my understanding for big name attendees they over free Hotel Rooms and they pay for Travel. But if a guest wants to make money they need to do the photograph/autograph lines. So Dragon Con typically doesn't have as many big stars as some other big cons. That just have never been a big focus of Dragon Con. Although I will say this year's Con didn't feature as many big stars as they normally have. 3- Timothy Zahn pretty much attends Dragon Con every year. If he has published a new Star Wars book that year he does a panel by himself. Last year I was honored to be on a panel with him and another Star Wars fan. Because of Covid they weren't sure if he would be able to attend so me and the other fan was the backup to talk about the book if he wasn't able to be there. But he did attend so we got to talk about his newest Thrawn book with him. He was super nice. He signed a book for me and took a pic with me. Was certainly my favorite Dragon Con moment I have ever had 4-Dragon Con is considered the top cos play Con in America. Since the Con takes place in the hotels it allows the Cos Players to do constant costume changes throughout the day since they can just go up to their room to change and then head back down to the Con. It is common for cosplayers to wear 2 to 3 costumes a day. Dragon Con is famous for mashup cosplays. Cosplayers also tend to bring their costumes that they think other cosplayers will enjoy. Kind of their chance to show off their skills to other cosplayers. Think of it as the Super Bowl for Cosplay 5- The Storm Trooper at the Bar is a Dragon Con tradition. He stays there for the entire Con. Think of it as his duty station as a trooper. The Jawa playing chess is also an annual tradition that is a very cool way to raise money for a great cause. He is actually a eenager in real life so his chess skills are even more impressive when you learn that. Every year a different Atlanta charity is selected by Dragon Con. Dragon Con will match up to 100,000 dollars that is raised at the Con over the weekend. So ideally the entire Con will raise $200,000 for the selected charity. 6- The Marriott Carpet cosplay is a big thing at the con. That was the pattern of the old carpet at the hotel and it was so unique people incorporated it into their costumes. A few years ago the Marriott finally changed the carpet and that encouraged even more people to incorporate that pattern into their costume to keep the "Cult of the Marriott Carpet" alive. 7- If I had to guess about half the attendees are probably local to Atlanta. About 25% are probably from the Southeast since DragonCon is the biggest Con in the region. And the rest are from all over. Since Atlanta is home to the busiest airport in the world it makes it easy for people from all over to attend. A couple years ago a friend of mine from England actually flew over for the weekend to attend 8- Last year because Loki had just came out the entire Marriott staff wore "TVA staff" shirts the entire Con. Glad you enjoyed Dragon Con and thanks for the mention!
Thanks for that context! It was also a pleasure meeting you and looking forward to seeing you next con! Hopefully both of us can attend!
@@nickandmeloshyperspace9608 I already have my pass for next year. I always buy my pass for the next year as soon as they go on sale
@@yhctower I am going to get mine soon! This past year, we got them in January and it was not a bad price!
I am also curious what you both would think of a Darth Vader limited series. From what you said I imagine you might not be in favor, but hear me out. Vader keeps showing up in these Disney properties with a limited appearance usually. I think of how he was used in Rogue One especially, but also episode 5 of Kenobi, and some of the episodes of Rebels. Someone is always escaping him. They make him look cool but someone is always getting away because the story has to continue. I want a Vader limited series with a completely new story. I just want to see a cool Vader story where he gets to actually have a complete story. It would be fun if they brought back Hayden and did some Clone Wars era flashbacks.
I don't think either of us would be opposed to the show. We definitely would tune in! However, you are correct, we enjoy Vader in a limited capacity and don't know what else to say at this point. If the story presents itself then we wouldn't mind seeing it come together!
Hey guys! I loved the video. I found myself agreeing with most of your takes. I did side with Carmelo on the rock throwing lol it felt like they made Obi Wan stronger than he ever was before, which I didn't mind as an Obi Wan fan. I loved all the new characters. I thought Leia was a great surprise and was key to the heart of the show. I think the Inquisitors were probably the weakest part of the show, not counting Reva. I liked Reva's motivation. I do not think there needs to be a season 2, but I would love it if they used Ewan McGrgor from time to time for flashbacks or a scene similar to how he showed up in rebels.
It’s interesting to think about separating the legacy of the Jedi Order from the legacy of individual Jedi. I viewed the films in release order, so I first understood Jedi as individuals outside of any kind of organized religion with a hierarchical structure. Therefore, for me, the primary teachings of the Jedi as “balance” and “beware fear, anger, aggression,” instead of the main tenets of the Jedi Order (including a lack of attachments). Would someone who viewed films in chronological order view Jedi like Obi-Wan and Yoda as extensions of the Jedi Order, who just never explicitly refer to the Code, but who still reinforce the Code’s teachings?
Great first episode you guys! I really enjoyed it. On the topic of legacy, I will throw this idea out there. Legacy is so intertwined with Star Wars that maybe it dictates story telling directly. Would Rey and Kylo be who they are without legacy expectations in a star wars story?
That is a very good! The story of Star Wars itself is so intertwined with legacy that it is impossible to gloss over that.
So excited! Congrats on the show!
Thank you good sir!
