LB7 & Subsequent Duramax Engines Fuel Filter Priming Tip
So you ran out of fuel while driving, or you're replacing a fuel filter on your Duramax. What do you do? The trick is to prime the system until the filter is full of fuel. You will have to do this a few times as the system will build pressure while it is pulling fuel from the tank.
Once the system builds pressure and stays that way, or the prime stays 'hard' the filter is full and the truck will start and continue to run. It beats walking back and forth, or grabbing someone to help with this job and helps to prevent cavitation, or starving the High Pressure Pump of fuel.
Cavitation might be a partial cause, or explanation of the catastrophic fuel system failures that are occurring on the later Duramax Diesels with CP4 pumps. See GM TSB #16-NA-102.
Starting in 2017, with the L5P engine, GM went to a lift pump, as well as other changes that might correct some of the very expensive fuel system repairs that had been needed.

Diagnosing A P0420/P0430 Catalyst System Low Efficiency
มุมมอง 2896 ปีที่แล้ว
I've seen a lot of misinformation on the internet about testing a P0420/P0430 - Catalyst System Low Efficiency DTC’s Given the expense of replacing converter(s) I understand the reason to want to be absolutely sure the fault is the converter, but the manufacturer has a vested interest in making sure these are not replaced unnecessarily due to extended warranties that are above and beyond the bu...
Programming a Saturn Astra Key
มุมมอง 3.8K6 ปีที่แล้ว
This wasn't a very popular car over here, but I do see them from time to time. There's a few things that are needed to replace keys. This customer had a broken key and the dealer had cut a new key for the vehicle. They call me up and ask if I can do it. The car is towed here and I can see why they had problems. I did as well. The first step on this is this is a West German vehicle and the NOA (...

A shop sent over a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche that they were stumped trying to get the Catalyst & HO2S monitors to run and pass. Something I forgot to mention in the video was this usually goes quickly running a drive cycle to get the monitors to run and pass when nothing is wrong. It doesn't take 100's, or 1,000's of miles of test driving. Something I mentioned also is not true - California is c...
Using TIS2Web & Tech2Win to change the "Tech 2 software"
มุมมอง 1.6K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Using TIS2Web & Tech2Win to change the software to work on a Saturn Astra and then getting it back to NAO 33.004 This is by far the easiest method and also the least expensive method to switch software versions from NAO 33.004 to - Instead of having 10 mb - 32 mb PCMCIA cards set up for the 'other' vehicles you are working on, or using the erase and set up function for your existing card; which...
Hi so I have a 2008 Saturn Astra and every key smith telling me they don’t have a key fob for my car. All I have is the key blade. I ordered a OEM key fob for my car and still no luck. I don’t know what to do.
I bought a Honk Kong China tech 2 I see even with the CAN box plugged in between tech 2 still only had programmed into it up to 2014 your saying if I use a windows 7 laptop I can down load the GPs2 . Then in have to use the laptop to plug in to a car with the tech 2 and the can box ? I'm new to this this is my first scanner I've made it this long with out ever owning or using one.

@GM'sOnly
Sorry Robert, I've closed the business down and won't be able to help you.
I am down to one key, I have two keys that have been cut but can not be programmed. After a week of people turning me away and watching you tube videos, a dealership in town took on this project. I now have my code but they are missing a memory card to complete the programing. Any advice? Or is your shop near the Ozarks?
If you have a GM dealership that you have brought the car to, they should be able to take care of this for you. They should be able to contact GM TAC to help them with this. Or, they can use Tech2Win and change the software to Astra as shown in this video - th-cam.com/video/rFLvBBTNq2o/w-d-xo.html Sorry, I'm in California.
Where in cali are u located?
Nice video, thanks. Is this considered a Passkey III system? The key is not stamped with PK3 but instead has a number.
No it's not considered a PK3 system, or Passlock. As this is not a domestic GM vehicle, and was assembled in West Germany, they use a different theft system. The key for the immobilizer system is a combination ignition key and keyless entry transmitter, with a transponder located in the plastic body of the key. The transponder value is fixed and unable to be changed. The immobilizer system uses the transponder value to determine if a valid remote key is being used to start the vehicle. There are approximately 3 trillion possible transponder values. There are no visible electrical contacts.
@@gmsonly5087 Thank you. So if doesn't fall into either of those types, when an ECM swap is required, what programming process needs to be followed for the key?
@@MikeSmith-sg2qc To Program ECM Turn on Tech 2. Press Enter key. Select diagnostics and press Enter key. Select Model/Year and press Enter key. Select Saturn Astra (A3360) and press Enter key. Select Engine and press Enter key. Select Programming and press Enter key. Select Program ECU and press Enter Key. Then follow on screen prompts. @@gmsonly5087 Many thanks.
Tech II is asking 'Enter security code'.. no clue
The Security Code is gotten from the dealer. You'll have to prove you own the car to get it from them.
@@gmsonly5087 Got it! Thank you!
@@gmsonly5087 dealers telling me they cant get the code now what ????
@@zsowle50 Are they telling you GM doesn't have it, or they don't want to look? Are you going down in person, or asking over the phone? Due to potential theft issues you'll need to go down in person. You'll need ID to prove who you are and prove that you legally own this vehicle. This SHOULD be stored, as well as other information on the vehicle - key cut... If GM doesn't have this, is the vehicle salvaged, or have a branded title? There's a possibility an aftermarket tool might be able to read this, but I don't have a suggestion. It also appears like the Security/Pin Code is stored in the IPC and if you can find the EEPROM on the IPC using the correct tooling and method you might be able to retrieve that information. That's all I have.
@@gmsonly5087 im having this same problem can u help me out im in cali l.a. county

I followed this video to a tee and it did not work for me. What I found is that you have to open up Tech to win and then go to software download via Tis To Web and select custom, then scroll all the way down to where it says Saturn Astra version 31.001 and download the software. North American operations is not compatible you must use the Saturn Astra software listed down towards the bottom of the list. then you run the security scan and will be able to access the steering control module to program the new key. the software version is 31.001 Saturn Astra. once I did this it worked like a charm and programmed right up. Yes you will be asked for the security key.Your G.M. parts dept. can get that for you.
You are correct, but if you notice I have the Saturn Astra software already installed on Tech2Win and this is mentioned in the comment below the video that you need the Saturn Astra software. Here's a link to another video on how to do that - th-cam.com/video/rFLvBBTNq2o/w-d-xo.html I'm glad it worked out for you, although it sounds like this video wasn't much help for you.
@@gmsonly5087 Actually it was a big help to me, I just wanted to clarify and point out that the proper software does need to be loaded into the tech to win software. This video was actually a heaven sent for me. Thank you.
Hello everyone - GM TIS told me to have RS232 cable Part #3000110 and CDS Part #10703947, I found the 3000110 but could not find Part #10703947 in GM dealer equipment site. Can someone tell me where to find the cable? to program keys for 08 Saturn Astra. Thank you.
I'm not sure what 10703947 is? That wouldn't have been any part# associated with the Tech 2, all those are "300...." as far as I recall. Essentially you would need a USB to serial port adapter, or an older laptop with a serial port. An ethernet cable and a DB9 adapter, which is the adapter from serial to ethernet. Or, use a MDI...
Could you please post the links to the websites you were visiting to get the software? Thank you!

What is the wiring harness on top of the filter housing for?
Very informative video, we've got a 07 duramax in with an intermittent no start, once died right after starting towed in and the primer was loose, had glow plug codes and so we replaced all of them, primed fuel and it started, ran for 40 min no problem, customer drove 40 miles and it died, he primed it and it drove back to us, we let it sit overnight and it started no problem, I attached a gauge to test port and primed it and the gauge went from 20 psi to 0psi in about 10 seconds, but if i clamp supply to injection pump it holds, any ideas? Should i test injector return flow or suspect injection pump or filter head still
im having that problem now . its in the shop. what was your problem?
@@concretebaron5759 I'll have to check for sure tomorrow, its been a while but I'm pretty sure he was fine after we put a filter head on it.
This car a 2008 Astra is driving me nuts. It's telling me no ecu present no com with modules. I am using tech 2 win like you when I try to access SPS security It doesn't recognize my Tech 2 win. I am at my wits end. I'd even be willing to pay for your assistance. You can reply here and will figure away to pm each other if you are interested.
Bill, Are you a shop, or a consumer trying to fix this? Some questions - What are you using for your interface for Tech2Win? None of the modules communicate on any of the busses? Class 2, CAN A, B, C/GMLAN? Do you have SI for this vehicle? Have you ever attempted network testing/diagnosis and are familiar with testing methods and equipment to use? (and have)
I am a consumer but I have a degree is computer science (worked my way thru school working for GM) and have programmed many ecu bcm etc in my life time. I am using the exact same setup as you in your video, I have subscription to sps I took screen snaps of dtc. The biggest one says Mandatory ecu missing. No com with any of the modules. I checked powers and grounds on all modules. They are all there. They replaced the cim. I reset the ecu and reprogrammed All the lans confirmed. the the modules the car had were marked present. I hooked up a break out box to the dlc and I see 60 ohms so the terminating resistors are there. The lights on bob don't light for high speed lan but my oscilloscope hooked up i see data wave forms across all lans. It's giving me a p1648 and will not let me program the transponder key and b3055 wrong transponder key. I got to tell you this one is kicking my butt. Thanks for your reply.
I just got a Tech2 scanner never used one before. I want to scan a 2009 Saturn Astra but it doesn't have Astra on the scanner. How do I add Astra to the scanner?
Probably the easiest way to do this is to buy a PCMCIA with the software that you need on it. ebay has one listed right now. www.ebay.com/itm/Saturn-Astra-31-001-Card-Tech2-Vetronix-Tech-2-Scanner-32MB-2008-2010/162745232334?hash=item25e45f2bce:g:rM0AAOSws6ZaAyMU Here's a link to a user guide for the TECH2 - gsi.ext.gm.com/userguides/GM_Tech2_User_Guide.pdf Here's a video that I put up doing this with Tech2Win, which gives you an idea of what's involved changing the software for that vehicle. th-cam.com/video/rFLvBBTNq2o/w-d-xo.html
I thought I was getting a bargain on this car getting it at an auction for $600! Like many times at police auctions, there was no key, and that is usually a $200 fix with a locksmith. Now I’m stuck with this car I can’t turn on, any advice?!? If you’re in California, can I come to you?
Hi Bridgette, I am in California and if you're close to the Riverside area I'd be happy to take care of that for you.
Nice video👍👍 how much psi is there suppose to be on the injector fuel rail when cranking the engine? My engine doesn’t start and I have about 4500psi when cranking that shows up on the scanner
If this engine is cranking, but doesn't start, you won't see 4,500 PSI, or at least you shouldn't. Are you looking at the desired, or the actual pressure? Without having any specifics on the type of vehicle you're working on - LB7, LLY...I can generalize DTC's stored? And not just ECM, but on the Class 2/Low speed GMLAN. Do the other modules communicate? Even though the ECM/TCM... communicate on the CAN, High Speed GMLAN, there are signals that need to be there for this vehicle to start that are on the low speed network(s) Is there B+ on the Ignition 1 signal Does the supply side prime and can you develop a minimum of 8 PSI pressure? Does it hold/maintain that pressure? Is there cranking RPM? There's a few steps more before you're actually looking at the CP3/HPP. My suggestion would be to look at a flow chart for the Engine Cranks But Doesn't Start. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
