like any sub they need to be in the right environment on the right power to get the most out of them, either way the Hydro series is hands down the best value shallow mount on the market, there is only two shallow mounts for me right now, Hydro on a budget, JL TW series if I have no budget

really depends on what you prefer I don't know that there is a best practice, in my case i want the lug presentable from the viewable side,

We do a very reasonably priced custom builds starting with 23/32 radiata pine, it’s flawless 98% of the time, no voids, no delimitation, cuts perfect every time, route’s really nice, stains really nice (better when it’s piping with grain) the ‘front baffle’ on this box is an AC cabinet pine however, I had been testing out another similar product that almost always had a great looking finish (mostly for stained jobs) can’t say I was completely happy with how it routed and just felt that the radiata was a lot better, it’s a little harder IMO so we are moving through it as first or second baffles where I have pieces that are the right size. The radiata pine has some advantages over the AC (radiata is imported unfortunately vs the AC as well, I love to buy American made but the south East Asian product has to many advantages) AC tends to creep (bend) sometimes a lot, this makes super accurate cutting really tricky and also makes assembly really tricky having to bend it back straight with clamps as you set pieces, this is the main reason why we will continue to build radiata as the primary build material. I can build whatever the customer requests however this has been the most popular due to how cost friendly it is, design and cut/assemble accuracy is key not the material you use!

FYI you will notice that we used the ugly side as the exterior side in this build, reason why is that radiata has two sides front factory, one finished in 220 the other in 150 (we 220/400/1000 all interiors either way to ensure great sun efficiency) for duratex finish boxes ugly side (or the 150 side) goes outwards, this eliminates a sanding step for the interior, saves us time and money on paper, this is also why stained boxes cost more, a lot more time to prep and different steps required during the assemble steps, I’ll drop another video of this box finished 😁👌

yes box was installed about a week ago, I wasnt able to do an install video i been super pushed for time trying to close the year out with what orders we had open, this truck is getting wired up this weekend, ill see it back here in the shop to tune gains fairly shortly!

at the end of the day i strongly advocate for spending what your comfortable with, is there a difference between the two absolutely there is no denying that, if your going to put the money into the TW JL's your also going to put the money into the nicer amp. IMO your getting a better deal with the CT vs the Sundown shallows and I like a lot of sundown gear dont get me wrong! if you go the CT route and dont have a coupon use code BADLAB at checkout for a sweet discount!

If your subs are dual 2ohm then strapping another at2300 is a great option, if your subs are dual 4ohm a single amp solution will be the better option so you can run at 1ohm final load. The at2300s do not like 0.5 so don’t bother with it you will end up with headaches,

Is been tested several times in the past, while you are correct, there is a difference in sound between the materials, however it can only be detected and measured by tools, it is not detectable by the human ear
