Zahra's first trail class 2014
มุมมอง 1.1K9 ปีที่แล้ว
This was the first "show" I took Zahra to. In the beginning she was very nervous but after a few minutes she warmed up, I just wish we would've had more time. When backing it looks like I'm fighting her to back up but I knew the whole time she was looking to dive her head down to eat the obstacle which is why I wanted her head up! This was taken last fall I'm hoping to bring her to the same sho...
How To Grow and Keep a Long Mane
มุมมอง 46K9 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I give tips on how to grow a longer mane on a horse and how to keep the mane long. When you braid up the mane it keeps the mane from getting pulled out, knotted up, and just being handled. The more often you brush it, the more hair comes out over time.

    Split ends? Just trim the freaking ends. And stop balling the hair up and the rubbing it. Your damaging the cuticles.

    i’m furious right now. i tried this out and only kept the braids in for about a week and a half. i took the braids out and chunks of my horses mane fell out with it. this lady sucks at giving advice. i will definitely never be back to your channel again and you need to check to make sure your tips actually work before you post them. so if the creator of this videos reads this, i would delete this video so you don’t make anyone else mad.

      I am really sorry to hear that you had this issue. I just wanted to make sure that you know that horses also shed their mane hair just like humans do. There is a normal amount of hair that humans (and horses) loose throughout the day. If you braid the hair, the loose hairs can’t fall out so if you undo the braid, all of them are going to be visible at once which is why it seems like it’s A LOT. But trust me, it’s not. It’s just all the loose hair that your horse lost over the time which got caught in the braid.

    Braiding a horses mane well brake the strand of hair and I know cuz my horses mane is around 3ft long and is now at 2.6cuz of keeping it plaited and never letting it down

  • @lacisix9879
    @lacisix9879 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay, so here is my take on this despite that fact obviously no one asks my opinion XD Yes, braids can pull on the horse's mane, but they also supplement blood flow! Which, therefore, supplements growth. I would recommend washing with olive oil (Do it for your own hair too! It's great!) and then putting maybe some coconut oil in it while braiding. Also, if you redo your braids a lot, try running braiding rather than just straight braids! Especially if your horse is a rubber! Instead of pulling on the top hair of the braid like it normally would, that section will fall out almost undamaged! Works really nice on my boy!

    Even if you were to put the braid tight at the base, it wouldn't hurt the horse because horses have no nerves in their necks and can't feel any thing that pulls their necks

    use a little coconut oil!!! it's really greasy so maybe only a little once in a while but it's a great conditioner and will help the hair grow... all while moisturizing your hands a lot XD

      The best coconut oil to use is the 'fractionated' or liquid coconut oil. I use the brand 'Natures Way' on my own hair and in many of my homemade cosmetic products.

    Hi beautiful horse :) But I do wonder, you say "no sikicone" but you use what I assume is "cowboy magic- detangler" the first 2 ingredients ate silicone. The fist (Cyclomethicone) is washable from the hair and less "build up and drying" than ingredient nr two (Dimethicone) is one of the very "silicon -y" ones. Just thought it might be good to know since the all natural (and sometimes very expensive) products then are not as effektiv :)

    How do you get the braids to stay I that long

  • @victoria883
    @victoria883 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    You shouldn't leave braids in your horses hair the braids make the area around the horses mane sore and it can be more prone to breakage of the hair. Love your video though.

    • @melmarsful
      @melmarsful 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even though she's doing the top loose?

    • @shannonmoffitt5489
      @shannonmoffitt5489 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you continue to braid your own hair no matter how loose, the action of braiding it can cause breakage and split ends, so can the rubber bands! You need a healthy mix of braids and it being let loose so their hair can can rest

    • @megahorseballs
      @megahorseballs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree have had horses 50 years and NEVER leave a mane or tail braided more that one day due to the breakage/constant pull. My own braid hurts after awhile. Also the horse's head was tied pretty darn high which hinders respiratory drainage.

    • @spannerclyde6832
      @spannerclyde6832 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I keep my horse's mane in braids and he has never found it irritating, if he did I'd know about it because he'd try to rub it out. I need to keep it in braids otherwise it gets tangled in his rug, my reigns and everything else. Since he rolls a lot it also keeps it fairly clean. Everyone has their methods but what matters is that the horse is happy, mine doesn't try to itch or rub out his braids so he has no problem with it :)
