    I have 7 young red tailed boas that always come out of their hide when I call them or just enter the room. They stare at me through the glass until I either let them out or feed them.. So in my opinion, snakes must have some sort of hearing ability because they have NEVER failed to respond to me calling.

    My female is 3yrs and a few months old now she is around 10ft or over and she is now refusing food. How many times does she have to refuse to eat so I can introduce my male ? Also my male is only 8 months old is he ready ?

    • @gloriouspredators1361
      @gloriouspredators1361 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can introduce a male now. Ive had one male breed at 9 months. You can try to introduce him. If he starts arching like an inch worm, that wud be a good sign, but most males dont show interest till about 18 months. Males can be kind of weird. Just keep an eye on them if u decide to. My receptive females will usually open up their vent. Other breeders may say this is a female telling the male to get away, especially if her tail starts wagging. Altho if she starts pissing a lot I wud remove him. She may open her vent and start rubbing her tail on him, this means she is ready... hopefully he will be.

    Basically what I was thinking of doing, you just helped iron out some of my questions. I've considered going with heat tape since I will have 6+ stacked together. Would you suggest putting between the olly and polly, or under the plywood. Or in your opinion does ceramic heat bulbs work better for large snakes?

    • @gloriouspredators1361
      @gloriouspredators1361 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have radiant heat panels in a few of mine now just becuz they take up less space and a buddy sold them at a great deal, but otherwise I ise the ceramic. I tried some heat tape but it didnt seem to penetrate the wood enough to give a heat spot in the 88 to 90 degree range. The tape maxed out at about 79f. From what I understand, the heat tape will need to breath on one side so if u do go heat tape it maybe best to go along the back unless u can somehow get a bit of space as to not sandwhich the tape tightly. It cud overheat and melt from what Ive been told. Hope that helps and thank you very much.

    I'm a blood python keeper and (newbie) burm guy - I loved your 8 ft cage build. Thanks for your efforts in education here. I hope to apply your build to 4 or 6 ft blood cages soon. Couple of quick questions: 1) Do you paint with water-proof paint 3x under the polywall before stapling it on? 2) While I appreciate you paint all the exposed wood inside the cage, do you add 3 coats on top of the polywall (and staples) after the final wave of silicon? 3) Do you paint the base/underneath with regular paint, and if so, is it waterproof paint? 4) I noticed the outside of your cage was painted black - was that some regular gloss, or is it more waterproofing stuff? Sorry for the anal questions but I worry about water damage and am happy to do more steps to add more lifetime to the cage. Congrats on your successful breeding season btw!

    • @gloriouspredators1361
      @gloriouspredators1361 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and yes the inside is all painted 3 coats throughout with waterproof non VOC paint. Basically its odor free for like childrens bathrooms. I do not paint the polywall itself, but under it before I lay it down. The outside is similar paint just in Satin Black. Literally these cages will hold a 2 inch puddle of water for days. Female retics can pee like a literal gallon of water. Its a true mystery within the hobby lol so I usually have to use a wet vac to drain it out. This should work nicely for a 4 and 6 foot build or add divider in the 8ft. I do that for some of my 11-12 ft females that refuse to eat when I give them too much space. Hope I got all your questions answered and thank you again.

    What's a plastic turkey bag? I was planning to use a router to cut a groove in a top and bottom lip/edge board for the sliding plexiglass doors, with about 10 inches of overlap between the boards. Any thoughts? Will two pieces of plexiglass slide easily against one another? Why do you want to slide your plexiglass out? I'm confused.

    • @gloriouspredators1361
      @gloriouspredators1361 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bags used when people cook turkeys. They put the turkey inaide the bag and then all together in the roasting pan to be placed in the oven. Well some of those bags release a gas that will kill your pet birds if you ha e any near or close to the kitchen.

    • @gloriouspredators1361
      @gloriouspredators1361 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My plexiglass doesnt slide out but I can lift it up high enough like you wud a normal sliding window in order to clear the bottom track to pull the glass out for easier cleaning. The plexiglass slides perfectly. If you ever have a large female that lays eggs and u want to incubate them, you're gonna want to be able to remove that glass so you can safely get the eggs.

      Introduce a male but make sure u tap her with a hook to let her know food is not coming in. Watch their behavior. Males usually start arching like inch worms. Watch her vent.. if she is ready she will open it up and let a scent out to attract the male. Her tail will wag some and usually try to caress along the males body with it. She may pee a little and some say this is a sign she is rejecting the male, but often they will breed anyways. If she isnt wanting to breed she will most likely coil herself up tight and give him no way in.
