We never sing that version in Helston. T'isn't traditional at all. It was added as the result of a mistake by Mike Waterson in about 1954. Plus in the Helston song tow rhymes with cow not toe. Points for effort, but plenty deducted for inauthenticity

I'm an American who has been watching morris dance videos for a couple months. In my opinion, Beltane Border Morris Dancers are the BEST. I love their energy, dance skills and costumes. I'm so glad there are people keeping this dance form evolving and alive.

I know that there’s a lot of skill in performing the traditional Morris dance, knowing when to wave your hanky and rattle your bells, but I’m afraid they always make me think of Monty Python, or maybe it’s just a synchronized cry for help. But the Beltane crew are the real stuff, dark as ravens and wild as our pagan past. Brilliant stuff!

I've always been a fan of the Morris, but this Morris side is something else! Really love the "bigness" of these guys' movements in their performances. Also the edginess and the air of danger about them. Absolutely superb. I prefer the make up around the eyes as opposed to the earlier iteration of the full-face black (which I imagine probably sparked a few complaints - "black-face" and all that garbage) I just think the mask effect looks much better; more effective, and in keeping with the costumes, which are amazing!

We’re fortunate enough to see Beltane Morris quite frequently, both locally and at festivals we play at. Their energetic performances are always impressive.

Oh could we but have something as beautiful as this in our US Revels. Ours are wonderful, but these folk are spectacular. Here's to all the old customs-just don't burn the covens.
