That slalom track looks fun as!
Really a informative video….. thank you so much for this❤
Thanks for the comment, hope it helped!
nicely done, many thanks...
Thanks glad it helped!
why is one of your speakers upside down?
Ha I was wondering if someone would spot this! I had just come back from a music video shoot where I use it as a speaker for the band and just put it back on the stand before filming this. Good catch!
Thank you for this Wonderful Tutorial. I have just finished watching the Part 1 , now I'm here in Part 2 I've watched other channels too on Lightroom Tutorials but they were all in a Hurry and Fast. Yours is Steady and Easy to follow. Thank you Sir
Very useful step by step tutorial. Thanks for it!
Thanks for the comment glad it was useful!
Great video. I found this really useful, easy to follow your style too, many thanks for your time and effort in making these videos.
Artificial intelligence brought me here 🫣
Liked, subscribed, I want to know an efficient workflow for making very pretty photos
Yo! great video, I was cruising YT trying to small photographer/creators like you! Keep it up, loved the video!
Thanks for the comment and support!
Learned more in this video than I have from any other beginner-oriented video I've watched so far. Cheers!
Great! Thx!
Most I see in these example pictures is confirmation bias, tbh
I am tired to look to a people filming themselves reading from a paper or a prompter what they have to say. And about the rule of thirds... too much people talk about this small subject and not at all relevant. But it is what it is. You must provide clips after clips. :)
Great video, dropped a like and a follow, you deserve it!
Cheers thanks for the support!
4:07 This image would look _so_ much better if somebody could please vomit into the lower left corner… This is a ”composition“ of a left-handed moron pretending he knows something about photography.
Well, first off, I don't do well remembering rules of photography... there are too many. When I look through the lens I just try to make things "work" and that is where I am... shoot for fun, shoot for what looks good to my eye, and don't worry about it.
That's what it's about for most people. It's about enjoying the process. These "rules" shouldn't be seen as anything more than mere guidelines, because that is what they are. These composition standards give creatives something to easy to remember and to fall back on whenever needed. But they should not be seen as limitations. If something better presents itself through your viewfinder, follow your gut:)
I regret not using the word guidelines in this video as you are both right, if something different presents itself that breaks all the "rules" then go for it, it's about what looks good to you at the end :)
While I agree that using other techniques can improve your photography I still think starting with TROT is very important to get the basic idea of how a composition should work. Especially for those who's coming into photography. It's a lot in the beginning to think about and mixing a lot of different compositional techniques into that will only overwhelm (most) people.
Thanks for the comment, and I agree it's a great technique for understanding the importance of composition. And also true, trying to do everything at once can be overwhelming especially when starting out.
Personaly I am using the rule of whatever-the-fuck-looks-cool-and-interesting.
Pretty much where I am as well. There is no interest in my photography and so few ever see it... it just doesn't matter.
Thanks, that's interesting!
Thanks for the comment, hope it helps with your photography journey!
Fun fact about the "rule" of thirds: it was _never_ used before 1797, and has _never_ been used sinc by any major painter or photographer. Granted, it could be a crutch to take people from a neophyte to a beginner level, when photos were taken with camaera that had that central circle for focusing and neophytes had a tendency to place the subject dead center on that circle. But with smartphones and modern cameras, I strongly believe this "rule of thirds" should be taught and explicitely decribed as a complete beginner aid, but then the first and most important true rule should be introduced: balance.
Thanks for the comment! Ah that's good to know, and I agree it's a good beginner tool to help move towards balance and other techniques. Interesting to know that no-one major painter has used since.
Its really difficult sometimes, but I like to cheat the rule of thirds with game of lines in the image. If you have naturally appearing lines leading to your subject, it doesn't really matter whether its on the arbitrary grid - it brings the eyes towards the subject one way or another. But so far I had luck only very few times to really pull it off! Great video and thanks for a book recommendation!
It's a tricky one when it's something that people are used to seeing and generally works well. But I'm the same if I see some natural lines, I'm a big fan of just seeing how that will turn out when I take the shot! Like all things it's getting out there and just taking more shots (which is easier said than done!)
Fängt ja schon beschissen an.
Hi Ross. So glad I found your YT channel. I took a lot of photos in NY near there and wasn't sure how to edit. Love your technique and can't wait to try it. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment! Sorry for the late reply I've been travelling the past month, Hope the NY photos turned out amazing!
Man , this was great, tbh I'm not a patient person, and your advice here 14:33 just made me realise my mistake, you are a great teacher, keep it up
Thanks for the comment, glad it's helped! Please tell me if I ever ramble on as I'm not patient either!
The link for the presets is dead. Great video btw.. thank you
Thanks for letting me know and for the comment! Try that again I've just redone the page :)
I love this vid! im currently at a place where my store was my full time income and now ts not, what did you do during those times?
Financially, I worked on a client side teaching music to have some more regular income. Definantly lost hope on the store, but then doing the product research side was what allowed me to find my competition check if my product was still selling in the market or if there was something better. I spent a lot of time on Everbee finding things then created some new listings more in line with competition and paid marketing for about $3 per day to test it. This really helped recover my store.
Everything is nice but your sky replacement does not compliment the shadows...sun is now not at correct posision and although very beautiful it is not correct!
This is wonderful advice, today I'll implement the 3 faq photos! I notice you are in the UK, I am too, do you sell to America or just stay in the UK market?
Thanks for the comment, the FAQ photos were a game changer to reduce customer messages. Personally I only stay in the UK market as I can manage delivery expectations better. I have though of partnering internationally for printing but at the moment its easier national and I get the sales I need, so I'd rather keep the rep of the store high with good reviews and stay national rather than risk international.
You use that paper with reproductions of artistry works, such as oil, acrylic, watercolor?
Thanks for the comment! Watercolour reproductions I generally use this paper but I've also used the Marrutt 316gsm Standard Fine Art paper for more of a texture finish for oils as it still gives good colour and the texture helps the brush strokes.
@@ross_wilson Awesome, thanks! Great channel.
So glad I found you. I have been selling on Etsy since 2015 (digital art) and I took a break due to personal issues. I was able to make a full time living from my art. Since being back, Etsy is flooded with AI and I can't seem to make many sales anymore. Was thinking of giving up. You just motivated me to keep up with it, thank you.
Thanks for the comment! It can be frustrating but also so rewarding, there is definitely more on Etsy AI wise but I believe it is largely about making for the market and what they love! I found moving art into the personalized area help improve sales. Keep going and doing what you love :)
Hi Ross , What is the file and is it straight from camera please ? new to your channel.
Subscribed. Great explanation
Thanks for the comment!
Links are expired, can you please provide a correct link pls?
Thanks for the comment! I've just been in the middle of working on switching a website over. The link should work now.
Great video Ross, Keep at it !
Thanks for the comment and support!
Thank you for this video, I've spent most of my day trying to sort out what to do with my store. I have a print store but I never had a lot of sales in the time in which it's been open. I had gotten discouraged and took everything down and started fresh but still no sales. 🥹 I've decided to no longer have a print store on Etsy and just to open my shop through something like Shopify. I will still use the advise you have given for my new store because it's very valuable. 🤗
Good video, thank you
Thanks for the comment! Glad that you liked it :)
Really like your video. I Sell on etsy and most of the youtube is filled with POD, AI art and how to make money with that. I make art using laser and have literally all the issues that you discuss, I make what I like, I do not do trend research . I am really struggling. Thank you for your video. Waiting for more. I feel My art is "useless" to others , Do you provide any service where I can ask questions . Just wanting some help before I give up. Thank you
Hey, thanks for the comment! AI art is definately the trend at the moment but i find most people are still looking for unique bits or art and handmade. I do have some training and materials coming soon to help start or improve shops (so bit of watch this space) but I wouldn't say your art is ever useless, it might come down to how it's packaged as a listing, SEO photos etc, or it could be that the audience for your art might not be on Etsy but a different platform. I've had products in the past that didn't do well on Etsy but worked better through my own website.
I loved the #3 settings and showing what happens at different shutter speeds. Now I know how to view what I am looking for with the examples. I really liked the 0.6 sec the best. I have struggled with what actually looks nicer. This really answered my questions and thoughts on what I want and looks best. I finally got the ND filter for my new lens yesterday. We are heading for rough surf (warning just popped up) here in San Diego with coming rain storm in a few days. Excited to go back out at mid to low tide to see what I will capture. I have many tidepools to go out to practice on. Thank you for making this video!! Very helpful! Plus thank you about the multi shoot on my camera. I have not used it and this will be perfect to test out. Great video!!!
Ah awesome, 0.6 is one of my favourites especially with tidepools, really helps to show motion in the water, but it really is set up and take loads of shots until that perfect one comes along! Hope you managed to get some good ones!
I found Etsy full of scams and bots and not a good place to do business.
Thanks for the comment, I've found Etsy to be one of the most successful places I've sold but as most platforms there are still scams and bots. I think it will come down to the market that you go into. Most of what I do is personalised so harder for bots as theres more customer interaction.
my tone curve isnt allowing me to make the dots like it is with yours any suggetions ?
Thanks for the comment! I can only think that you might have it on Parametric Curve instead of Point Curve. At the top of the curves tool are 5 circles, select the one to the left of the red this should open the point curve and allow you to click anywhere on the curve to make the dots. Hopefully this fixes it!
@@ross_wilson not long after I commented I had a look and figured out what it was and it’s basically what you just said haha
I never realized how powerful the curve tool can be. Thanks for opening up my eyes. I've learned a lot.
Thanks for the comment! It's a very powerful tool in both Lightroom and Photoshop with a lot of potential. Glad the video helped :)
You call this BRUSH?????? that is TEXTURE, USE WITH BLENDING MODE, I think you need a TUTORIAL to learn HOW TO MAKE ADAMN BRUSHES
I love how concise you are, while still explaining in great detail. That was a quick sub!! Thank you
Thanks for the comment! Glad you found some value in it :)
(Local) color grading is still not available within LR masks, right? I know we can use the tone curve with masks but I prefer the wheels!
As far as I know, not at the moment, theres point colour and you could use curves in the mask to bring in some extra colour but I prefer the wheels as well!
Great video! I'd never even noticed the global option before!
Thanks for the comment! It's a quick handy fix the global option. I'm still finding hidden icons myself in Lightroom!
Just found your channel by chance, and working my way through. Really enjoying the vids. Any idea when your lightroom course is coming?
Thanks for the comment, I do have some free Lightroom training on the channel at the moment as a Part 1 and 2 long video that goes through the various tools :)
@@ross_wilson found that, really good info in there thanks for sharing! Legend
Thats a great tutorial. Thank you. I use Affinity Photo for my edits; its a powerful tool, but without presets. I feel my images are lacking 'punch' and, well, the professional look and feel. I'm often tempted to reconsider Lightroom; it seems to have a lot more features and control. Will check out your other videos 👍🏻
I haven't tried Affinity myself, I guess I mainly use Lightroom as I have a workflow that I'm used to on there that helps me speed through edits! Adding depth with masks and light I found helps give me that punch which might be why I use Lightroom quite a lot but I do need to explore Affinity!
It's a great tool but as of now I gotta disagree with just shooting everything in focus thinking you might as well fix it in the edit. The Ai tool produces some strange artefacts on the edges between stuff that's in and out of focus, in-camera still does it a lot better.
Oh I agree, I'm not going to be shooting everything in focus at f13 above. With a lot of these new tools I'm keen to push them when shooting to see what can be achieved as I always try to think about the edit when shooting, so will try shooting at different focus' and see how the edits go. The Bokeh addition is particularly cool! Hopefully as Adobe gets feedback the artefacts will be improved.
