This film was originally released in 1927 by Fables Studios under the title "The Magician". It was part of the "Aesop's Fables" series. This version comes by way of a later home movie re-release of only a portion of the original film with the title changed to "Chinatown Mystery". This is from a 9.5mm print I own. This is from an 8mm print I own. It's a home movie release of "The Great Cheese Robbery", which is a Bray Krazy Kat film released in 1920. This print came in a box with no printing and only "GREAT CHEESE ROB" hand-written on the box. Also in the box was a folded-up sheet of paper that was an order form for films from Thunderbird Films. I had it transferred to digital by CinePost on June 24, 2024.

This is from an 8mm print I own. I don't know much about the origins of this film. The opening title lists a copyright year of 1938, but given that it's a silent film with intertitles, that copyright date might be for the date of the home movie re-release, not the original release. I don't think the distributor switched the titles, it seems like it was just a print of a reissue of the real cartoon that ended up being spliced into this one. I think it because the ending is from an Astra TV reissue, and it doesn't seem to be spliced, as there is nothing that makes it seem that way.
Can I get permission to use this print in a video? The video will be unlisted and only a portion of the video, not the entire video.

Thanks, I fixed the title and description. I had mistakenly originally used 1929 because that was the date of the sound re-issue under the title of "Presto-Chango".
