Kubota RTV X900 - Check your rear hub knuckle pins
Just been doing some routine maintenance on my Kubota X900 RTV and noticed something....
The rear hub knuckle pivot pins have sheared in the retaining plates.
I'm guessing that because there is no lubrication, that the aluminium hub is grabbing in on the pins and causing stress because the pins are fixed to the "A" arms.
I need to buy all new pivot pins and lubricate them well before fitting them.

      So far it is very good - the clarity is a lot better than my Thermion 1 XP50 and Trail XP50. Compare this video to th-cam.com/video/ealNniZSaJE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=sthHa32baTvIiQm7 I'm undecided on the base magnification of 1.75 - My Thermion 1 is 2.0 and my Trail is 1.6 I did a lot of recording on Friday night after getting my XL50, and thought the 7x magnification a bit pixelated for my liking, but then I found the "Smoothing Filter" setting which has improved things. I always set mine up with base magnification in the main view and two up magnification in the Picture in Picture. I like the ballistic functionality and changed mine to the reticle line instead of the "X" for where to aim. I like the ability to name the profiles - previously I've had "A for my 243", "B for my 204", "C for my 17HMR" etc. So far, very pleased.

    Thanks for doing the video, I am looking into a MDT XRS stock for my tikka t3x super varmint. My question to you is is it worth it? Also does the bolt remove from the action without dropping the cheek piece down? It doesn't clear the cheek piece on the original stock unless its all the way down. Annoying when i have to drop the cheek piece every time when removing the bolt for storage. I am a bit of a perfectionist so seeing that the action doesn't sit on the intended flat spots on the stock/chassis makes me think that its not been designed well enough and is just irritating.

    • @nicksshootingmatters
      @nicksshootingmatters ปีที่แล้ว

      Bottom line is "Yes" it's worth it in my opinion. I've used the GRS Bifrost & Berserk stocks and their ergonomics are better, but for a rigid stock with attachment options the XRS stock is a must. The very first shot I fired with the XRS was a game changer, it was so solid and didn't flex like the GRS stocks, that is not to say the GRS stocks flex much, but when you've fired a solid stock you notice the difference. One of the main reasons I changed was I wanted to fit a ARCA rail, so I could use on a Camera Tripod (see other videos). My main shooting style is driving to a spot in my buggy at night, setting up the rifle on the tripod (fitted with thermal scope), and getting out my camping seat. I'll then sit there with a Thermal Spotter and wait 2-3 hours. The other night I saw 3 Muntjac in a wood and head shot all 3 from 115 yards away off the tripod.

      Bottom line, I prefer the XRS. That said the ergonomics of the Bifrost are far better, the grip is shaped to your hand etc. The XRS also meant I could use 10 shot AICS magazines. My first shot with the XRS was a game changer - you immediately felt how solid it was in comparison to the Bifrost. One of my main reasons for changing was I want to use the rifle on a tripod, which meant affixing a rail, which was straight forward with the XRS.

Not only could you move them side to side but there was also silicon under the lug itself. Scraped all of that mess out and did a proper bedding on the lug. Was not at all impressed for that price in both of these aspects.

    I dont understand the problem. If the action is be slightly off and as long as the action is plumb with the scope, which really does matter, your accuracy won’t be affected as long as it is torqued to spec.

    • @nicksshootingmatters
      @nicksshootingmatters ปีที่แล้ว

      So long as you don't mind the trigger being off to one side and not central, and having the stock not vertical to the action/scope, and the risk of the action subsequently rotating till it is vertical under the shock of firing, then there is no issue. But this is just my view...

    • @foonus406
      @foonus406 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its actually even more than this, there is a reason when a gunsmith indexes the barrel to your action he puts the highest spot directly at 12:00.. has a lot to do with barrel harmonics.

    I'm going to have to ask you, if you could put a spacer on the XRS chassis, then why not on the GRS? Is it the overall fit and feel of the MDT chassis or the ergonomics of the pad area? Bit being a hardass about it, just wanting to know. I understand about making it fit you for sure. Shoot a browning 725 pro sport for trap, continental, 5 stand, and sporting clays. It just didn't fit right. So added a fully adjustable rear plate except in and out. Had to use 1/2" polypropylene and make a spacer plus a thicker recoil pad. Could use a little bit more length tho.

    • @nicksshootingmatters
      @nicksshootingmatters ปีที่แล้ว

      With my GRS Beserk stock I made up a longer thread and rods to increase the length of pull. With my GRS Bifrost the adjustment rods are plastic U channels, so I couldn't make up new ones, but I guess I could have fabricated a spacer, GRS actually do a 1 inch limbsaver pad.... From an ergonomic point of view the GRS is more comfortable because it is designed around your hands, and in some way because it is flexible. The MDT XRS is just rock solid and you feel everything.

    I like and agree on your technique. I use all of this on the complete build. From action into stock, mounting mounts, installing scope. Use Multiple levels on the barrel and action that stay on until everything is installed. Had bought a shotkam for learning to shoot shotgun. It really displays poor form between firearm and shooter. A slight canter shows up. So I install it on the rifle and then install the scope bubble after getting set up to the rifle. My Dad always said " if you don't have time to do it right the first time, you didn't have time to do it at all"!

    • @nicksshootingmatters
      @nicksshootingmatters ปีที่แล้ว

      Your Dad is wise! I once bought some tracer shotgun cartridges back in the 1990's - I shot at some clays, and the tracer indicated I was behind, but I was hitting the clays. The tracer itself was lagging behind the shot! Shotkam is the way to go, plus if you get a video from the side it may point out any issues as well. With regards to scope bubble, I do a lot of night shooting (pitch black) and I'd love to fit a "SendIt" level which is LED, but I'll have to save up for it.

    • @nicksshootingmatters
      @nicksshootingmatters ปีที่แล้ว

      The GRS Stocks are brilliant, the grip is contoured to your palm, length of pull can be easily adjusted without having to use spacers (although the max length of pull was too short on the GRS for me), the inlet is spot on. The GRS uses original hardware - standard magazine, plastic base plate/trigger guard. I'm just trying to remember why I wanted a MDT, it may have been that I wanted 10 round magazines...but from the very first shot I was hooked - it was how solid the whole stock was, you feel everything. In addition I was able to fit an Arca Swiss rail and therefore fix the rifle to a tripod (see my other videos). When it comes to it, both stock makes are equally good, but I think you really need to try both to see which one bests suits you....and I mean fire a shot.

    This is rubbish. For a start, your action seats itself correctly in the chassis when you tighten the action screws. Secondly, it doesn't make any difference to anything how "level" your action is in the stock or chassis.

    • @nicksshootingmatters
      @nicksshootingmatters ปีที่แล้ว

      Everyone can have their own opinion. As you will see from my video, my action does not seat itself correctly in the chassis when I tighten the action screws, you may have an XRS stock and T3x action that does.... I understand why you say it doesn't matter how level your action is, obviously you would set your scope level to the action and cant the chassis slightly when shooting, with the trigger being off centre to the chassis. I used to shoot for the GB team, and compete in world championships, and for me everything has to be right. In those days I had stock made for me, with a bedded action and fitted to me by the gunsmith...how things have changed.

      I also do it as recommended always used this method for stock replacements. A little bump on the buttstock while holding the top hand around the stock and barrel where the recoil lug is received by the action. The mating up of that lug and the back of the action are the most important contact points. This is also the reason people bed actions at those points.

    This is just incorrect, the chassis is designed so the action bolts tighten the action into the chassis. Doing it this way misses the fundamental point of setting the recoil lug hard against the slot in the chassis. Suggest you follow the MDT installation instructions and ignore this misleading video.

    • @nwashin1
      @nwashin1 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry that you believe my video is incorrect and misleading... I tried it the MDT before even creating this video and found I had the action off at an angle to the stock, hence why I use a level. I will admit there is one error in my video, and that I torqued the rear action bolt first whereas the instructions say front first. MDT Instruction "2. Place your action into the XRS chassis and begin to secure action screws, beginning with the front." Is there actually anything wrong with doing it my way (other than I should have tightened the front first)? I'm getting the action hard against the recoil lug before ensuring the action is level with stock before tightening down the action bolts. The recoil lug isn't tall enough to stop the action rolling, the action is round, the inlet is round, and there is too much clearance in the action bolts....

    • @richymc1871
      @richymc1871 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never seen this issue on any MDT or other chassis used across Tikka T3x and Rem700 actions. Your action looks like it’s been painted/cerakoted is there excess material underneath stopping it sitting in the chassis properly?

    • @nicksshootingmatters
      @nicksshootingmatters ปีที่แล้ว

      No there is no excess on the bottom of the action... I was surprised when I got the stock that there wasn't a better locating method. The GRS stock I took the action out of has a flat section that the action sits on and then recessed for the section of the action where the bolts are, so no way the action could be off vertical. The XRS inlet is completely round....

    Have you tried torquing the bolts without a level to see if it's just because the bolts are loose? Like when you torque down the bolts it should take all slack out of the action. It's a machine surface. I ordered a xrs stock, haven't recieved it yet. Tikka t3x varmint left hand.

      Yes, I have which led me to using a level to set my rifle up. I previously had GRS stocks, which were profiled to fit into the action properly and there was no chance of roll. The MDT stock is simply a circular inlet and the with the clearance in the action bolts there is a possibility for the action to roll. I did thinking about turning up some sleeves on the lathe to take up the bolt clearance issue, but in the end just went with it as it was. I do love my XRS stock, which is why I bought a second one. I have one on my .243 and one on my .204.

      @@nicksshootingmatters I have installed the rifle into the chassis and all I did was put it in and tighten the bolts. No level necessary on mine. I tipped it up 90 degrees like In the install video. All good.

      @@fraserlordly2432 , that's good to know. I was able to see visually that mine wasn't level the very first time I installed it. One bit of advice, make sure you re-torque the action after your first outing, you may find it settle down a bit after a few rounds. From the very first rounds of mine, I was loving the chassis, you can tell from the direct chassis response compared to polymer stocks...
