The irony is that in the first movie, they had already taken his blood. So if they had ignored the fact that he was awake and let him escape, they could have continued the ritual and finished it before the cops showed up.

My older brother's attitude was "No one beats up my little brother except me", but when I hit him back, he thought it was awesome that I wasn't just taking the knocks or running to our parents, and I was standing up for myself.
