    Got mine about five years ago to start getting serious about my hobby of wildlife/bird photography and I love this camera. Paired with the Lumix 100-300 zoom, my photos improve with each trip and with more experience. I am starting to experiment with Infra Red and have yet to fully explore the Bulb settings and other long exposure settings. I’m learning every day and have even used the Olympus OMD E1 mark 2 to video myself for conference presentations. It’s a great little work horse that never disappoints.

    I traded in my Sony ZV-E10, Sigma 18-50 f/2.8, Sigma 30mm f/2.8, Sigma 60mm f/2.8, and the kit lens for the E-M1 mkii and mZD 12-40 f/2.8. To preface this, ALL of my Sony/Sigma gear were barely used and barely a year old with just a little over 2000 actuations. No scratches, dents, cracks, whatsoever. Price-wise, I traded down for sure. But personal value-wise, this is the best decision I've made since I started photography. The autofocus on this camera is highly underrated. I think it's just as fast as Sony's if you know how to use it. Its dynamic range and high ISO performance is also more than adequate, even by today's standards. And for those of us who shoot a lot of nature/outdoor photos, the way Olympus renders greens is an absolute masterclass in color science. And don't even get me started on the IBIS. Plus, with electronic shutter and weather-sealing, this camera can practically live forever. Only downside, to me, is that so many of its features are buried deep within its menu system. Sony, Canon, and Fuji's menu systems are far more user-friendly. But, hey, that's where Robin Wong and the Northrups' guides come in handy.

    As much as I think so highly of my EM1 MKII and EM5 MKII, I think at the moment the best value camera here in the UK, is the Nikon Z6 MKII. Shops have started to discount them now that the news of the Z6 MKIII has really taken off. I think Olympus did not conduct their marketing as intelligently and aggressively as the likes of Fuji, Sony or even Leica although this one is a different story. To me it seemed like for ever they were apologising for the camera being an MFT. This is nonsense, as I know what these cameras are capable of and I do own Nikon, Canon and Leica film and digital cameras. Here in the UK atleast, the characters who were the ' ambassadors ' were even older and more boring than myself, so Olympus did not really appeal to the young ' photographer '. Just have a look at the people who promote Fuji, Sony, Canon or even Nikon. Too late now, Olympus as a camera manufacturer are no more.

    agree! 9:31 Had my EM1MII for 6 years! Never, so far, had a problem. And the pro lenses are absolutely top class. Naturally, the autofocus is a little more accurate on fast-moving subjects in the most modern cameras. But much can be compensated there with photography technology. I was thinking of switching for that reason, but regretted it. Very happy with this camera. I am an amateur, but this camera is sufficient for any professional photographer. Thanks for your video feature!

    I have the latest generation, the mark 7, and it’s just mediocre at taking pictures given its ineffective image stabilization. And I was only taking pictures in auto mode, with stabilization on, outside during the day, of static and big subjects (buildings, trees, bridges, statues etc). It also has many other negatives. For 1300 euros, this is all the more disappointing and unacceptable

    It's not broken, just don't watch these kind of reviews or at least watch with the topic in mind. There are some TH-camrs, they actually BUY a new camera and tell you what is going on. Its to easy for the companies, look at Panasonic and their release of the Lumix S9, they invited TH-camrs to Japan, even some with only a few thousand subs, big show and they could take a S9 home. Of course this is tempting esp for a mall TH-camr. But again it is up to us viewers, we have the power, just stop watching them. Then the industry will change, as most TH-camrs will not change :)

  • @9Mtikcus
    @9Mtikcus 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Reviews are almost always biased to a degree... unless the person reviewing the gear has parted with their own cash... Giving the reviewer a camera to keep, will just create worse reviews than currently happen, as they will be inclined to give positive reviews to get more gear. On the flip side of your argument, most review channels would disappear in minutes if they stopped being given the loaner gear, if they demanded to be paid to review it, 1 they wouldn't get the gear, and 2 that is a massive conflict of interests, and no-one would take a review seriously if it starts with a disclaimer "I was paid by "Company name" to review this product" (this has to be disclosed) Most established reviewers seem to focus on the positives of products whilst mentioning the negatives, and reviewers are paid through links, TH-cam adds, subscriptions etc

    OMG!! TH-camrs making money and receiving hardware and trips? The inhumanity!!!! Now to do the same to the computer tech reviewers, or anything being reviewed that was provided by the manufacturer. Received a laptop for review? Cancel em! Look, the problem is in the terminology. Don’t call it a review if you haven’t independently acquired said product and haven’t worked/lived with it. If you’re receiving a piece of kit and returning it within weeks, you can NOT give a proper review. At most, it’s a preview. I think we all need to be better at protecting the meaning behind words. The word ‘review’ has been thrown around a bit too easily.

    haha. your solution is just to pay youtubers better for their work. the issue you described originally was that reviews are broken because they aren't reviews, they are marketing. the solution isn't to get better paid for said marketing, it is to make sure reviews are truly unbiased. so the point is that we need to prevent camera makers from blacklisting those that give negative reviews.

  • @gmaas1418
    @gmaas1418 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Goes further than that. Recently the Panasonic S9 was revealed. And the videos of multiple TH-camrs was shot in ... Japan. I guess Panasonic paid for that trip. Your idea is fine but paying for reviews won't work. Even in the time of magazines the writers knew not to bite the hand that fed them. It is a symbiotic relationship. You can't have a truly independent review AND get free & early access to the camera.

  • @JeffBourke

      It was free and yes, after updating my camera it was like I'd purchased a brand new one. Instead the firmware release for free built goodwill for many.

    I am looking forward to the day when TH-cam content is just 100% paid advertisements for any corporation products or services being marketed from unionized TH-cam channels. The issue is honesty and integrity, not the products. I rather watch someone give an honest opinion on a product then read a script from a brand marketing department. If this was implemented everyone would be a brand ambassador and the audience would leave TH-cam in droves. TH-cam was originally YOU, Not SonyTube, SamsungTube or LumixTube. Ask for too much money and corporations will just go to people who will do it for less or go to platforms that don't demand it.

  • @juanQuedo
    @juanQuedo 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I see the same problem by giving them the cameras. Lumix has done that with the s5II and s9 at least and that creates the same problem. For a small creator new gear could be a huge incentive to talk positively about a specific brand or camera and for big fishes they would want to be in the first page of everyone youtube's recommendation when the next camera comes around so none of them would be extra harsh if really needed. Brands and creators need each other almost at the same level and brands have more leverage. The only way of having "honest" (at the end of the day is the opinion of someone else) reviews would be if the creators would pay for that loan or the product. Or if as you suggest the brand pays you or gives you the stuff it shouldn't be called "review" but advert, with no personal opinions on that video. Just specs ante technical data. And a 5,6 months or a year later a review could be made with the personal opinion of the creator and even at that point I think the creators would hesitate to be hundred percent honest.

  • @jonbarnard7186
    @jonbarnard7186 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I agree, most "reviewers" are marketers at least to some extent. Even worse are the so-called Ambassadors. OMD is famous for this. When they release a new camera, only their ambassadors get a copy to review, so for months after release, you only see these glowing reviews. OMD isn't the only one though. What you're suggesting is that creators admit this and go full-in on hawking the products. Of course, then I will stop watching the stuff completely. I might as well just go to the manufacturer's website and read their advertising copy. What's the difference? Anyway, TH-cam is getting to be like cable TV. Something will come along to replace it, and we'll "cut the cord" again. It's just a matter of time before the golden goose is killed.

Give me a break, you are using a free platform and complain that other people should pay you for you to show their products on this free platform? Like I said, get out of your stuffy room, and get some fresh air. You are out of your minds!

    • @LukeTaylorPhotography
      @LukeTaylorPhotography 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The fact that TH-cam is free is a non-issue. Creating videos is not free. In some cases, it is very expensive depending on the type of content. The idea that creators should offer camera companies free marketing, after spending thousands of hours and thousands of dollars to build their channels is laughable. Its clear you aren't familiar with the economics of TH-cam (or business for that matter). You might want to avoid leaving your uninformed comments in the future.

  • @ddzang
    @ddzang 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Thanks for your opinion…..are you proposing legislation to stop that? Are you influenced by your instagram and TH-cam feeds like me? Well, here is a solution: take yourself outside of your home and breath in fresh air for 10 min and consider staying outdoors for the rest of the day. Camera market is a business and camera companies need to sell to 90% of amateurs to support the 10% of professional creators like you. If you want better and faster cameras in the future, better get on board with pushing these cameras any which way you can. You realize that it’s not easy to make these modern cameras these days. The technology is mind boggling. It takes a collective big effort. So, give the camera companies a break for their marketing campaigns.

    I appreciate the input! I do want to offer a counter to what you are saying. There is a downside to keeping product. Technically if a brand gives a product to a creator, they SHOULD be filing those as gifts on your taxes. I would rather do loaners in exchange for discount on gear I actually want. I do agree that paying needs to be a thing. But there will always be a smaller channel that will do it for free and so you’re just risking irreverence. It’s a tricky place. This seems to be all coming from the big lumix event that happened recently. I can say I was at that event and I was compensated VERY fairly. The hard part is that fairness varies from brand to brand. It’s hard to gauge

      Yes, those are fair points. As you said, It is a tricky situation for creators. Just to clarify, this video wasn't made to target the Lumix event. It was actually created about a week ago (which is why I didn't make any references or allusions to the Lumix launch). I published it last week but took it down to make some edits.

      "in exchange for discount on gear I actually want" Do reviewers often get discounts while also claiming that they don't benefit financially from the review? Not necessarily talking about you here, I don't know if you have claimed that.

      I can't speak for any other creators, but I have been offered discounted gear by manufacturers... And yes, this is a monetary benefit few creators disclose on their channels.

      @@SlidinDirty17 typically creators get offered a discount for the gear they are reviewing, but most of the time that is passed on cause we don’t want to pay for that piece of gear, even discounted. But some brands do offer media discounts on gear because you have partnered with them for showcasing their products. But often if that’s the case we are not getting directly paid for the review we are doing for that brand

    Ultimately it viewers love of gear related vids that’s the issue

    Totally agree! The new barrage of LUMIX S9 reviews (cough…cough) by the usual suspect creators is cringeworthy to say the least. It’s obvious marketing for Panasonic and quick views for the TH-camrs.

      @@Ansonandco Fair question. I watched a bunch of the videos and (for me) I found the school trip vibe of all the creators hanging out together, cringeworthy. If you don’t feel that, that’s fine. These are just my feelings, my opinion. Everyone will differ and I respect that.

      @@camerabaka as someone that was there, it did feel like a school trip. I literally have a picture of some of us on a train with a group of school kids hahaha Mostly we are all friends which is probably why it seems cringe. Much apologies for that hahaha I will say it’s a cool camera with a ton of in camera customization. I hated it at first and then I shot with it, and it’s just fun. I especially love the pancake on my sigma fp

      @@Ansonandco No apologies required. Maybe I just don’t like seeing people have such a good time. LOL 😂 the S9 is a bit of a head scratcher though. A camera is only as big as its lenses. I’d get bored of the 26mm f8 very quickly. I hope they bring out an mtf version.

      @@camerabaka so the kit lens that is coming out will be nice, but honestly right now I have a sigma 45mm f2.8 on it now and it’s still pretty dang small. Some of the slower I series lenses from sigma are real small. But yea I agree, a camera is only as small as its lenses. That is the battle I have had for years with the SIGMA is that it’s tiny, but all the good lenses are big
