Man yall need to learn how to build houses like you do decks fucking ridiculous how much goofy shit goes into a deck getting built
It's crazy how often I come across a 30-50 year old decks that are attached to the building with a few 16s and that seems to be plenty. I've broken a couple hammers trying to pull one old 16. Today's codes are way over kill, in this aspect. If anyone has seen the Berkeley CA deck collapse it all stems from a cheap job meeting an unruly crowd... There should have been more support for that deck I completely agree, however they were way over capacity for the building and the deck, and for some reason it seemed like a good idea to rock the deck back and forth... I digress your job looks good, well done you should have no trouble passing inspection.
@@nicholasthibeault1729 This deck was done 12 years ago only had 16d in the ledger no flashing, no vapor barrier, no sheathing, unfortunately it rotted the load bearing wall framing, old strong lumber, and yes some of those nail did not come out they were stuck. The thing with houses now the the material and lumber is just about garbage, so this is the make up for garbage materials but applies to all home so there is no confusion.
@@handydandyhomes yeah most buildings in my area are 50+ years old almost always old growth red wood materials today even redwood is pretty much garbage, gotta do what you gotta do I'd warranty your work for 20-40 years depending on over hangs and local weather patterns. Totally agree personally I would go with 100% pressure treated framing that can give you a lot of longevity, but being wet wood can warp and do weird stuff as it dries. Hard to get it perfect now a days. Keep up the good work bro.
@@nicholasthibeault1729 Thank you. also shrinks, some remodels require pressure treated lumber for interior work if the house is in a flood zone you have to buy the lumber months in advance to dry it out or your sub floor could drop a 1/4" or more .

Question… hot mud for texture? 20 or 45 min. Yay or nay?
@@BurtonCustom08 yes and no, if you do a vary small area with 90 minute. the power tex gets warm right away and super cures the hot mud so the window is small and you must wash the power tex right away, otherwise you might not be able to clean it or want to spend the time to clean it . Small area I did was 6in x 18in the mud was drying right away and hard within 10mins And looks a little different because it set up so fast.
OMG… don’t press the trigger down all the way?! That’s where i failed? I can’t wait to give it another try. Thanks for the tips! I was about to abandon the powertex.
@@BurtonCustom08 yes, there are a few hurdles I had to over come Just crack open the trigger, also don't forget to thin out your wall texture (spackle/mud)
I think moving the switch by 3 inches would be easier destroying 2 studs 😂
Where into the fridge cubby wall that is 1in thick? Not sure where people get the idea it's destroying studs, it's literally code which is based on engineering standards 🤷♂️ And not "I think"
Not sure I consider that by hand. That's okay I'm just busting your balls.
Thats expensive
@@kydenj28 yes its is like all the products and materials I use, the best caulk cost big $$$ And all cedar trim (not FJ) with stainless steel fasteners on everything I do. Expensive but it's in the price of the estimate. High quality does cost more

I was feeling "when in doubt caulk it out "
Stickiest caulk known to man
100% I keep really clean with caulk but you can't get away from np-1. go home and bam np-1 on your elbow, how did that get there 🤔
That’s the best caulking made! Been using NP-1 on metal roofs for decades .
My #1 favorite, but you are not supposed to use it around oil based products. My 2nd favorite is GE paintable silicone it's vary similar far as tensile strength and joint movement capabilities, but np-1 wins both categories. Plus side to GE paintable silicone is water ready in 30 minutes and can be painted in 1 hours , np-1 is 24 hours.

Just a switch,do you need that much box cut outta those kings n trimmers
@@John-p4q3b yes, a regular gang box is almost twice this size, This is a smaller gang box barely enough room for a rocker switch with one 2-12 one 3-12
Congratulations you made two studs completely useless.
@@edward11762 🤣 how many people are going to comment and not know anything about IRC. Like 🤷♂️ just say you don't know residential building code. You can notch a load bearing wall stud 25% no limit.
As a framer I think I should tell you that those studs hold up the house and notching them is bad but notching a 4 stud pack is really bad because that is there to hold a beam or roof system bearing point and you have now destroyed it's structural integrity. But I'm glad you got that light switch in the correct location....
@@illinidave I installed the beam the two king and two trimmer (jack) studs. You are aware what the IRC is? International residential code. If so you are aware as a "framer" this meets code. You can notch a load bearing wall stud or studs 25% . 25% of 5-1/2" is ? 1-1/4", That grey box is 2in deep, it's just over half way in making a 3/4" stick out so that would leave a 1-1/4" Notch this is code compliant and there is no limit to how many load bearing studs you can notch. Even king stud and Jack studs. But you should know this being a framer.

@@yamen16 that doesn't make sense... you shouldn't do work if it's meets code? 🤔 This is not some new home build, this is 100 year old home which had many remodels, and improper framing there is no moving this switch and the other wall is a fridge. So this is 100% legit install and should be done.
All your videos say that you are in Portland

Do not ever do this to your structure, please 🙏
@@Capt_Cook do what?
@@Capt_Cook if you are talking about notching studs on a load bearing wall, you 100% should not comment and spread misleading information, This is code compliant Notching on a load bearing wall can be done at a maximum depth of 25% of the width of the stud, this being a 2x6 wall you can notch 1-1/4" deep. That grey gang box Is 2" deep, as you can see it's a little past half making the stick out 3/4", 2" - 3/4"= 1-1/4". Don't spread misinformation this code has been around for decades.

I have 1 of biggest hole saw kits you can buy but you can't beat this 1950s all in 1 (well kinda I'm missing the 2 smaller cutting blades) irwin micro dial no. 22
@@Sca-Global right? It took me a second I was like that’s GOTTA be a kludge but you don’t just see snail gears in the wild.
@@handydandyhomes very cool, I can see the other cutting blades. This was a trip thanks for sharing this. Got me thinking about all the older tools I’ve inherited over the years that I have NO clue how they work
@@ActualLiteralKyle same I went to a garage sale years ago, the guys was a life time mechanic, I bought so many things I still don't know what they are and can't find any info on some of them.
What's wrong with a hole saw?
@@Sca-Global i never used this style bit before and tried without a extension handle on my drill and low gear, to much force to hold, now I know.
@@handydandyhomes ahh now I get it I thought you made this yourself i was thinking just buy a hole saw instead of breaking your wrist haha any idea how old it is?
@@Sca-Global yeah this the irwin micro dial no. 22 1950's originally came with 3 blades, I got mine somewhere random with just 1 of the cutting blades.
I have this same bit...in a hand auger, because that's how it's meant to be used. This is beyond stupid.
If i use high gear, I can over power the drill. Low gear is to much to hold.
this bit probably wasn't for power drills lmao.
I dont like to use it with low speed high torque, not enough leverage without the extention handle.
It's not meant to run fast. Slow with high torque is what it's designed for. That's why there's a screw point.
I run it fast because I didn't want to add the extention handle to my drill and low speed is to dangerous even using my thigh to much torque to hold. So I use the fast speed so I can stop the drill, when it bits deep and stops the bit.
Nice work
