While we were gearing up to go to Iraq, we had some weapons competition in the down time. I did my best to hide from the festivities till my Platoon Sgt. found me. Going in cold, hadn't taken apart an M-16 in ages except for cleaning, they put me against the fastest in the platoon, this kid knew all about his weapons. Breaking it down right to the firing pin, buffer spring and all, I beat him by 4 seconds lol. Then we had a timed breaking it down and re-assembly. Beat him by 10 seconds. 1.43. They all started chanting at me.... Old School! Old School! Then that became my nick name. Granted I had already been in for 20 years and a Sgt, I should recall things like that like second nature.
