Look for Trains
New Zealand
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 พ.ย. 2019
Just a trainspotter down in Christchurch watching some trains from time to time.
A day in one of the busiest sections of track in New Zealand
I finally got around to uploading something. All these were taken back in January 2024, just after the break season. That's why there are a lot of trains carrying yacht fuel.
This was done with Gound Light Productions as he was with me during this day out.

Rm 31 Visits Ferrymead
มุมมอง 1.3K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
15th of March Strandand Railcar Rm 31 "Tokomaru" visited the SouthIsland for the first time in NZR history. Spending just over a week touring the SouthIsland from top to bottom, it made an overnight stay at Ferrymead. To mark the occasion, on the 16th a special photography event was held at Ferrymead to have Rm31 next to some Vulcan Railcars. Again for the first time in recorded history meeting...
Centennial Of the Midland Railway
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
On the 5th of August, the Canterbury Railway Society ran a photographer's event to celebrate the centennial of the Otira Tunnel on the 4th of August, 1923. The day started with a lineup of all the electric locomotives, some shunting, and Rm 51 running around. The day continued with vintage goods trains and passenger trains hauled by F 13 and Di 1102. By the afternoon, they were swapped out for ...
The Hokitika Shunt and the Tranzalpine
มุมมอง 5Kปีที่แล้ว
Back in April I spent a night in Hokitika and decided to chase the Hokitika shunt. It's a small once a day shunt. Despite the line only being 40km the shunt can sometimes over an hour to reach Greymouth. Sections of the line are very bumpy and you can see the wagons bounce around. On the way back I followed the Tranzalpine to see the new kitchen carriage. Also learned that it is hard to chase a...
The Alpine Ranger
มุมมอง 307ปีที่แล้ว
On the 23rd of April 2023, Steam Inc ran an excursion to Arthur's Pass from Christchurch. They called it the Alpine Ranger. The day started out foggy but once it got above it all it was a beautiful sunny day, and a great day for train chasing. Yes I know it's like 2 months since it actually happened, but trust me, I still have stuff from 2021 to upload. Steam Inc: www.steaminc.org.nz/ Follow my...
The Canterbury Cruiser
มุมมอง 308ปีที่แล้ว
On the 22nd of April 2023, Steam Inc ran a shuttle train from Christchurch to Rangiora and return. They ran 3 trains and hauled 550 passengers. It's a lot hard to chase trains between Chch and Rangi as there is not a lot of time to catch up to it. I even messed up the times and missed the second train leaving chch. I then ended the day by accidentally deleting all my photos (I got them back). H...
Christmas at Glenbrook Vintage Railway
มุมมอง 285ปีที่แล้ว
Totally not a month late video but here it is! While in Auckland I had to go see the Christmas lights at Glenbrook Vintage Railway. Only slightly disappointed that the train didn't go all the way down the line but it was still neat to see. DBR 1295 and WW 644 lead the train which was also nice to see as they are not used on other GVR trains very often. Hope you enjoy it! There is a lot more to ...
Train Movements in the Deep South
มุมมอง 5702 ปีที่แล้ว
Taken in July of 2022, went for a small trip down to Invercargill. Was planning to follow the NightCaps Coal train but it wasn't running that week. It's mostly DSG country, but a couple of freight trains during the morning and night. Lots of old sidings and railway history. Enjoy!
DC 4876 Heading to its new home
มุมมอง 2.5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
On the 17th of August DC 4876, which has been sitting in Dunedin yard since its being withdrawn in 2017, was moved to Christchurch on train 920D. On the 31st of August, it was finally moved to Ferrymead to its new home at the National Railway Museum of New Zealand. DC 4876 started life as DA 1516 in 1967. It was the last of 85 DA's to be converted into a DC by Clyde engineering in South Austral...
End of an Era: Auckland's DMUs Reach the end of the Line.
มุมมอง 2.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Auckland's last DMU service on the network happened on the 13th of August 2022 at 1am, ending the 30 years of service. They entered service in Auckland in 1993 after serving 10 years in Perth. 19 units were bought, 10 ADL/ADC units and 9 ADK/ADB units. These DMUs are really what saved Auckland's commuter train network. All footage is provided by my father, (Ground light Productions) as I was a ...

Now that we have a new locomotive to replace the current ones, where on earth are the DXs heading to next? It bettter not be the scrapyard, theres 49 of them, and it could be good use for a railway overseas in dire need of locomotives.
Or the North Island again🎉
Reason: tired of seeing DLs all the time 😒
@@countryballsinvasion same, they are getting far too boring and have the most annoying horn ever
@@Kiwitrailchannel tbh, how is it annoying?
@ChimmyAnimate their horn sounds very squeaky and the high-pitch sound gives me an absolute headache.
Another beautiful steam locomotive that is in New Zealand.
Are they at the Middleton Yards today?
@@bigbear198608 Yes
This is so cool! Can’t wait to see them running!
Fuck the 2000s and early 2010s to mid 2015 era... it was shit for me.. specially at school or the girl who didn't love me.
Where's North Waitako?
North of Hamilton
Fantastic scenes mate!!
wow is that a scone movotive 320D
I always wondered what powered yachts....😉
I hear a few flats in this train
Very nice also congrats on 300 🎉
That dual camera set up seems to work pretty good for you. Nicely put together too
Great Video, I have had the privilege of riding RM31 in Pahiatua, it is my favourite railcar, thanks for sharing
Loved the grandeur only the westcoast can offer. Great to see the turntable in action @ "11:15", up in the Waikato we see more of the chinese double cabbed locomotives 🚂 used in intermodal consists. The only single cabbed locotives used are Te Huia ( Auckland - Hamilton vice versa 7077 / 7295 & 7335. The exceptions would be Auckland to Wellington commuter trains and switching at Frankton yard near where I both live & work. Most of my railfanning on YT is in America 🇺🇸 the heart of railfanning ❤😊
Nice capture. Interesting the 2 different designs from a similar period, one English built with motive power inside the car body (ala Silver Fern, complete with triple axle bogie) and one home grown, with under floor power (ala Fiat 88 seater). Living in Wellington I have seen the "standard" class railcars and the FIAT's often at Wellington Station in my youth, always admired their lines. Perhaps one or both of the Vulcans can make the trip north while it's still possible to take railed vehicles across the strait
Was that Mainline steam that used to be in the back of Parnel Auckland in the 90s ?
Same person, different location, Mainline steam had 3 depots, Parnel, Plimmerton and Chch. Plimmerton is now the only functional Mainline steam depot
Why is it called “foamer island”? 🤔
Because it’s the place everyone who gets photos of trains at Ferrymead goes to
@@LookForTrains that is in a matter a fact correct
6:34 Me Blowing 1102's horn lol
Great video man cant wait for more
DXQ? you mean DXC 5229, what happened jumped a switch point?
Great Video, an observation on the Hokitika shunt, under the terms of the DIRA Fonterra was required to deliver a quantum of whole milk to it's competitors (including westland milk) to mitigate it's potential monopoly position the stainless tanks on the shunt are the wagons that transport canterbury milk to the west coast to be processed in a chinese owned factory, I was astonished at the size of the transalpine it seems a much bigger train that the coastal or the northern explorer, thanks for sharing
westland milk have a few suppliers of their own in canterbury as well as the parent company also owing Oceania Dairy in Sth Canterbury where they also get milk from
What’s happening with the Ganz?
Great video, looks like a great day had by all.
Nice and Sweeeeet
It's a shame how most of CRS sizable heritage collection is almost never on public display.
Nice man and of course you can see me in some clips
Good video footage
Will they still run
Only the future will tell
Great Video, Interesting there seems to be a number of empty wagons on many of these trains, thanks for sharing
Great Video, thanks for sharing
Great Video, I really enjoyed it, thanks for sharing
Muito bom este vídeo
6:02 do i see a microwave here or am i going crazy, lol
You're not going crazy. It is a microwave oven. Old ones are quite often used as letterboxes (mailboxes) in rural areas.
I sadly suspect we arent going to see MLS excursions again anywhere for some time - two new depots to build (Auckland and Christchurch) and most of the locos in storage, which will take a lot to reactivate. No idea how they are going to fund things, particularly without excursion income.... :(
Nice video!
Here comes DC4513 and DXC5258 with the Freight Shunt from Hokitika to Christchurch Via Greymouth.
Very good video! Keep up the great work.
...at 14:45....
214:45 my mate calls out to me....the dude in the Yellow + Blue HiVis @ 14:51 to 15:06.
And there goes the Railtour
@ 05:42...looks oddly like a mate of mine....
Saw it too mate meet the train spotter from tuarunga as I saw it come through rolleston in the morning at the station
Good work! You got some great shots.
Very good!
Nice video!
Its G25 not G35. G35 ran last Sunday with DXC 5195 & DXC 5460.
This was from the 22
And there goes the Railtour
cool wish i could have gone on it but saw the alpine ranger come through rolleston in the morning and evening
Should be put to work in Christchurch
i know its sad for them to go but i guess its just better to electrify the line for the enviroment, and it will be faster for the electric trains to run through there, still miss the DMU's but i guess the EMU's will be better
