Gyude Moore presents a very level headed and politically neutral exposition of Chinese investment in Africa. I'm surprised that he didn't talk about how Africa is a net importer of food.

Africa needs to start taking responsibility for its relative backwardness. No one placed a gun to the heads of Africa's leaders and forced it to sign these inequitable deals. Asia and Africa came out decolonization around the same time yet it is Africa which is still behind while Asian nations are closing the gap and even surpassing the US and the West. The true problem is a lack of human capital in Africa. Not enough brain power and bo accountability, period. These talks by Africans are full of excuses. Heck, it still hasn't taken responsibility for its role in the Arab and Trans Atlantic Slave trades.

On all accounts from almost every country doing business with China is straightforward and shows promise. No humiliation, lectures, or superiority involved. Straight business and progress-minded. Doing business with China is a no-brainer, it's objectively better.

This guy seems free at calling out the Chinese as a country. But he’s obviously afraid to call out the collective West or name individual European countries or America as resource plunderers of African nations. He mentions African debt (to the IMF/ World Bank/ the West) very ‘softly’, without calling these countries and their governments out for neo-colonial trade policies. I guess it was 2018-19. In 2024, people are less afraid of calling out the West for its inequitable trade and foreign policies.

A rich African people and African society is great benefit for China. If African people become rich, China will have 1.4 billion rich trading partners that can doing trade with Chinese merchant, either China sell their manufactured goods & services to Rich Africa and make money or Rich Africa sell their manufactured goods & services to China and make money. So it's win-win for both Africa and China Otherwise, when Africa is poor, China can't have rich partners to doing such trades and it will be a problem for China itself because they lose 1.4 billion both for potential market and for potential sellers That's why China want African people to become rich and prosperous first because that's how both China and Africa get benefit from globalization
