Long Horn Sheep LaQuinta California at PGA West
Flying my Drone early in the morning before any golfers and I came across some Long Horn Sheep high up in the mountains. I didn't stay long as I didn't want to stress these beautiful creatures.

My Mom had this video I have never seen before on 8mm film. She recently decided to get it digitized before the film degraded further. I remember doing this with my best friend Mark back in 1975. I don't remember my parents filming this. The video had no sound but was shot in color. Quality has degraded over time so I cut out those parts that were bad. I can't believe I was ever that young. I hope you meant 80 mph instead of 80 knots on final - even 80 mph is 10 mph to hot I’ve got about 700 hours in my PA22-160 and 70 mph is about perfect

    I had a friend that had a 1959 150 HP Tri Pacer. He flew it in and out of a 700' grass strip on his dairy farm. He would accelerate and pop on full flaps to take off. Would've been a great bush pilot. A great airplane.

    That lightly loaded, you should go gear-up after positive-rate instead of when there is no more usable runway, because if you have an engine failure you will have the climb performance available on the remaining engine to safely continue the climb, and bring the gear up sooner just gives you more altitude buffer sooner.

      It’s training! Relax Paulus, 34 year airline pilot, 787 Captain/APD/LCA, and over 30 years instructing in everything from Cessna 152’s, to Airbus and Boeing 787’s. So many variables, how often do you fly, are you safe, are you gaining proficiency during the training event, etc. I would love to give you a checkride and see how perfect you are sir!

    Hi, great video. I am curious about a comment you made during first landing. You said not to go under 80 kts on final, is that correct. It just seems so fast, the stalling speed is 48 kts for a Tripacer. Could you talk about why that is your target speed on final. I am a student pilot so I am trying to learn all I can. Thanks.

    Young folks today have no idea that the Tri-Pacer was an out growth of a late 1940's design! They stopped building it's little brother (PA-22-108 Colt) about 1964. But with so many thousands built, these birds kept flying for DECADES! Back in the late 60's, my first CFI had learned in a Tri-Pacer! And there seems to be many hundreds (thousands?) still flying today! The Initial design concept was a basic, tough but inexpensive plane for general use. It's too bad we have NOTHING to fill that spot today.

    • @johnnycfi
      @johnnycfi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well Robin you’re absolutely right! We sold our Tri-pacer to buy a Cessna 210 which was a bad decision. Sold the 210 to some Mexicans and now we have a T-8F Luscombe which is also a joy to fly.

    • @johnnycfi
      @johnnycfi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the Ercoupes, they tend to get a hot on the climb out but fun to fly. Simple to fly, buy and cheap to own and maintain. You can fly with the canopy open. Some come with rudder pedals and most without.

      John Harrison Thank you very much captain, l have been reading on pprnue and other sites on the internet about the performance of this lovely jet and most of the guys who claim to have flown then keep stating that it’s a maximum 1200 nautical mile jet. Thanks for your clarification.

    What I enjoyed most were the two T-38 references/stories to which John did not bite 😂. I’m with ya Roy- “below 240, gear clear Sir”. 45 degree bank in the final turn with your aim point in the dirt 1/4 mile before the threshold- no problem 🙃. I will miss the white rocket (Talon to you coffee table book readers) when the T-X replaces it 😕.

    When I was only 20 years old and just about to earn my "Ticket", I was prepared to buy a very nice used Tri-pacer for an even $3100. !! And only 10 years later that same bird sold for $6000. With recent overhaul and a "Fresh Annual"! Try that today! For six grand? Your Tri-Pacer would arrive in several laundry baskets! 😂

    Every time I see a Tri Pacer it reminds me of running into an old friend you haven't seen in years and they have the biggest smile on their face as they greet you 1:18. Of all the airplanes in the world a Tri Pacer is the only that actually looks like it has a personality.
