D&D Deity | Hextor | Greyhawk
Greyhawk Lore - Hextor: I mainly used an article from Sean K. Reynolds. He did amazing research on the topic, and I hope to honour his work, and give it life again through my video. That said, I have added a little Grey league spice at times. Also check out Canonfire forum for deeper information on this deity.
If you liked the video, please tell a friend or share it online, helping others find this lore is very much appreciated. Now, grab a drink, relax and let’s take a journey in Greyhawk.
As always, I may have added some extra wordings and bend the origin story to fit my version of Greyhawk.
Thank you so much for watching!
If you enjoyed it then don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, comment & share.
I would love to hear from you.

Good video ,Thanks
Olidammara annoying!?😂
Excellent video! This is some fantastic food for thought for using Hextor to full effect in my own games. Much appreciated!
Fantastic video and nice Christmas present 😊
@@Andre99328 thank you Andre. I was hoping I could make a few people happy.
How I play Hextor at my table is often very cunning warrior always with a plan and strategy. Utilizing even his rivals like Erythnul to help with his goals and then turn them into a scapegoat to wash his hands clean of any misdeed that would draw attention from other deities in a negative way. I also play into how proud and open the Hextor faith is allowing there presence felt in any campaign where they are involved. A enemy out in broad daylight can be a far more terrifying foe than ones clinging to the shadows. How I play the Herioneous rivalry is that Hextor is the younger brother and gets little brother treatment with Herioneous rarely ever instigating conflict, only out of necessity, when dealing with Hextor. This trivialization of their rivalry angers Hextor pushing him to greater conflicts with his older brother to which the majority of deities view it as two brothers have a never ending wrestling match at the cost of countless mortal lives. If any party has a direct encounter I have his a black knight with a cold and calculated demeanor in which then when or if they attack they are shocked to see his true form and multi attacks to often the shock and surprise at my table. Amazing video keep up the amazing work. :)
@@justingreenley9452 great take on their relationship.
@@TheGreyLeague Thank you :)
Good Video, Thanks! great background flavor for T1.
Why did you make Hextor a handsome villain? If the internet has taught me anything, there will be a conga-line of thirsty women worshiping Hextor now.
good video, thanks!
good video, thanks!
@@ericfoerter2075 hari Kirihimete a Eric
Many years ago I played in a brilliantly run "Liberation of Sterich" campaign. We were rangers, fighters and druids from Sterich, Geoff and the Yeomanry. The DM had an interesting take on the Yeomanry. The druids were both priests and professionals. The druids were teachers and protectors. Farming clans would hire druids bless their crops and tame the weather. The free people had a strong distrust of wizards and nobility, annually celebrating their victory against them. I've used that as the my Yeomanry ever since.
Great video. I've always wanted to play a Cleric based off of Clint Eastwood's "Preacher" from "Pale Rider". St. Cuthbert would be a perfect patron.
@@johnmince6311 that's a perfect character setup. His way is hard..but it is just.
What Domains would be suggested for Heroneus clerics? War and Order?
@@Telenil depending on the system you use (I use the pf2e ruleset), I think that is a good start.
I use 5e.
Got goosebumps when Tharizdun spoke 😮 Honestly, wonderfull video. In my current campaign a Boccob tower in the city of Monmurg plays an importieren role and your video gave me inspiration.
I like St Cuthbert as one of the first gods created for the World of Greyhawk and opposition force against Iuz in the Tempel of Elemental Evil module.
Very inspiring video.
Thank you Andre, appreciate it.
I am currently playing a Pelor cleric for three years in our campaign. Really like your video.

Isn't Pelor a Flan deity?
Yes he is Diego. In the Origin, I state that he was there in the beginning and worshipped or feared by all creatures. They may have different names for him however. In my greyhawk he is one of the Aetherics. You can read about my theory on my blog.
The gods are cool and all, but I hope you will eventually make it back to the kingdoms of Greyhawk. SO many are left to cover.
I will, but those take a lot of time and research. I am currently travelling and a few more deity videos are scheduled to appear. I will be doing research on some countries whilst on the road for a few months.
Fantastic. I've been Dming for nearly twenty years and did not know that Pelor and Nurell where brothers but look forward to incorporating that in future campaigns! Keep up the good work and looking forward to see if you do my fav god Olidammara!
Thank you Justin. Appreciate it. I have a few scheduled and I just couldn't finish the Olidammara video in time. He is the first one I'll do after my travels.
@@TheGreyLeague I look forward to it and the ones you have scheduled next! Enjoy your travels! :)
Good to see you’re restarting this channel.
Well met Cuthbert. I have been doing it for a few years but my channel is a hobby and thus my video collection is small. Thanks for the support.
I will be creating another video about the Flan culture in 2025. Thanks to Ai, I will finally be able to create the correct images and Focus on the Flan of a particular area. Hope you will enjoy those as well. Stay tuned.

I will be creating another video in 2025 about the migrations and it will differ from this one. Hope you will enjoy those as well. Stay tuned.

Good job! As always you cover all the bases
Wonderful video. I actually learned something!
A personal favorite deity. Great work!
You've got to love the Oeridian pantheon's twins - dynamic, opposed pairs make for lots of story hooks.
I don't know how to say this...your video content is excellent, but the way you speak in most of them is very choppy and hard to listen to. You might benefit from trying to smooth out your voice and trying some different speaking patterns. Love the content, but it's just hard to listen to.
I'll see what I can do, but I am a non-native English speaker and not a professional TH-cam content creator. Appreciate the feedback though and again, I will see what I can do. I did notice, listening back to this 2 year old recording that it hasn't been my best recording.
Good video.
If you wanted to do a video on Allitur that would be awesome. I'm playing a favored soul of Allitur and the resources on that god are so thin.
Good you called him simply Cuthbert. Saint is a very catholic title. It is interesting to mention some of his proeminent clerics, as Canon Terjon and Canoness Y'dey from Hommlet and Nulb respectively.
Brilliant, Thank you! Your videos are worth the wait, because when you publish…pure platinum!!! Depth of lore, presented with concise clarity. A rare skill to be sure these days. May blessed Cuthbert watch over you (to keep Iuz on the retreat:) Cheers, T
@@toddnorthcrux1120 thank you so much for your kind words. It is because of these gems of comments that I keep doing it, even when I barely have time. 🙏
When Cuthbert comes a knocking, duck!
Another great video! Looking forward to more of these. Saint Cuthbert and Rao were fairly prominent deities in the last World of Greyhawk campaign I ran (or tried to run; short lived as it was) and I pictured them as spiritual allies with their religions being culturally important to the region of Keoland the game took place in. Good to see that my portrayal of St. Cuthbert's worship was pretty spot-on based on your useful & informative video!
Appreciate, as always, you support Sir John. Happy gaming
I like this. It would be cool if you continued these short videos about the Gods and Goddesses of Greyhawk.
They will be. Heironeous is already scheduled and Wee Jas and Pelor will be arriving in October and November. I will try to get Hextor and Olidammara done before the end of the year and before I leave on another adventure ;-)
@@TheGreyLeague Sorry for delay. I can't wait😄... Seriously I can wait. I want to add that I'm an old grumpy who began to play D&D when it was a box and not a book😄 It since 30, maybe, surely more, years that I play. And my favorite "universe" is Greyhawk. Well my interpretation of Greyhawk.
