Hi, thanks for this video! I have a small problem when uploading the revised drawings-they do not match the original scale (the revised drawing is smaller than the initial drawing). Even using the same scale does not fix this issue. Could you suggest a solution to overcome this problem?
Hi @yohanj25 - you can try resetting the scale when the new drawing comes in using this tool: Under "Drawings" tab > select "Reset Calibration" A step by step guide would be: 1. Create a new revision 2. Promote the original drawing to the new one. 3. When it's imported select the scale at point of import OR 4. Alternatively, you can import it, check what the scale is from the drawing notes and then go to your drawing properties and amend the scale there. 5. Equally, once your new drawing is imported, you click the Reset Calibration button as demonstrated above and then either select the calibration of X or Y axis and calibrate your drawing 6. This will update for the new drawing but the old drawing on the old revision, will remain as initially intended. Hope that helps!
If possible you can display some subtitles
Hi @iradukundabenjamin2793, you may turn on subtitles / closed captioning on the bottom right, second icon of the display bar. Hope that helps!
Good , but you speak so very quickly
This is totally wrong. You are excavating eveything at 200mm height without taking in mind the existing levels
Is this one wok for educational licensing cost x ?
How do I get costxl
Hi @Dynamicestimators, thanks for your interest! Please contact us via the form here www.rib-software.com/en/contact-us and the appropriate team will get back to you shortly.
Can I use the costX for road work earthworks?
Is there any way one can lock dimension group, so that that particular dimension is fixed and nobody can make any change to it or accidentally delete it?
Thanks for your video, it was very helpful. For vertical placement, what if the maximum length is 2.4m, but the wall height is over 2.4m, say 2.7m? Since many linings only come in 2.4m lengths, unlike Gib, is there a formula that takes this into account?
Hi, How can I copy my measurement and imported drawings from one cost x to another?
Hi How to show a note/remark in dimension group display (when hover a cursor on the measured area,it displays all the quantity, how can i show note in that)
Hi @aditirawat676, there are 2 ways you can show notes, you can either add a custom quantity field in your dimension group and populate this in measured dimensions with whatever comment you need. You can also use our 'Create MarkUps' tool which is located in the Dimensions tab under the 'Show' section. If you hover over this, it will detail how to use this function. Hope this helps!

Hi there, there is one more question. In term of time-related cost as you described in this tutorial, not all labor types, say electricians, plumbers etc, are needed through the project duration, so we can set the them in calc to comply with actual site conditions, right? In other words, people can set as many as necessary effective durations in <calc>, as staff and su-contractors get involved in the project and complete their tasks at different milestones, so time-related costs vary.
Hi @wiebittetube, this is correct - it's completely flexible, there are no confines in the calc sheet, if you had a different figure - you would simply enter this and have it as a different named cell, which can be referenced anywhere.
Good presentation. My question is, what if the set of drawing has been changed, how can we keep the relink of the value to the drawings of newer version. I know we can compare the difference by using the function set in costx. Yet the best way is to relocate the live link from old drawings to the newer one, so time and energy can be saved then.
Hi @wiebittetube, I'm glad you enjoyed our tutorial! If you're talking about receiving new drawings as part of a revisioning process, then the use of our Revisions functionality might be better suited. When using revisions, after a drawing is promoted to a new revision (with a new drawing file selected), the dimensions taken on the previous drawing are displayed on top of the new drawing in the drawing window. Hope that helps!
Perfect! 👍🏻
can we use cost x for highway earthworks and pavement Take-offs? if yes please provide us with detailed training video.
Be cool to see a video on complex custom quantities!
How to highlight measured area in a drawing continuosly to avoid double measurement in linear measurements
Hi @raiska1003, so if the item you're measuring is in the same dimension group, then it will remain highlighted on the drawing so long as the dimension group remains selected. If you're trying to measure in another dimension group, but you want a measure from another dimension group displayed on the drawing, you simply select the dimension group you want to see on the drawing, then in the 'Current Folder' you select which dimension group you want to measure in. The 'current folder' can be found right underneath the dimension group tab with a drop down menu. Hope that helps!

Can we use the total quantity of one item to apply it to another item and then make the necessary deductions? For example, the total quantity of foundation excavation (BOQ Item A at Level 1) will be shown in the quantity breakdown at Level 2. Now, for disposal (BOQ Item B), I need to take the full quantity of Item A from Level 1 to Level 2 of Item B and deduct the backfilling quantities. Is there any function to accomplish this?
Hi @yohanj25, thank you for your question! You will need to make the BoQ Item A at Level 1 a 'Named Cell'. To do this, you just need to right-click the cell and select 'Name Cell' from the menu. When the window pops up you can name it something appropriate i.e. 'BoQ Item A'. Once you've done this, you can go to Item B on level 2 and use the formula =XGETNAMEDCELL("BoQ Item A",2)-'backfilling quantity'. The backfilling quantity can be a cell reference i.e. C1 or can be an entered amount, it could also be another named cell. There is further information on this in our help guide which is the question mark (?) button in the top right of the screen or you can press F1 on their keyboard and search 'Named Cells'. Hope this helps!
@@RIBCostX Wow, it worked! Thank you for your support. Also, I would like to learn more in-depth about CostX functions. Do you have a separate guide for this purpose?
@@yohanj25 you're very welcome! Yes, there is lots of info on this in our help guide, if you press F1 whilst in the software, our help guide will appear, you will then have the opportunity to search for 'Workbook Custom Functions' and there is a whole article on the different functions that CostX offers. There are around 30 functions that can be used in workbooks and in some cases can be used in Dimension Groups. Hope this helps!
@@RIBCostX Thank you so much! I will go through with it. If possible, please do a video series on those functions with some examples. Keep up the good work! Cheers!
Thank you for this wonderful short and rich introduction to CostX
Great done in the UK market. Is it possible to do the same for Rawlinsons/other price books in Australia? Thanks a lot.
It would be greatly appreciated if the video quality is in HD.
Great video, thanks!
Very useful . Thanks
Let say I have timber linings measured across multiple drawings, is there a drawing report that will print all related drawings related to that one line item?
Hi Alex, Unfortunately we don't have that functionality yet, but this is something we are looking to include in a future release. Hope this helps!
@@RIBCostX Good to know but doesn't help, the process to extract drawing is a tedious process currently.
These updates have been long overdue!

Thank you so much
How are the constants determined? Why are the roof Hip/Valley constants different from roof rafter constants?
Hi! The reason for the difference between the hip/valley constants and the roof rafter constants is due to Pythagoras theorem, where the hip/valley forms the hypotenuse of a right-angle triangle made up by the rafter, ridge, and hip/valley lines i.e., if you look at a hip/valley on a roof plan, it will be at 45 degrees to the rafters and its length will be longer than the rafters that run straight up the roof. Therefore, hips and valleys gain the same height (eaves to ridge) as the rafters but over a longer distance, causing their gradient or pitch to differ from the rafters. Hope this helps!

However, if you require further customisation, we also have our Custom Report Writer available. There is training available for this at our training website training.itwocostx.com or you can refer to the Advanced CostX manual. Hope this helps!
