I have never heard anyone praise Dylan as a musician. Because his singing, guitar, and harmonica skills are minimal. Some, strangely, enjoy his voice. He became a star at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 when Joan Baez donned him the next thing in folk. That turned commercial and the rest is history. Don’t be deceived that he wasn’t a cultural icon or dismiss he was the voice of an entire generation. Just because you don’t enjoy him as an artist, and I personally think most of his catalogue is unlistenable, he has directly or indirectly influenced pretty much every artist and songwriter after him.

You could, but you can claim both with the same Apple ID. It just means you manage that artist’s account. You could have multiples.

No, a distributor is the company that actually puts the music on the digital platforms for the artist. You, in this case, are whatever your “talent” and you agree upon.

Go to Apple Music for Artists and create an account. You can't do that from CD Baby. Once your music is on the platforms, you can claim your account through Apple Music for Artists.

Hey! Thanks for watching. It really depends on if you have the same artist name by chance, or if it’s some type of fraudulent thing where it’s your name and they’re trying to benefit from it.

You’re going to have to get in touch with those platforms, or if you know the distributor they used (like CD Baby) that way they will remove it from all platforms they distributed to. Do you by any chance know who did it? You could send them a Cease and Desist.

By the way, Everton is my uncle and I am trying to sort out this issue for him and could not get any information on how help. These persons have been making money from his music for years now. As it relates to the distributor we don't know the person or the body.

I’m sorry to hear that. Though, that person might own the rights to the music recordings. Either way, you need a lawyer who specializes in royalties. It might be expensive with no result. If the music is making more money than it will cost you to litigate, then it will be worth it. Good luck!

First, thank you for watching and interacting with the page. Congratulations on the song. You are on the right track. The split is based on whatever you decide, as are all contracts. Get it in writing whatever you agree on. It sounds like the producer already asked for an upfront fee. If this is true, then he cannot claim rights on the backend because he’s receiving a fee on the front end. If he wants songwriter rights, then I would not psy him up front. But it really just depends on what you agree upon. You are a client coming to him with the song, essentially hiring him as a producer, you can make the terms whatever you want, and he can agree to that or not. It’s your song, though. He is not the writer unless he is changing melody or lyrics. Hope this helps.

I am looking to do a few songs with him (where I send him a good demo created in Logic with basic beats/production by me and he takes it from there) for a fixed price and he asked for 50% up front and 50% after. He did not change melody or lyrics, just spiced up the production and "brought my blueprint/vision" to life :)

By front end I mean an upfront fee. Back end is royalties. Usually front end payment for services would replace back end royalties because most producers or session musicians don’t expect the artist’s music to make money. So, they take a fee and relinquish all royalties as songwriters, if the contribute. But in your case you are the writer hiring a session musician/producer and therefore you should retain the publishing royalties as the sole songwriter. Are you paying him 50% of fees up front and 50% fees after or do you mean he wants a fee upfront and 50% royalties later? Those are two very different things.

@@mattsteinfeld I see this is helpful. He wants 50% of an advance for production/mixing/ for 5 songs before and 50% after the 5 songs are finished AND 50% publishing and "Among other rights" - not sure what it means. Thank you for your help!! Really truly appreciate it.

So he wants both payment for services and then also royalties.... but I am a super new independent artist and he is a new producer.
