These are really good questions and they're things I consciously think about when doing master studies like this one. I think for a semi beginner, what we want to look at are not just the line qualities and detail, but the overall shapes, forms and composition. A good way of studying could be drawing your reference but flipped into a mirror image, so if the character is facing left, draw them facing right. This is challenging, but very rewarding. Then on the side, acquiring some anatomy and perspective knowledge will help, so you can use the references, but change them a bit to suit your vision. Perspective is particularly important, because what you see front on, changes significantly when it rotates just a little bit, so we must understand form in 3D. Try looking up anatomy books, but ones that talk about boxes and perspective! Hope that helps!

I'm so glad you brought it up. This is called 'master study', it's a great way for artists to adopt new approaches and learn a different way to convey visual ideas. Tatsu is indeed a master in perspective and anatomy, I learnt so much from studying his pieces, especially on contour lines, shapes and design. I am at a training stage of my art pursues, but hope to share some of my original work in the future here 😊

@@--...nothing If there's any trick to it, I haven't figured it out yet 😂 For me, it's about enjoying your drawing. Some pieces that take a long time don't get the response I thought it would and some that was easy blows up. And I still don't quite know why, but the key for me is just keep drawing
