Col du Parpaillon - North, Road D39T, Hautes-Alpes, Côte d'Azur, France - by motorcycle and drone
The strategic importance of a military road link between the Durance and Ubaye valleys (e.g. Fort de Tournoux) was recognised as early as the 16th century and corresponding construction projects were initiated. However, it was not until 1911 that this connection could be established, as it was only then that the technical requirements for the construction of the necessary crest tunnel were met. Construction of the 520 metre long tunnel began around 1891 and therefore took around 20 years. The tunnel passes under the natural pass height of 2780 metres at an altitude of 2632 metres. Today, the pass is no longer of any military or commercial significance. It is poorly developed (approx. 25 kilometres of gravel road) and the simple passage through the tunnel is very dependent on weather conditions. The Col du Parpaillon has been replaced in almost all respects by the parallel Col de Vars pass a little further to the east.
The northern ascent begins at the village of Crévoux / La Chap, which can be reached from Emdrun (N94) after a long journey. From here, the D39T road leads for about 12 kilometres to the pass tunnel. The first third of the road is still tarmac, the second third is a gravel road and the last third consists of clay soil, which can quickly become dangerously slippery when wet.
The northern ascent is located in the Hautes-Alpes department in the province of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
ATTENTION: In December 2023, a landslide damaged the south side of the Col du Parpaillon. However, the route is now passable again and the southern tunnel portal has been uncovered. But there was also a rockfall inside the tunnel, which is in a very unstable condition. The tunnel is closed and should NOT be entered or travelled through. A reopening is uncertain.

schöne Strecke,danke fürs mitnehmen.Da muss ich aber passen,Schotterkehren traue ich mir mit meiner Dicken + Gepäck nicht zu.
Teils ruppige Wasserdurchfahrten kommen auch noch dazu. Da bedarf es schon eines etwas spezialisierten Mopeds. Danke für den Kommentar!

Um die Dir zur Verfügung stehende Zeit beneide ich Dich. Ich habe mir ein paar Deiner Videos angesehen, daher kam meine Frage. Ab Mitte April will ich ein paar Strecken nachfahren. Deine Beschreibungen sind da sehr hilfreich.

This is the apex tunnel of the Col du Parpaillon. About 520 metres long, unlit and very, very uncomfortable depending on the weather conditions. But the tunnel is currently closed and will probably remain closed for a long time. In December ‘23, a landslide and rockfall on the south side caused severe damage to the tunnel. Die Strecke ist mit der XADV UND Frau bei trockenem Wetter auf jeden Fall machbar. Durch den Tunnel geht's sowieso nicht; der ist gesperrt. Danke für den Kommentar!

Altro giro ( percorso in 2 occasioni) iconico e effettuato dal lato più abbordabile anche per le maxi enduro con la salita che presenta un andamento più regolare e meno sconnessa con panorami più godibili. Dal versante opposto La Condamine Châtelard è decisamente più impegnativo per le maxi. Complimenti per il video. Saluti
Sì, il versante sud è più ripido e impegnativo. Inoltre, il percorso è ostacolato da una frana (luglio '24). Il versante nord è più facile da percorrere ma almeno altrettanto bello. Grazie per il commento!

Percorso molto interessante fatto in senso contrario nel 2021 con la mia CRF 1100 (adatto anche alle maxi enduro). Per chi arriva dall'Italia: Colle del Piccolo S. Bernardo-Bourg Saint Maurice-(deviazione per Fort La Platte molto panoramico)-Cormet de Roselend-Barrage de Roselend- rientro nella D925-Les Colombières- Barrage de Saint Guerin-Cormet d'Arêche. Gern' geschehen! Der Einstieg liegt etwa 2 km hinter/südlich der Ortschaft Lans (N44.391576, E006.775494). '23 war der Weihnachtsmann da und hat ein neues Fluggerät mitgebracht. Von den Videos der Saison '24 sind fast 90% mit Flugbildern. Danke für den Kommentar.

Es gibt noch eine Hardcore Strecke von Casterino aus Richting Peyrefique….wenn man sich quälen will 😉
Ich wollte diese Strecke von Col de Tende bis Casterino im letzten Sommer fahren, aber es hat zeitlich leider nicht geklappt. Wieso schreibst du 'wenn man sich quälen will'? Ist diese Strecke sehr schwierig?
Dein Vorschlag trifft bei "Baise de Peyrefique" wieder auf die "Hauptstrecke" und kürzt diese um etwa die Hälfte ab. Die ersten 2/3 der Stecke sind steiler und anspruchsvoller aber doch ohne Probleme machbar. Aber die Strecke führt durch dichten Wald und ist damit uninteressanter. Auch geht man hier vielen Wanderern auf die Nerven. Danke für den Kommentar.

Il viale d'accesso al forte è chiuso ai veicoli motorizzati da diversi anni. Non esistono scorciatoie o deviazioni. L'accesso è vietato. Chiunque venga sorpreso con un veicolo (moto o auto) al forte o alla caserma (poco più a sud) pagherà 280 euro. Grazie per il commento!
Danke für das Lob! Die Auffahrt zum Fort ist seit einigen Jahren für motorisierte Fahrzeuge gesperrt. Es gibt keine Schleich- oder Umwege. Die Zufahrt ist verboten. Wer beim Fort oder bei den Baracken mit einem Fahrzeug (Motorrad oder Auto) erwischt wird, bezahlt 280€. Danke für den Kommentar!

@@walkthemavic4197 Danke dir - das ist ja ein richtiger Offroad Reifen. Will heißen, dass ich das mit einem bissi Offroad Reifen (Conti Trail Attac) gar nicht probieren brauche.
Dein Reifen ist auch OffRoad! Bestens geeignet für Schotter. Meiner ist nur bei Nass und Schlamm besser!

i drove on that ridge as well ! we came from the Italian side of the mountain. The route you took was closed for us. Great place for all bikers ! on the top there is a great " restaurant / bar " , great views and great food! We tried to visit some of the forts but got lost on the mountain :D

Gern' geschehen! Ich bin die Strecke am 23. Juli gefahren. Zu dieser Zeit war die Durchfahrt von 06:00 bis 20:00 Uhr geöffnet. Talfahrt jeweils zur "geraden" Stunde; Bergfahrt zur "ungeraden" Stunde. Durchlass jeweils 1/2 Stunde, dann 1/2 Stunde Puffer. Ich hoffe, ich konnte helfen. Danke für den Kommentar!

Ich habe den Vorteil, dass ich meine Touren immer zwei mal fahren kann. Das erste Mal live und das zweite Mal beim Videoschneiden vor dem Bildschirm. In dieser Saison bin ich bis Mitte April '25 beschäftigt und dann habe ich das Moped schon wieder ausgewintert. Danke für den Kommentar!

Ciao posto bellissimo....sei salito da Marmora e calato da Demonte?
Il mio piano era di andare da Marmora al Colle Fauniera, poi al Colle Valcavera e quindi tornare a Marmora attraverso la Strada della Gardetta. Pensavo che sarebbe stato un bel giro. Ma come si può vedere negli ultimi secondi del filmato, il passaggio Fauniera/Valcavera era chiuso. Così ho fatto lo stesso percorso per tornare a Marmora. Potete vedere le altre salite della Valle Grana e del Vallone dell'Arma, che ho percorso nel 2023, in altri filmati. Grazie per il commento!
@@walkthemavic4197 Purtroppo é da l'anno scorso che stanno facendo dei lavori su quella strada ed é quasi sempre chiusa....molto bello é anche il Colle di Sampeyre dalla Val Maira alla Val Varaita....ciaoo buone motoavventure e grazie per i video sempre molto belli 👍✌️🍀

In diesem Jahr ('24) waren Touren dabei, die mit der NC absolut unmöglich sind. Also musste ein neues Moped her und die Wahl fiel auf eine leicht modifizierte CRF. Die NC steht fahrbereit in der Garage meines Neffen und kommt dann (geplant) im nächsten Jahr wieder zum Einsatz! Danke für den Kommentar!

Ich habe jetzt genau 20 Brücken, die den (Bei)namen "Pont du Diable" tragen, besucht. Mein Liste an französischen Teufelsbrücken ist damit voll. Es wird keine weiteren Brücken aus Frankreich mehr geben. Allerdings gibt's in Italien einige Brücken (Ponte del Diavolo), die auch ein kleines Filmchen wert sind. Danke für den Kommentar!

This year I did my ride about 6 weeks later than usual. I had Jafferau, Parpaillon, Mallemort etc on my list and really wanted to wait until the snow had melted. So I filmed my last French Devil's Bridge first and then continued with my ride videos. The first video will be on October 26th “Colle Fauniera (Marmora)” and then as usual every other Saturday another video. Thanks for the comment.
Est-ce praticable en vélo à assistance électrique de Seyssel à La Balme svp ?
J'ai pris la route D992 de Seyssel à La Balme. Il y a environ 40 km. Je n'ai cependant pas fait attention si la route était particulièrement adaptée ou non aux vélos. D'après mes souvenirs, la route ne devrait pas poser de problème aux vélos. Il existe toutefois une piste cyclable spéciale le long de la rive ouest du Rhône, qui peut être utilisée pour une grande partie du trajet. Merci pour le commentaire.

Gern' geschehen! In diesem Jahr hab' ich meine Fahrt etwa 6 Wochen später gemacht als sonst. Ich hatte Jafferau, Parpaillon, Mallemort, etc. auf dem Programm und wollte auf jeden Fall die Schneeschmelze abwarten. Auf dem Colle Fauniera war ich am 1. August und habe dabei die Auffahrt von Marmora gefilmt. Grana und d'Arma hab' ich ja schon. Das Filmchen kommt am 26.10. Leider war die Durchfahrt Fauneira/Valcavera gesperrt. Ich bin dann wieder zurück und dann über die Gardetta auf die andere Seite. Danke für den Kommentar.
