It took a little over two years from the time the order was placed until the body arrived. The delays were due to Covid for one, which disrupted the supply chain of resins from China. This has affected every fiberglass body manufacturer. On top of that, they have to compete with commercial wind turbine blade manufacturers who may have supply chain priority due to political agendas. Anyway, it's...

Are you considering building a street rod? This series focuses on the build of a 41 Willys coupe modified to fit on a Chevy S10 Chassis. This particular episode cover the details of welding the motor mounts, which must be relocated back about 8"-9".
41 Willys Coupe on S10 Chassis - Part 1 - Chassis Modification Overview
มุมมอง 16Kปีที่แล้ว
This series follows the build of a 41 Willys Coupe altered to fit on a Chevy S10 Chassis. The manufacturer is Scottrods Customs in Monroeville, OH. www.scottrodscustoms.com. This episode is basically an intro to the overall project. The video producer, Grampa's Street Rods, is an independent custom car builder, and is not affiliated with Scottrods, nor compensated for production of this video.
The S10 rides rough unless you have a few hundred pounds payload. That's why I went with the 4-link triangulated rear suspension. It allows me to tune the suspension. I still have the stock S10 coils on the front. I suspect I'm going to have to change them out. My 350 SBC engine is heavier, but back farther. Plus the body is significantly lighter. Once I get it road-worthy, I'll have to assess what I need to do. Thanks for your comment. Yes, I like the 33 too.
I just looked at the same body awhile back i know of 2 in new Orleans louisiana one on a s10 chassis the other came as a complete roller the complete roller i stopped to help the guy he was pulled over on the sholder of the road he ran out of gas. He said his complete roller cost him 17k and there was different versions he bought the gasser version he said it drove like a cender block he said he should have got there pro street or pro touring version. Id love to find a 33 willys body to go. On. A S10 chassia. That my favorite coupe
Great progress!
I have a 1937 willys 4 door that has a '41 front end with it that Ill be starting working on soon.
That sounds like fun. Post your progress.
@@jclements007 really interested to see a video on your engine choice.
@@koljag5 Search "41 Willys on S10 Chassis Part 5: Engines" Basically I selected the Chevy 350 because there are so many out there and it's heavily supported by the aftermarket industry. Ford puts out some good engines too. Mopar - let's just say I have several years experience as a Tier3 parts manufacturer. I have provided parts to the Big 3 per their specifications. Stick with GM or Ford.
I wouldn’t mind building a Willys as a sleeper for daily use. Just stick the body on a truck frame and running gear. Keep the engine about two litres and you’ll be good to go.
Most stock S10s have a 4.6L V6, which actually has enough power to lay rubber. You will have to build custom brackets for the accessories to fit. SInce the S10 has been out of production for about 20 years, you'll have a hard time finding one that doesn't need the engine, tranny, and rear differential rebuilt.
I'm posting here because comments are not allowed in the following video. Well I just can't help but wonder why you use both SAE and metric fasteners in your 4-bar rear suspension. It's not good practice to mix them and makes for headaches in the future if wrenching later becomes necessary.... ....RooDog....
How is the project coming? Looking forward to more videos! The '41 is on my bucket list. I built a 1979 International Scout for my wife and am in the finishing stages of building a 1963 Ford Galaxie for my Dad. When that is done, I will start on my Willys! I'm about 8 months to 1 year from beginning. The hardest thing for me to decide now is what transmission. I have a v8 S10 with the 700R4 now, but I think I want a manual.
I thought long and hard on the transmission issue. I went with the 700R4 because I would like my wife and kids and even a few friends to drive it once in a while. Most people aren't very good with a clutch. I have the body on, so I'll have another couple of videos out soon.
Chevies suck, Mopars are the pits. If you ain't got a Willy's, you ain't got Shit!
I looked hard salad original fiberglass trans body from the mid-60s yes indeed it has to drop Pharrell
Something no one mentions fiberglass bodies are not all created equally very few companies put the original drip rails on them dead giveaway if the drip coil does not exist
Yes, this one does not have the drip rail. The way I envision it working is as an add-on after molding the main body.
I have been selling off parts on Craigslist and eBay. No takers for the instrument cluster.
Now Junk yards won't even take scrap metal without a receipt, after buying their pat.....mine didn't anyway and ended up cutting it up...
I look forward to other videos on your project. This one is well-done and informative. Really this is a nice segue for those who might want to hot rod an s-10, it can be re-bodied with a cool Willys body and have parts availability wherever you might go. I share your affinity and enthusiasm for a '41 Willys. This is a great way to have one.
I built a 66 Belvedere and traded it for my 41, it is a ZL1 (aluminum 427) fuel injected, tube chassis with all corvette suspension. I enjoyed video will look forward to your build
Putting a vette suspension is a good move. Am I correct to assume you included the Vette independent rear suspension? That should have a great ride.
@@jclements007 Rides / Drives like a corvette Great Hot Rod
Cost can vary, but it can be done for under $30k if you're careful. Biggest costs are in the body, paint, and engine.
Great site, looking forward for more! Wanted a 41 Willys in high school but ofcourse out of my price range back then, with the s10 frame and fiberglass body it looks do able now.
The S10 does cut out the cost of the Chassis which can save about $10k. Keep watching. I'm going to be showing a lot of cost saving strategies as I build this thing.
@@jclements007 Yes, I imagine the S10 frame would be a huge savings over a specialty built frame, look forward to the rest of your vid's.
A lot depends on what choices you make along the way. Plan to spend between $30-$50K, and you get a pretty sweet ride out of it. Yes, that is a large spread, but there are so many choices to make. Paint is actually one of your biggest expenses, but that's also one of the biggest cost centers in production automobiles.
Can’t wait for pt5👏👏👏
Part 5 is out. Part 6 is out. Part 7 will be out in July or August. I'm chomping at the bit for Scott to finish the body.
I have a1947hudson5window2drwith a1950hudson motor how much worh to put s10flame under it
The tricky part to using an S10 chassis under vintage bodies is that it isn't flat. You have to take a lot of measurements at key locations, build brackets, cut body away in a few places, relocate the rear diff to match the body's wheelbase. and relocate the motor mounts. The Willy's body I'm using is already modified to fit the S10 Chassis. Does your Hudson have a flat chassis front-to-rear? If so, I recommend welding up your own box frame with universal engine & tranny cross-members, a Mustang II front suspension, and a triangulated 4-link rear suspension.
enjoyed video. my teacher used to say a word to the wise.
