It´s simply great. I´m 67 still playing and learning. Thanks!
Absolutely amazing! I can't put into words how helpful this is. It cleared so many doubts I never even i had while also opening doors for other new concepts. Wish you the best!
Thanks a bunch, I'm glad you found it useful! Anything else you'd like me to talk about? Currently collecting video ideas for the coming weeks/months
@@DidierLec I have no business suggesting topics to a master like yourself, but i'll try: Reharmonizing melodies, analysis of famous old school songs and why they work, adding tension to progressions, alt tunings and when to use them, expanding about some cliches in jazz like you talked about briefly in this one. Again, I'm barely an intermediate guitarist and a mediocre musician at best, so take this with a grain of salt. Thank you very much!
@@aaryanairy756 Thanks a lot! No need to talk yourself down: you gave me at least 2 great video ideas that I think I'll get to relatively soon (maybe even january/february). Thanks for the tips!
Gen X here. I'm on the autism spectrum and dyslexic so it's harder for me to read because letters jump around and I have to reread what I just read to comprehend. Luckily for me the autism helps me focus on things I love that doesn't require reading like music. I play guitar about 8-10 hours a day because I hyper focus on it. I wish I had the ability to read that much but it's very frustrating to have to go over it again and again to make sure I didn't get something wrong. I may do what the other person said and see if that works for me. By the way, I really like this channel. You get straight to the point and it's easier for me to learn from the way you give examples. Thank you so much.
Thanks a bunch! Great to hear that you like the channel. I have to admit that your story about reading seems very recognizable (I'm wondering if I'm AuDHD), but playing guitar for 8-10 hours in one day is something I'm jealous of. (Jealousy is such an ugly emotion...)
@@DidierLec I was originally diagnosed with bipolar and then it became a dual diagnosis a few years later. It was apparently obvious but growing up when I did they think anything of it because I spoke here and there so they thought I was just shy. There's many of us out there. I know in the US it can be quite expensive to get a diagnosis but I know in other countries it's much easier to see if you are on the spectrum but also getting help with learning and focus strategies. It's worth looking into. I'm not going to lie, there's days that I thoroughly enjoy playing but others that it's kind of a mindless need to play just for the routine so no need for jealousy I promise. You're an amazing guitar player from what I've seen and someone I'm going to continue to learn from. You're style of teaching makes sense to me. Thanks again.
Love the playing and enthusiasm! Beautiful chords
Thanks a bunch, glad you enjoyed!
Our obligations and ambitions are a double edged sword 😂
You can say that again
Yes great way to develop your chords. I like the 5 1, b3 or 3 shape on the 3 bass strings & move it up & down with the top 3 strings open. My tune went Em D C B, Em D Em F# F Em, that chromatic move gave me a tingle. The ending was Em D Em G F# F Em......
Love the chord progression! The F# - F parts are unexpected, but it still fits
Lost me at, "Hello". One for the purists and musical snobs.
Christmast😊😊
It's great to know that curiosity and freedom is still granted to us.Great lesson. Thanks
Thanks! Great to know you appreciate it
Hi.I'm interested in what would be the dominant of the iii chord ? How do I gift it a leading tone ? Because diatonically it is a diminished chord on the 5. Thanks.
Secondary dominants always are dominant chords, and therefor use notes from outside of the key we're in. In the key of C, the iii chord is Em, and the secondary dominant leading there is B7, using the notes D# and F#, that don't occur in the key of C major
Reading is hard for me because its understimulating for my ADHD brian. When I am making art I always have music or videos playing in the background, so sitting down to just read and nothing else is difficult. When I do read these days I will listen to the book and read it at the same time to help with focus.
Oh, interesting, listening it and reading it at the same time! Never thought of that. Apparently listening to rythmically simple music, without lyrics, can help with focus as well, in case that helps. Thanks for sharing!
I rarely read fiction but, I can also really admire the story itself. The way someone has creatively spun a thread from their mind. It is the artistry of the writer that makes me read in big chunks. I read Orwell now and then, Shakespeare too.Just to admire the words themselves.
I have to admit, good storytelling is amazing, and fiction certainly has that. Maybe I just didnt really get into reading fiction yet?
Easy solution: Read about 50 philosophy books and then do what you want to do anyway!! YOU GOT THIS, MAN! Do we need another person to help us figure out the diminished chord world!? YES! Your perspective is deep and purposeful. We need it.
Thanks! Love the support, and 2025 is going to be a great year for the channel
You deserve it! Great presentations and ideas! Forge on! Thanks
Good explanation of harmony. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Well explained - seasons cheers.
Thanks, and happy holidays!
That's a first for me - it's an honour. 😊
The honour is mine!
Beautifull

Hey Didier - as a 70 yo creative I've finally managed good consistency with exercise. For 18 months I've built up my daily walks from 2 ks to 4 ks av. Iphone keeps track for me. +ve reinforcement..... perseverence furthers.... creativity takes time.....
Good to hear! Then maybe there's hope for me as well: I'm having trouble staying consistent with the exercise part
I'll start tracking thank uuuuu❤
This “pivot” chord is the guitar lesson I was looking for sixty years ago! 😭 Must watch a few times because this is a goldmine of information
Thanks! It's a great trick to play around with, enjoy it!
You’re a striking man! Thank you for doing this
Great lesson, subbed
Thanks!
I like the way you explain your lessons. They are easy to understand. It’s nice to find a jazz guitar teacher on TH-cam who can explain the theory and who also gives good examples on how to apply it. Would love to see an expanded version of a chromatic movement when playing chords to some popular jazz standards like “Fly Me To The Moon”. Thank you! Subscribed!
Thank you for this lesson
How about a video sample of harmonic movement to a popular jazz standard like “Fly Me To The Moon” with chordal analysis like you did here?
That's an idea, I'm writing it down, always looking for more video ideas! Thanks!
This is great stuff! Where have you been all this time?😊
Haha, waiting for you to discover me
@@DidierLecI subscribe to several jazz guitar TH-cam channels and while they’re all good, yours is the only one IMHO that explains the whys and wherefores of chordal functions. Well Done!
Now I understand! ❤
Glad to hear!
I like your sensible way of teaching; easy to understand
Thank you.Inspiring teaching.
Thanks a lot!
another great Lesson, thanks
You're welcome, and thanks for the support
That is an excellent explanation ..hats off to you from Australia 👍
Thanks a bunch!
Your teaching are so good, that i started learning Notation and Music Theorie from you. Iam 45 and play Guitar pretty good selftought. thought i never learn Notation really deep. But with your Videos iam back at it. Music is Love Love to you from Germany..... I wish you 1Million subs!
Thank you so much! And great to hear that you're studying musictheory again, love to hear that and I'm happy to know it was valuable to you!
really great teaching
Thanks!
Really appreciate this lesson, thanks a million :D
I'm glad you appreciate it!
Don't think I've ever left a comment on a video on this account before, but man your channel is incredible. Every word was in place, so spot on.
Wow, I'm humbled, thanks a whole lot for the support!
I knew about the use of the diminished substitution and scales but the way you packaged many variables and how to use in an easy to understand video is priceless!!! . Now I know more and need to put in context in practicing!!! Thank you for sharing the knowledge!
Thanks for the support! I'm glad to know this helped you
Great to see another small channel popping up on my feed. Nice work, good luck growing your channel!
Thanks a bunch, and you too!
the only thing about jazz is that it sucks
It doesnt need to be jazz! Soul/R&B uses them as well, and metal, disney songs, classical music, latin, and even the occasional singer-songwriter
You're just too weak to play it😂
Great lesson. Going to take me a while to unpack and learn all these diminished voicings.
So glad to get you in my TH-cam feed this morning, very happy to be your 700 subscriber. Thank you for giving us the keys to the highway without any Hidden agenda. Looking forward to learning more, thank you so much
No, thank YOU for the support, I appreciate it!
This really helped me understand more ways to incorporate diminished chords in my song writing
Glad that the video has been useful to you!
Top-class lesson! Thank you sir. Lots of useful information, low-key, clear, relaxed presentation, no click-baity nonsense,, well-paced. Everything to like. Now I'm off to do some homework putting it into practice.
No, thank YOU, and have fun practicing!
Very nice ❤
