there is 1 other game where the UI changes depending on the version: ultra sun/ultra moon (and maybe also sun/moon idk) the X menu in us is yellow, whereas the X menu in um is blue 👍

I like it when you stun a pokemon, instead of doing the idle bounce animation it remains still
It’s really the little things like this that add up and make a great game. I kind of want them to go back to a pixel art style but I know that’d be a lot of work 😮💨

So did Crystal. His point is this is the first time sprites are animated THROUGHOUT the battle and not just when pokemon show up. Makes the pokemon a lot more lively, especially when they switch up the camera during the battle
They had literally 2 frames of animation I think the difference is pretty clear

They’ve been in most of the games up to now. Overall I think the UI would look a bit cleaner without them. 🥲

Which game has your favorite battle UI?
That line is there to stylize the Data bubble and point toward the Pokémon it represents. Like the spike on a chat bubble in comics and lines of data in UI. Visually speaking, a younger and/or disabled player could confuse the two since one is right above your Pokémon and the other is right below the other.
That’s a valid point! That’s been my thought process for the previous games that just have standard boxes and a pointy shadow, but for these games the slanted boxes technically already point to the Pokémon. I see how it could be a little confusing for a new player but I think it would only take a couple fights to figure everything out. it’s a pretty negligible thing but I just think it would look a little neater without it
@@AdonisDeltaa Yeah, it's a hat on a hat, but you'd be surprised how...oblivious people are. Nowadays, people need blinking lights on an arrow sign, rather than just an arrow sign.
The kids are never gonna get that gamer instinct if we keep hand feeding them! 😂 Jokes aside, I get that a lot of us are familiar with the general layout of Pokémon by now but not everyone is. Kinda makes me wish they let us customize the UI a little more!

They could have remade gen 4 with the only change being that the sprites kept moving like they do in gen 5 and it would have been so peak
I’d love if they went back to pixel art but went crazy with it like octopath! They would have to do a lot of animation work though so I doubt they would. ☹️

I believe the arrow gray area is meant to be the same as the Red and Blue/Gold and Silver UI, where the experience bar is, and they wanted to keep it consistent. I had never considered that the arrow points to the Pokémon, but that makes a lot of sense.
Your theory also makes a lot of sense! The main thing that made me think it’s an indicator is double battles. I can see how a new player might get confused with 4 boxes on the screen and no real hints as to who they are for.
Rouge, Espio, and Vanilla are probably the undisputed top 3. Espio and Sonic are the worst because Zazz sniffed Espio out of his camo in the IDW comics and Sonic doesn't seem to have a house, which means he doesn't have a shower most days.
