Debbie Stanley promo video for ethics with NAPO SFBA 9 11 24
Please Mark Your Calendars for our September 11th Chapter meeting where we will be featuring the organizer who literally wrote the book on Ethics for Professional Organizers, Debbie Stanley, who will be discussing Ethics and Best Practices for POs and PCs. You may know Debbie from her Professional Practices courses on Ethics, Safety, and Cyber Security - three incredible courses full of helpful tips and information for all of us!
Do you remember how it felt when you first glimpsed the vastness of our ethical obligations as organizing and productivity professionals? It can be intimidating to realize just how vulnerable our clients often are and how much trust and hope they put in us, and these realizations can leave us longing for more detailed ethical guidance. With a clear understanding of our ethical duties and challenges, we can give the full measure of our services to clients without accidentally crossing boundaries. In this session, we'll review some of the most common ethical pitfalls in the organizing and productivity industry, learn the definition of a true ethical dilemma, and practice a decision-making model to work through ethical dilemmas in a reliable and, yes, organized way.
By the end of this session, attendees will:
- recognize some of the most common ethical pitfalls in the organizing and productivity industry
- know the definition of a true ethical dilemma
- understand how to use a decision-making model to work through ethical dilemmas
Come to the meeting prepared with ethical questions that you've been wanting to ask but didn't know where to find the answers! Because we are meeting in person, this session will NOT be recorded or available on zoom - and trust me, you will not want to miss this opportunity to hear from Debbie in the flesh (and perhaps have your book signed by the author herself). If this wasn't enough to get you to come in person, we will be serving dinner (salads from Sweet Greens, allergies/preferences will be taken into account) for attendees who register by Friday, September 6th* and we will be hosted by our Business Partner Cameron Eversole of AMS Bekins in San Francisco.
An optional tour of the AMS Bekins facility will begin at 4:15 pm Pacific and run for an hour. Please arrive by 4pm to park and meet inside to begin the tour on time. Dinner will be available between 515-530pm and will go until our meeting is called to order promptly at 630pm. Debbie will begin speaking by 7pm. Registration is required - walk-ins will not be permitted (thank you in advance for your understanding).
*if you RSVP after 9/6 you will not receive a salad. If you do not want a salad, please email us (see below email) to let us know so we can keep track and order only what is needed.

Let Me Organize It Reviews the Raven Scanner

PLEASE NOTE THIS VIDEO WAS SHOT IN EARLY 2020 Raven sent me the scanner to check out and if I liked it, to do a video. I reached out to Fujitsu and they didn't respond about my interest in comparing to their latest ScanSnap model (I have an old model and loved it). I'm sure the scanners are all updated now and the prices are all different. Please bare in mind this video is already several years...

That pile to your left-is that organized alpha alphabetically or by size?
Can you give me a time-stamp and I''ll help answer your question? I usually file alphabetically or by date. You could scan by size but it's not necessary. I'm just trying to figure out what you're specifically asking about but I created this video over 3 years ago and don't see any piles when I preview so if you can help me out I will help you out. Thanks.
Where do I buy the software for that scanner, and what is it called? ScanSnap?
If you've purchased the scanner, I believe there is a code for a free download of the software. Or you can download updated versions of the software from Fujitsu's website: www.fujitsu.com/us/products/computing/peripheral/scanners/soho/ssmanager/ If you can't find what you're looking for I'd contact their customer service. They have a chat right there on the website. Full disclosure: I have not used the ScanSnap (though I love it) since 2020. I've been using the Raven Scanner, so I'm not 100% sure what the current protocol is for obtaining the software (written 5/7/2023).
""Symmetrical Book Stacking just like Philadelphia mass turbulence of 1947""
I'm watching this video because I'm interested in purchasing one of these scanners, but I wanna bring up one thing: unless a cloud service has end-to-end encryption, it isn't really confidential. Never upload to raven cloud, google drive, dropbox, etc. unless you're comfortable with the idea of a raven/google/dropbox employee or hacker reading your documents.
Hi Lauren. Thank you for the great video. I also made a TH-cam video to show how I use my scanner (I also use a ScanSnap) to keep my documents organized. If you're interested, please take a look. I would love to know what you think. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/fJhZHGGKkyc/w-d-xo.html
Very light use
Have you tried canon?
No. Do they have a paper scanner? I thought they might just do photo scanners (I know a lot of Photo Organizers who use cannon scanners, but specifically for photos). I'd be happy to hear more if you'd like to share.
Excuse, what is the purpose of comparing a 6 yr old scanner to a new one! Wasted time . . .
So your return isn’t base on the machine being faulty; you just want a diffuser experience? Your video title should read different too
I'm not sure what you mean? Are you responding to another person's comment? I didn't return the machine - I kept it. I thought it was great. I know some people haven't enjoyed it. I did this video a few years ago - the technology and information may have changed but overall I have found it to be a good investment/product. I still use it weekly.
@@LMOI I’m very sorry; my comments was meant for another channel, that was reviewing the Raven Compact model prior to “You Tube” switching to your channel in auto play mode ( a negative side to the feature 😬. I also thank you for your overview of the product; I’m looking to purchase a unit for business usage.
@@markafletcher2042 Ok great - thanks for clearing this up. Hope you enjoy it!
If you plan on scanning to a computer, do NOT buy!! Have had issues with the scanner disconnecting from computer when ever computer goes to sleep or if I take a break and come back, scanner is disconnected and have to reinstall the drivers EVERY time!!. Been on the phone with tech support numerous times, they acknowledge this issue, been promised a Raven desktop update, never got it. Emailed them the last 2 times and been totally ignored. My 5 year old Epson All in One printer NEVER lost connection with my computer when scanning!! Also there is no "quit" or force quit option on Macbook for the app in which they are aware of. I have to go into "Activity Monitor" to quit the Desktop program. Ridiculous!!
Yikes - thanks for sharing this information. I scan directly to google drive and haven't had any issues. I've never tried to do it straight to the desktop. I scan to google drive and then download to my desktop if I need a copy there as well. I hope they can come up with a solution for you!
pls pls help me figure out how to save the documents on my macbook, I love the scan snap, i use it everyday at work so I know how awesome it is, but I just can't figure it out at home? thnx in advance
I don't have the updated ScanSnap to know exactly what to do, but I'm sure that there's a way to scan directly to your computer/save to a folder on your hard drive. I may be able to connect you to one of my tech experts if you email me: info(at)letmeorganizeit(dot)com
Raven Pro is $250 more expensive than newest Fujitsu Scansnap. Not a fir comparison at all. IX1500 & ix1600 should be compared to Raven Original scanner. Same price range
Fair -- but this video was shot several years ago (2020) and despite reaching out to Fujitsu and asking to compare with an updated model, they didn't respond and I was not able to shell out the money to test it out to compare to the Raven scanner which I was sent to test out after another one of my videos (on my older fujitsu scansnap ix500) got a lot of views.
What a fantastic review. Thanks
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you, excellent review, I'm buying this scanner payday!
Thanks so much! Hope you enjoy it.
You are presumably storing these on your computer or on the different sites you mentioned but I have a question about what if you are concerned about your private information being stored by on-line companies? I bought an external hard drive but I hear that they sometimes disappear memory after a time.
This is a great question. Ultimately, I know the risk of going fully paperless and so I use a 3-2-1 backup system. I back up to the cloud, to an external hard drive (mirror my hard drive) and also do a time machine backup (weekly). It's a lot of work but it's worth it to me to ensure I have my items. I also save important items in paper form, and won't store those on any of the sites/apps I've mentioned (they are stored in a locked file cabinet, and I advise my clients to do the same). While I've never had items disappear from an external hard drive, I have heard of this happening (and have certainly had computers crash on me; not much different from an external hard drive). I have about a half a dozen hard drives with duplicate information on many of them (different iterations of my laptops over the last 20 years). To me they take up hardly any space and are stored in my fire resistant locked file box. Ultimately, if you're going to use technology, you run the risk of things being hacked. If you are smart about it, you do your best to not reuse passwords, keep items backed up on the regular, and keep informed of any new technology. The paperless lifestyle is not for everyone, but living in 500 sq ft, it makes the most sense for me - especially when I help clients out for anywhere from 6 months to a year to get their own paperwork in order (sometimes up to 20 years worth). We save a lot we don't need in the long run out of fear. We file and never look at it again until we run out of room. To me, I'd rather have it in digital format. I've also accepted the fact that if it disappears, despite the measure I've taken, that I'll deal with it. Again, I think we hold onto a lot of items out of fear but often we don't need them. I thought I lost something very valuable to me once. I cried over it for days. I accepted it was gone and grieved the loss (it was something my mother left me when she passed away). I found it months later and while it is still special I realize that sometimes we just have to make do if something isn't readily available to us - including paperwork. I hope this helps!
is there any scanner that can automatically detects the category of my receipts and save them in that category folder. like utilities receipt will go to utilities folder, gas will go to gas folder , groceries will go to groceries folder like that.
I wish - nothing that I know of yet. I know that certain software like Quicken or Quickbooks can learn your transactions over time but even so it's not perfect.
Thanks for the Review and honest details. All the Best. Orlando, FL
You are so kind! Thank you for watching and commenting. I'm glad it was helpful.
what do you use for crumpled up paper that needs to "smoothed" out the scan - so scanner doesn't jam up? Excellent review! Appreciate your knowledge!
Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback! This is a great question. My Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 came with a clear, plastic sheet that opens on 2 sides, where I could place a piece of paper inside and send it through the scanner. I can use that with the Raven scanner but the Raven doesn't come with one. I'm unsure if a sheet protector (for a binder) would work but could try to find one and test it out. The Container Store has some good "project files" but I wonder if they'll be too thick? I can try to test it out. You can find them here: www.containerstore.com/s/project-files/d?q=sheet+protector&productId=10027124
Thanks Lauren, from Montreal Canada
Thanks, but actually no; they do charge for restocking fee of $25, even if you haven't broken the package. And at 16:50, whoever was at the help desk, said that won't be. If you have a citation, would you, please?
I know it's not best for photography or art, but I was hoping to not have TOO many devices. I think you said you rescanned the photography, so it probably implies you found a way to clean the dust off the scanner. What was the strategy? I don't think i would mind doing a quick clean before a set of images if it means essentially scanning an entire set 30x faster than a flatbed scanner. I plan to get the raven scanner pro.
Hi Caramel - yes you COULD use it to scan photos but you'd have to check the scan to make sure no dust got on the scanning part and if it does you'll need to open it and wipe it down. The only time I did this for a client, it became very time consuming (for 500 photos) and I had to wipe it down several times throughout the session. So I'd do a batch of 10-20, check each scan to make sure they were clear, then do another batch. I would open and wipe down the scanner part when needed but it was a handful of times. So it's do-able, but labor intensive and time consuming. Instead I send them to ScanCafe who digitizes for far less than most places and saves me tons of time! I hope that helps. Oh - and the Raven scanner I have doesn't do photos but I think they were looking to add this feature on newer models (if you have a newer model; mine is over a year old).
@@LMOI Thanks for the info! Alright, I was hoping it'd just be need a single cleaning before going through an entire batch process.
@@caramel7149 You could be that lucky. But it takes just one speck of dust to ruin the whole batch.
A cleaning crew accidentally knocked my Raven pro to the floor from the height of a 2 drawer file cabinet, Everything appeared physically intact but it only displayed the power indicator when I was able to apply power again. Raven support, via telephone, advised me that there was no repair available as the screen is an Android-based tablet-type display and that my only recourse was a new Raven. I concur with all your pros for the machine and really only find the aforememtioned con to be an issue. Just wanted to make your viewers aware of this.
That is incredibly disappointing. Does the cleaning company have insurance and you could file a claim? Obviously the scanners are not cheap. Or can you take out a claim on your insurance (might not be worth it though) -- just a thought. Thanks for letting me know.
Fantastic review. Thank you. I"m now a subscriber. Also, I'm especially intrigued about your transition from the ix500. Can you share your experience and any advice? I have resisted upgrading from High Sierra due to concerns about how I will migrate the data from Fujitsu's mac apps including Receipt Manager and CardMinder. Were you using those apps and does the Home software import that data? I haven't found anything anywhere that describes that migration process.
Hi Peter - thanks for your comment and for watching the video. I'll be fully transparent, since Fujitsu didn't answer my request to try out the iX1500 and compare to the Raven, I have not used the ix500 since getting the Raven. I'm exclusively using the Raven so I haven't had to deal with the software update. I heard from others that not having the full menu of services once they upgraded their system was a major setback. I did end up having to update my software last year but the Fujitsu has sadly sat in a box for probably at least a year and a half now. While I would still love to test out the ix1500 I cannot justify the price at this point. I hope that helps to answer your question?
Sorry this is a lengthy reply but I think you would like some proper feedback. I enjoyed your review & have subscribed for future editions but I have a few remarks as I too am torn between the Raven & Fujitsu: Constructive Criticisms on the Video 1. It would have been nice to see close ups of the scanner display & your computer display to view the process (and results) closer and not from one fixed filming angle. 2. Unlimited Cloud access is a great benefit BUT - can you transfer previously stored documents from, say Google Drive across to Raven Cloud once its all in the cloud (either through your PC or the Raven Touch screen?) You seemed to miss this feature as a Raven function. (This would also minimise what you have stored in Drive or any other paid for cloud storage). 3. You did not demonstrate how to send, say, Receipts to a SPECIFIC Stack or Notebook within Evernote perhaps using Tags or some other identifier. Personally, I do not want to scan in 20 different documents all to one Evernote Inbox & then have to manually sort them on my PC. Evernote can receive Tagged documents in this manner (as I do it from my phone) and send documents into their relevant Notebooks BUT CAN THE RAVEN send them to specific Notebooks in one scanning operation? 4. I think several profiles can be set up in the Raven for multiple users and scanned document destinations. You missed some major points here. Conclusions 1. I prefer the all black look of the iX500 - many are now going white which looks a bit "80's" and having worked with many systems when they looked like this, they tend to fade or go a "cream colour" with time black looks classier. 2. A rubber stamp is not a deal breaker (for the price) but the spare rollers is appreciated & unlimited cloud storage is a definite bonus. 3. Scanning without being connected to a PC makes the whole scanner a completely portable item to say scan all my parents documents at their home. 4. The Raven has a USB (thumb drive) connection. SO you could scan documents to a thumb drive and take that to load to another standalone PC which has no cloud access. (Some of our older generation may have a PC but aren't as "Cloud connected" as us). 5. Upgrading/recycling at a later date in a brilliant idea and must be the way forward for many companies. Paying the difference in price to upgrade is incentive at its best.
Hi Stephen, thanks for your feedback. I'm not a Raven employee, nor am I a scanning expert by any means. I only know what I know about the scanner with how I use it. I didn't receive talking points from the company, and in fact, just was trying to test it out against my older Fujitsu scanner. I was also trying to keep the video as short as possible, even though it turned out to be pretty long. I agree that I like the black look of the older scanner and I hope they come out with that on the next model of the Raven and the Fujitsu Scansnap. It sounds like you are super knowledgable about scanners! Thank you for posting all of this great information here for other people to read (I know it must've taken a while to gather and then write them down, so I do appreciate your time).
What a great review! This review is good for business and personal use. Great job

Will you do a video on how you organized your cloud or share drive, please.
That is an excellent request. I can share my personal drive but I can't share my business drive entirely due to confidentiality with my clients. You mentioned that this does not do photos. Does the Pro version do good at this. Also you mentioned about help with saving docs to cloud. For example how can one save docs scanned to their iCloud Drive. I wish raven had that built in.
I don't believe any of these scanners are going to be good for photos. Photos are best on a flatbed scanner. So while the scanners can technically scan photos - it's not ideal. I one spent 3 hours scanning a client's photos with the ScanSnap and there was a piece of dust on the scanner I didn't notice. I had to redo all of it. It's still time consuming as you have to delete the back of the photo or rename it and the photo with matching names. I honestly feel like it's best to hire a professional photo organizer through APPO or use a service like ScanCafe. I've paid to have ScanCafe digitize all my printed photos and home movies. As for the iCloud - from what I understand the iCloud is essentially a mirror to your phone. You delete a photo from your phone, it's gone from your iCloud. You should talk to the people at Apple. I only have my digital images stored on external hard drives and not loaded to the cloud because it would take up so much space (photos are big files). I could do this in Google Drive, Dropbox or even Amazon's storage offering (not sure what it's called), but I'd likely have to upgrade to more storage space. So I have them stored on external hard drives - a few of them. That's what works for me. But I recommend finding a local APPO photo organizer and asking them as they'll be up to date on the latest technology and best practices. I hope that helps.
Is this the normal carry on or the bigger carry on?
This is the larger carry-on (standard in the US). There is a smaller one that is standard for Europe/Asia. This also has the front pocket which is extra. You can get the suitcase without.
One other question any problems taking on US flights with that pocket? Thanks
@@connielahman5725 Not one issue. I put my laptop in the pocket and usually my boarding pass. It would only be an issue if you overstuffed it and it didn't fit in the overhead bin, but it's hard to overstuff.
That is exactly what I needed to know.I really wanted the bigger one but was afraid that pocket could be an issue and so very happy to know it will work on U S airlines. Thanks so much for the reply.Does that hair dryer have pretty good power?
@@connielahman5725 Yes - the hairdryer is quite powerful for its size. A friend of mine (who turned me on to it) uses it daily as her regular hair dryer.
PS: TOTAL AMAZON COST OF THE RAVEN SCANNER W/2 ACCESSORIES: $474.55 US DOLLARS. NOT A BAD DEAL BUT YOU NEED TO WAIT FOR SALES OR LOWER SALES PRICES. IT'S A WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT IF YOU NEED TO DO A FILING PROJECT AT HOME OR TO STORE HARDCOPIES ONLINE OR ON THE CLOUD. IT'S ALSO GREAT FOR ARCHIVAL PAPERWORK & YOU WISH TO GO PAPERLESS, ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF SAVING HARDCOPIES IN A FILE CABINET JUST FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. REMEMBER TO STORE INFORMATION IN VARIOUS LABELED ONLINE FOLDERS.
Thanks for the tip!
Great review - are you also planning an 'apples to apples' review w/ the Raven Pro & ix1500 anytime soon? Do you have any updated info on when the photograph 'upgrade' will occur & if its available to existing Raven owners via download? Lastly, I was unbelievably impressed w/ the "upgrade policy" you discussed. I was ready to buy after hearing that but first contacted Raven to confirm their policy. Sadly, they only offer the upgrade within the 1st 30 days from purchase & charge $25 shipping + the price difference in the models - not any upgrades "in a few years" as you mentioned in the video. Wish they did !
Thank you for this updated information! I really appreciate it. I'd love to do an apples to apples review of the two scanners. I just invested in the one so I can't afford the other one right now. Fujitsu is not offering to send me one to try out. Raven did and I decided to buy it after using it. No update on the photograph upgrade. Do you want me to reach out directly to the owners?
Very informative Lauren, thank you!
You're so welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great review of both scanners. Very helpful to help decide which is right for me.
Thank you!
Thank you!
I would have preferred a comparison between the new ScanSnap and the Raven. This comparison is a bit off kilter.
Believe me - I would've too! The Fujistsu people didn't respond to my several requests to test out their newest model and I do not have enough money to buy two scanners at $600 and $650 each (especially since Fujitsu doesn't have as good of a return policy as Raven). If I can get my hands on an ix1500 I will do another video - I'm sure someone else has a video up and you can compare. I didn't show at all how the Fujitsu worked for exactly this reason - just how it looked.
Great review! Where would you say and Epson Fotofast 680w fits in the comparison? I just learned about Raven and started to compare; looking to go paperless.
Oh boy. I didn't realize how pricey these scanners run. My mom has been wanting one.
Yes - they are an investment. I have had mine for 6 years and it still works great. Unfortunately, a lot of technology costs a lot upfront. I haven't attempted to buy a new one yet but if Fujitsu is anything like HP they may give me a discount on a new scanner for sending my old scanner back which they can use for parts (I'll report back on this). I've been testing out a new scanner by Raven Scanner and it's as expensive as the Fujitsu but I think it's also really great technology that will last many years. It might also be worthwhile to see if they have a Black Friday deal?
This is the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 scanner from circa 2014. There are newer models. I'm also very impressed with the Raven Scanner and plan to do a video on this scanner soon. Stay tuned.

Can you please share how to organise emails? Thank you
I'd be happy to share with you some tips and tricks for email organization. What specifically are you having issues with? You can feel free to contact me through the contact page on my website: www.letmeorganizeit.com
I have the same i500 and love it! What software are you using on your Mac? I have the ScanSnap Home software for Mac but can't figure out how to edit/merge/rearrange files. Yours looks a little different than mine.
Hi Jenna - I'm using OS X El Capitan version 10.11.16 and refuse to upgrade because I heard that once I do, I will not be able to use the software in the same way that I'm used to. I connect directly to my computer (despite having wireless capabilities) and then scan the document and select to save it to my desktop where I can edit the file (delete unnecessary pages; rotate pages; rearrange pages) in preview, and then move it where I want it. I even bring my laptop and scanner to clients' homes to do the scanning. Another scanning company is sending me a scanner to test out in the coming weeks. They said it compares to the iX500 so I'll check it out and report back (maybe with a new video). If you have more questions you can feel free to reach me through my contact page on my website: www.letmeorganizeit.com Thanks for watching!
50 pages in 30 seconds? Are you sure?
I recall getting this statistic from the ScanSnap website. But, no, I am not 100% sure. I would love to test it out though. I do a lot of scanning for clients and it does go very quickly. Next time I have 50 pages I'll time it and report back.
Thank you, very informative.
My pleasure - glad you found the information helpful!
I like your woo woo, Ms. mangmang!
Can I give it a bunch of irregular shaped documents all in one go? or Do I have to adjust the feeder and scan it one by one if its not the standard paper size? I'll be using it for mix of A4, A5 and letter sized documents that I will have to scan in order and don't have the man power to have someone feeding it document by document.. I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks
Yes, you should be able to put papers of all sorts of shapes and sizes (and just make sure there are no staples). Monitor the papers but the scanner is very good and should be able to separate them. I have seen some jams occur but the scanner knows and stops on it's own. It's really the best scanner around. Very intelligent and has way less errors than other scanners. I put in the regular 8 1/2 x 11 paper (US standard) and then donation receipts, regular receipts, and it takes them all no problem in the tray (meaning I don't have to scan from the bed one page at a time).
@@LMOI Awesome!! thank you very much for your reply
@@euyoooo My pleasure!
Did you upgrade to the new software?
I have not - is it necessary? Do you like it? Let us know what you think.
Let Me Organize It, LLC When i upgraded my iMac software, I was left unable to to use my scanner until I upgraded the software. I haven’t figured out how to scan to Evernote w the new software. Def wld not recommend it if you’re not forced to do it.
@@barkley3254 Oh no! Thank you for sharing this publicly as it may affect other people. I have not been forced to do it as of now. I am still able to do use the scanner but I typically scan to my desktop and then save to my hard drive and external hard drives (mirror to my hard drive and then a time machine). I have not tried to scan to Evernote. I am a big Evernote fan and use it all the time - daily - but I also heard they may be going out of business? Or selling? I am waiting to hear what will happen to everything I have saved on there (fingers crossed). Maybe that's one of the reasons it's not working with the scanner? Have you tried to reach out to Fujitsu or ScanSnap? They might be able to help. Keep me posted!
I have the same scanner -- love it.
Isn't it the best?! Totally worth the investment. It's the one tech gadget I have not had to replace/update/upgrade in the last 5 years. Impressive!
