I plan to buy the Voyager drop point for outdoor/wood tasks; which is why I am attracted to the Recon 1 in tanto shape for every day use. But I can’t decide between Recon 1 Tanto or Recon 1 Spear point for everyday use (there is also a redundancy issue with the Voyager drop point). Any help or input would be appreciated.

I like how big it is. It is less likely to slip if you stab something
I have the desert tan or whatever. After about 3 months it hasn't rubbed anything off. It has only failed to deploy once when checking my equipment every morning. My only complaint is the switch is really stiff. It doesn't rattle and has very little blade play. I have the drop point blade in black coating wish it had been the tan color.
Really good review. I guess it (as you say) comes down to personal preference because they're both awesome, top-tier knives!! You made my choice,..Michrotech FTW!!
Use zip ties for belt loops. Can work for both horizontal and vertical carry.
Good review, love the honesty. That said, I just picked up the Lite Version for 39.99 on Midway and couldn't pass it up.
The knife shouldn't cost more then 100$ But that's not the case I see knife's for over 300$ it's robbery when they get free shipping pay the workers next to nothing. They copy everything from hard working Americans. What quality knife's you think we will get if their the only ones to go to? JUNK because you get what they want you to have in that Country I'll save my pennies and buy from a decent company who takes care of it's people.
Nope. Leave it thin, you have a thicker knife already. Let us minimalist have the thin one
"You know" .......
A measurement video is just dumb!!! 😮😂😢 the measurements are on the box lmao
Are you aware that its a high quality polymer mixed with Carbon Fiber.... that makes it increbily durable, lightweight and (EXPENSIVE)??? Or are you dense calling it plastic lol, did you need more bads to find. Mine sits fully centered unless its in the hilt in which case it sits on one side before being ejected.
What if I told you that "they" want you to buy the standard version 😎
Thompson WAS Cold Steel. I hope these new people don't F it up.
What grind is this blade?
@@BOGEY-SIX hollow grind
Theres people out there that think TANTO MEANS CROWBAR IN JAPANESE.
@@horse.395 🤣
Look down the barrel everytime my wife leaves me.
Thank you for this video.
@@slugga06 your welcome
I have both knives. I tend to carry the lite version for work because I am very hard on it and it takes a beating. I carry the s35vn when I have something casual. I like the plastic scales because I feel like they grip very well. The Aus 10 is very durable and easy to sharpen. I got the lite for 55 dollars on eBay new and the regular for 90 on amazon. Both are great. Just depends on what you want to pay
With a couple of zip ties the Kyotos make excellent appendix cross draw carry or for appendix reverse grip deployment. I find this handle feels slightly more secure in the reverse grip. Just a shame they don't come with clips like the CRKT Minimalists. But I still wear at least one Kyoto every day. With the zip ties, the sheath melts into my belt and i can sit or drive and not feel them at all, even with a little belly. I feel the Minimalists' sheaths ( Persian and Katana ) when i lean forward in my chair, but not the Kyotos. And they don't poke out from under your shirt much. Great review!
This knife was explicitly made to disassemble a human body. It was not made for bushcraft.
Here we are in 2024 and I see the 12 inch version going for $170 in some places.
the reason being is because it is the elite it's not the original you can still buy the original lightning. and yes Cobra tech is one who remarks this knife with D2 steel and a little bit different outside grip. the original lightning I believe it's better than the lightning elite
as a self defence aspect for a back strike that handle is awesome!
I know extrema ratio is VERY expensive overseas, they are expensive here in Italy, I own several and this one is my favourite by far, it's now issued to IT army and has several sizes and locks for bayonette use, this thing was studied to be undestroyable. They studied the geometry to make it this durable: infinite. I owned a Col Moschin (a fighting knife) and years later I got the full size fulcrum... wow. If you plan to invest in this company, I highly suggest one of the fulcrum family or the dobermann.... that is PURE insanity. I went to their workshop in Tuscany, this year the place moved to a bigger facility reducing the cost of 30%! To be realistic I collect mostly USA made knives, and they are expensive the same way (I mean, who doesn't own a delica or an osborne and a a paramilitary 2?). Sure they are way more expensive here, you can't believe how much is a microtech here... but ER knives, they are worth the money, granted.
Like you, I've been'Eye-Ballin', this Beauty for quite some time & a Host of reasons.!! The American Made Steel & Micarta alone is enough for me to purchase it, all I needed was a video w/ multiple angles & gripping shots - - Deal Done..!!! Btw, eBay sells this blade exactly as you show it for $185.00, plus Sales Tax and $16.00 Shipping. Total Cost, w/ Sales Tax is $213.95. 🇺🇸
Is the pivot using bearings?
@@Velocity0428 brass washers is what the blade rides on
@@EDCTantoKnives Is that a good thing or a bad thing compared to bearings?
Hi, very interesting video. Which one is your favorite between the 7 and 12 inch. If need to use in a fight for home defense.
I can testify I have carried this knife for over 8 years and it has been an excellent everyday carry/Work knife.
Retardation
I have 3 Micro Ludts and 13 Protechs and the tanto Ludt is my fav by a mile !
This is an AK or AR argument, both 🔥..
A Strider MEFP SnG in 3V: $650 on the site, $1000 on the Facebook group. It’s just how it is, that’s kinda how it’s always been for specific companies and purveyors. Monkey Edge is one of the “best” for flipping, inventory drains quick from the site but the third party flipping is substantial. MEFP is a special status symbol.
Awesome video, out of curiosity what month and year is on that blade? I want to pick one up but I think my old one has a steel detent. Yours looks to be ceramic?
It’s not over kill when you have $150+ per pen in that case. In my opinion
I agree
Where this made?
One of the coolest CRK fixed blades.
Thanks for the review.
I have both the tanto and clip point versions that I ordered from Blades Canada all the way to Hawaii. I also have all the other versions. Love them

Great pouch! ZF makes really good stuff, and is affordable!
What a weird knife that Kershaw is lol. I love Kershaw but thats a law work around knife. 😅
Yes it totally trying to market around the law of some places 🤣
I had the exact issue out of the box with 2 qsp swordfish knives. I think I am swearing off button locks..
My brother very nice presentation, I like how you get right to the point without over talking.
Thank you
I no like fixing with buttons - no practical every time to do this , when take out or put in , especially during mooving. I better like , method , used on Glock 78 or similar.
I noticed some grinding in my Big Idea Design Bolt Action pen and realised the bolt pin had unscrewed slightly, exposing the threads, which were grinding against the edge of the slot. The grinding ceased immediately after I screwed the bolt pin back down. It would be interesting to know if you had the same problem too.
I’ll have to check it out
Have any updates on this beast? How does it cut?
It’s a beast and it cuts like one 🤣 it cuts good for a thick hard use knife. It’s not for fine slicing grapes 🍇 🤣
@@EDCTantoKnives yeah I mean like basic box cutting and the like?
@@BrandonGavin_EDC ya it will take care of basic cutting task very well, although it’s more suited for a little heavier task maybe than opening my Amazon packages 📦 🤣
@@EDCTantoKnives I figured that .19 blade stock lol. Not many cool tantos like that shape exist that aren’t customs. I dig the look.
@@BrandonGavin_EDC for sure, for the money it’s a good hard user
Just ordered the mini and full sized out of impulse. And tips on sharpening a tanto? Never sharpened one personally
Just sharpen each of the edges separately like they are different knives. That helps keep the secondary tip sharp
@@EDCTantoKnives thank you. That helps a lot. I use a ken onion belt sharpening system so I'll have to really practice with it 👍
@@davidliftsheavycircles the best thing would be buy a really cheap Tanto with crappy steel and practice with that first.
@@EDCTantoKnives just did. Great suggestion. I appreciate that brotha 👍
These are awesome. I have the Spear point knife, love it.
i own it and it rides well with all of my other non firing hand tools , my Ontario SP-3' , my gerbers , my cold steel tanto v-3' , my emerson CQC-7' , my recon -1' my AG-Russele boot knife glad that it's in my go bag
I can't believe this channel exists. Seemingly liking tanto style folding knives is more common than I though. Here I was thinking i was the only one. Definitely my favorite knife combo.
