Thanks for the tips on resources!
My goal is to read a lot in french and go from the intermediate plateau to more advanced levels. I would like to learn some Mandarin Chinese. English and German are the language, which I want to maintain.
@@marianavytvytska6998 that’s awesome!! good luck with your goals this year~ 🎀

I think learning grammar from non-native speakers is totally fine, as long as they seem trustworthy. Learners can understand other learners' brains better sometimes. I never really did the "comprehensible input" method for Korean - like you, I just enjoyed watching Kdramas, and I would study vocab and grammar on the side. It would always amaze me how I would learn a word/phrase/grammar point and suddenly start hearing it EVERYWHERE in dramas or variety shows I also never worried about having just Korean subs or no subs or anything like that (even now, I still watch Kdramas with English subs -- I'm watching them for enjoyment more than anything, so I don't want to miss a single word of understanding.) I love using Language Reactor on Netflix for double subs, though, because it's like the best of both worlds. Random question - are you a tennis player? I was staring at the tennis racquets on your sweatshirt for half the video wondering lol
@@SomedayKorean thank you SO much for your insight!! as i’m moving closer into thinking about how i wanna incorporate studying korean back into my life, this is SO so helpful!! i know i won’t be taking the exact same approach as i use for spanish, so i’ve been trying to figure something out. and no! but i want to be hahah which is how i ended up with the hoodie xD i told my sister i wanna get into tennis and she gifted me it LMFAO im hoping to finally start learning how to play this year!! 🥹

Jaci, if your nervous about speaking which is normal for a lot of people, I recommend trying an app like Teacher AI or Talkio AI. With AI software there’s no judgement and this will get you comfortable learning to speak the language and then once you get comfortable then you can practice speaking to an actual person/tutor. AI software is amazing for practicing your speaking skills. 😁

Yay! A new language goals video!!! I love finding new creators this way ❤
You can get great language audio input here on youtube with bilingual stories, they will read a sentence of a story in English then read the same sentence in target language. Polyglot Beats on youtube does that well for multiple languages and there other channels for specific languages... its been helping me get passive listening and learning when going on walks... time is by FAR hardest obstacle in language learning - anything that can get us some passive learning is a plus... the playlist section of Polyglot Beats shows the languages, at the end of the day I think extensive listening is the key to training your ear to the language which will improve mastery 😊
i totally agree with what you said! i’m going to continue focusing on getting in passive listening, especially while taking my daily walks. thank you for your recs!! good luck with your goals! 😊

Omg how fitting I just started a 40h7dLC again today (: I definitely think the shaken confidence is normal, but alsoooo I do disagree with the “always easy” recommendation :o if the difficulty doesn’t “aumentar” how can our understandingggg -.-
@@joreneelanguages omggg thats awesome, good luck with it!! :D okay yesss exactly!! i had to learn it the hard way though LMAO i definitely saw more improvement in my understanding and what i was acquiring by kicking up the difficulty level during this challenge so yeah… gonna keep doing that now hahah 😅
I’m going to try not to ramble, but I love the idea of the challenge! I think I might try to do it myself next week. I’m not tracking my hours, but I notice a major difference in my Spanish when I can listen for at least 5 hours a day. Really wish my Spanish didn’t digress because of school, so I’m utilizing this time to study Spanish over Winter break, even though the same cycle will happen soon 😂 Enjoyed the video!

I really recommend a "Reverso Context" browser extension - you can see the word translation when hovering over it in the subtitles :) (that's of course if you use any subtitles, many people prefer not to use them)
Watching and reading loads of easy stuff, and repetition in general, stops you translating in your head
I'm really interest to see how much Chinese input it takes to get decent level understanding
I totally agree that you basic develop a new brain when learning a new language. Super impressive that you understand a Cuban:) I love their accent but they are so hard to comprehend! Dude, Telenovelas are the best and worst. It's like all the most horrible people come together and make the worst decisions.
@@ThePeachGirlDiaries thats so funny, what you said about telenovelas 🤣 its the truest thing ever though djskdkd i keep watching them tho 😭 lmfaoooo
you actually speak English very fast that would give non English speakers pause in understanding.
i definitely notice that when i'm editing my videos, like yikes i need to slow down 😅 i'll definitely work on that in upcoming videos!!
Oh hey another DS learner! Spanish is my 3rd language and the last time I studied spanish was for 30hrs almost 20 years ago in high school where I barely paid attention. I stopped translating in my head in the first 10-20 hours. Growing up my family spoke to me in one language and everyone else spoke to me another, so that might be why I don't need to take the scenic route when hearing spanish lol
@@syth-jg8lw ooooh okay, that makes sm sense tbh. i have a friend who only started learning spanish a few months ago, but she told me she already stopped translating in her head. and i was like 🤯 jdkdskjds but spanish is her 3rd language as well! def makes sense when you already have 2 under your belt, getting passed that mental block is a bit smoother. really cool! :D
Great job documenting your journey on all the different languages you're learning Jaci!! Would you be interested in being a guest on my language learning podcast and talk about your experience? ☺

If you want to read I really recommend duchinese and heavenly path! I started duchinese from scratch last year and now I'm able to read writers like 余华 and 三毛, I definitely couldn't have done it without those two sites. You do have to put in the hours but it's really been fun along the way!
i've heard about duchinese and i'm definitely going to look into it fr!! and thanks for the other rec, i didnt know about heavenly path. that's so cool you've seen yourself advance so much in reading hanzi!! eeee i can't wait :D thanks for the recs and encouragment!! 🫧
the pinyin is a sound chart its not like the romanisation in Korean I also tried to ignore it at first and quickly learned it was essential to my hearing. A more accurate is the IPA which shows you where to place your tongue. Zhuyin method or Pinyin can be used for typing so saved on learning to write later. This encourages me to definitely start logging my listening hours thanks for sharing. I also started in July. Please do the basic tones. Things will make so much more sense once you do it. It is definitely more input input input is what am being told will help me improve my speaking and making sentences.
ooooh, wow cool youre on a journey to learning mandarin as well! its truly a beautiful language. yeah, i think logging your hours is very helpful and encouraging as well :) and thanks for that advice, i will def look into the tones. i'm sort of familiar with them in general because i did briefly attempt to learn vietnamese a few times before which has way more. but to be more clear on the ones mandarin has specifically would def be beneficial~ good luck on your journey!!
@xojaci thank you I spent 7 hours today listening after watching your video yesterday . We can do this 😊
I’m learning Japanese from near-scratch with CI and it’s a doozy. My first language acquisition experience too (not counting native). Obviously Japanese and Mandarin aren’t the same, but they’re both far enough from English that I feel the experience is gonna be similar to what you’re up to. I’m only around 6.5 hours in right now and I really can’t understand much of anything at all yet without the video, but I’m sure I’ll get there eventually. Thanks for documenting early stages, because those tend to be overlooked a decent bit. Good luck with your efforts!
wow!! that's so cool, good luck on your japanese journey! :D its been a rollercoaster as ive began mandarin from zero, but tbh, it makes it SO worth it because like how cool is that? to know you started a language from scratch and advanced thru CI! like wow fr. and thanks!! i look forward to continuing to update about how it's all going :)
