    How come so many comments are too silly. Iran is developing their airplane design. This is not the end product. They make several designs to learn different aspects. The point is they are developing this technology also. It is ok if not yet as good as the benchmark but as a highly sactioned country, their progress is amaizing.

      Any complex endeavor takes time, and there will always be setbacks. That's hardly the issue. It's Iranian government officials setting the standard. The claim is they can take on the highest end threats with this technology but it's clear the technology isn't even developed. It's all show, no substance.

      @@aviationrambler The fact is despite knowing the reality people are still commenting this "false" claim. So, it is not just a show. Iran has succesfully instilled doubt in the heart of their enemies. Why people have to waste their time for fake news? Because they need to tell to themselves what Iran cannot achieve yet.

    So question, I’m assuming these trainee pilots start off in class, then practice with their gear and the interior of the aircraft to get a feel for it, before they practice on land and finally carrier deck landing and take off training at the end?

      I'm not super familiar with their curriculum, sadly, but generally it's a lot of ground school, followed by simulation, then flying with the instructor in back.

    I have to disagree on who killed who, yes harry was a piece of trash, and the original Boeing management had a lot to say about how business was carried out. McAir delivered the best fighters , everyone want a piece of the company as i saw stock split after split. I was on the EMD flight test team for the E/F it was a great time, until the Monday we came to work with another badge (Boeing) , then it got so bad everyone started to leave. the V22 was a mess and engineering was being shipped over to that program against their will. flight crew was leaving and shop personnel, well they decided it was enough and they left in droves. mistakes and cover ups were made on the civilian side, and nobody got the axe but a raise. that's why I left in 06 for the airlines. I have to say 99% of the employees were terrific and wanted a great company, upper management brought it down to what it is today.

      That last sentence sums up pretty much any job I've worked. And honestly, that is the argument being made here. I don't think it's as simple as one guy (Harry) killing both companies, it's the ideology that cemented itself into upper corporate culture that calls for unchecked greed at the cost of... everything. Even the long term health of the company.

    The one thing you cannot replicate is that they stripped everything nonessential out of that f15 to accomplish this. The radar, counter measures, the jfs, etc. In essence, the Streak Eagle was gas, engines, and wings.

      Not only that but it was an unneeded preproduction model so it wasn't as reinforced as combat aircraft.

      I have an IRL manual and it notes that maximum operating temperature is 980°C. Looking at the footage, it seems I was at 970-975°C so I was right on the edge. So really the engine is probably fine. Even if it did overheat, it was for a few seconds. Of course, when operating any aircraft to its extreme performance envelope, I imagine there's probably some inspections that kick in.

      Weather is probably the single largest factor here. That cold temperature really brings down the density altitude. Sure it does equate to some more drag but the engines perform much better and you get higher indicated airspeeds at higher true altitudes as a result.

    This was a very interesting bit of "exploratory surgery". The current habit of "oversimplification" of reporting may be the zeitgeist of our information-dense generation, but it makes a distant second to even a basic desire to learn more about issues. We many times take a quick dopamine hit of new information over taking time to process. In that way, this video produced more than just a look into current events. Thank you for reminding me to think for myself.

      The primary point of my channel is to inspire upcoming aviation enthusiasts. When I was young, I had many documentaries and online resources to explore that are now extremely obscure. I want to pass that forward. Outside of that primary objective, the second objective is to promote intellectual honesty and curiosity. The modern media model is built on the idea of pleasing a demographic with whatever they want to hear, while slipping in small doses of what the media outlet wants the audience to believe. They attract a consumer by providing an echo chamber as a safe space, and then spoon feed opinions once that trust is gained. It's intellectual junk food. Reality is extremely complex and I advocate to embrace that complexity. I don't have all the answers. I will be wrong from time to time because I'm not omnipotent. Still, by tackling what seems to be the impossible, I better myself, and I pass that forward in my videos.

    Great logic……2-engined aircraft is safer than 1-engined aircraft, and 3-engined aircraft is safer than 2-engined aircraft, 4-engined aircraft is safer than 3-engined aircraft, 5-engined aircraft is safer than 4-engined aircraft……….nowadays, it’s safest to fly on the B-52 bomber, because it has 8-engines.

    When the Russians to a man right up to the Mig 23, don't know about the SU27 or Mig 29, would rather ride a plane into the ground than chance the almost certain broken back of an ejection, that's really saying something. BTW Valentine Baker died in the crash of their own creation the MB3 during the 2nd WW which made Martin put a great deal more thought into the MB5 which would have been epic if he hadn't been so focused on everything perfect that he ran out of war, but then yes the ejection seat thing keeping his partners name up to today.

      It is more that he is speaking too fast and the words meld into one another. It was very hard to listen to at first, but got better as he slowed down, but was yet too fast. I would say he has a very good voice, maybe just new or nervous. Still beats a bot.

      I'm from the northern midwest and we're known for talking fast it seems. I've tried to slow down in the past but what ends up happening is my brain starts outpacing my mouth and it creates a desync. Of course if I slow down too much then people will just start fast forwarding the video. I guess I don't have a good answer for this.

      @@aviationrambler It will work out. Time will fix it. You need your own cadence and you will find it. I would suggest maybe do a coupla minutes of an old video as a warm up. Develop your rhythm. You have a good voice. learn to control it. Not by forcing it, but by practice and listening to what you have done. Won't be long and you will have a professional quality voice, something that is needed in the land of bots. PS talking fast is a sign of intelligence. Not sure about your neck of the woods.

      @@danlemke6407 Yeah we'll see as time progresses how it works out. I usually do a series of warm ups before recording, and of course I do rewatch my content on the regular, seeing what works and what doesn't. Been tightening up my writing as a result. Also yes, good God the bots. That's a major inspiration for the channel is the awful channels out there just copy and pasting poorly written articles they find online into a TTS and uploading it to TH-cam. It's gotten so much worse with AI. It's basically a selling point that everything you see on my channel is self researched, self written, sometimes self filmed, self edited, and so on. An educational channel by an actual human being for other human beings.

    Interesting early history. Some of your information is slightly off and only really focuses on the Martin-Baker contribution when there were many other seats around the world. The Zvezda K-36 is very different, and there are no seats to my knowledge that are rocket only. I am an ejection seat historian and run a web site on seats. Thanks though for finding a few interesting tid-bits.

      I wished I could've touched on some specific seats. The K-36 would've been really interesting to talk about. In fact, I wanted to mention that one specifically due to a video by Paper Skies on the SU-24. Unfortunately it got cut for pacing reasons. The video isn't intended to be all encompassing, rather, it's designed to be a primer or summary. For that same reason, that's why I focused on Martin-Baker so much since, as mentioned, they're basically the industry standard in the west. As for a rocket only seat, the ACES V is described as using a rocket powered catapult (CKU-5C) along with the main rocket booster, hence the quote. The website is cool. A site I used for a lot of my research seems defunct and so I had to use the wayback machine a lot. So glad to see another endeavor to preserve the history.

      @@aviationrambler The Paper Skies video was interesting but doesn't cover some of the details. My site isn't dead but it is waiting for me to have time for some massive updates. The ACES 5 (not V) uses the CKU-5C ROCAT (Rocket Catapult) which does still use a cartridge to initiate movement. The history of egress is hard to track because a lot of it wasn't considered important compared to the aircraft, yet there is a tremendous amount of evolution that the designs have gone through. The K-36 took several innovations from other seats around the world, along with Russian pragmatism and developed a pretty good seat. With the upgrades that followed the Foreign Comparative Testing program they are quite good. The Martin-Baker Mk 16/18 seats are also very impressive as is the ACES 5. Comparing the Generation 1 and 2 seats with the more modern ones is like comparing a push mower to a riding mower with all the accessories on it. And you touch on one of the key things that is hard for people to understand, which is that 90% or more ejection seats will end their lives still in the cockpit. Much like airbags in cars, which is one of the very few technologies with that kind of expectation.

    The B-52s are being re winged and all the engines are being upgraded to a higher thrust more fuel efficient variety of turbofan. They will be flight until 2070. And yea they are basically cruise missile launching platforms now. It can carry 20 cruise missiles. Nuclear and non nuclear variants.

    And no pilot in the US Air Force or the US Navy is being rushed through their training. That’s absurd. From the time a new recruit signs on the dotted line and signs up for the Air Force it is 2-2.5 full years before they are completly done learning the aircraft and are proficient flying it and deploying the weapons that they are assigned to their permenantly duty station. So 2 years. They are being rushed through. That’s crazy. Our pilots are the best trained the best prepared and the best equipped anywhere in this planet. They are the best plain and simple. And Naval Aviators are the best of the best. Do you know how difficult it is to land an F-35 or F-18 on an aircraft carrier at night in high seas and bad weather? It’s one of The most difficult things that can be done in the military. And our boys do it every day flawlessly. That’s one of The reasons the Chinese navy doesn’t scare me. They do t have pilots who can do that. They have no one to teach their pilots how to do that. They haven’t taught a war in 70 years. They have never taught a naval war. We would clean their clocks in a fight. Straight up.

    We are raising defense spending from 3.5 to 4% of GDP. This is a multi year process. The Air Force and the Navy know how many aircraft they need to fight a war. Congress gives them whatever they need. If they said we need 1000 more planes then Congress would allocate money for it and the planes will be built. Has it ever occurred to you that the force doesn’t have to be as big today as it has been in the past because it is so much more lethal? We have 800-900 F-35s and that number will go up to 2000 before the production run is over. 1 F-35 is as lethal as 2 F-16s because it’s so Much harder to detect an F-35 than a F16. Our F-35’s and F-22’s can shoot first on any plane in the sky. Meaning we can detect them shoot and then go home before he knows you were there. You need less of these weapons BECAUSE they are so much more lethal.

    A detailed and interesting look into why pilot ejector seats are simultaneously life-saving and injury-promoting. The human factor is clearly delicate: too much force injures the body, not enough force limits a pilot's separation from the aircraft. Would it be possible to force a separation of the cockpit from the fuselage, thereby giving the pilot the chance to separate in a [hopefully slower-moving] shell which would slow their ejection need? Or is the "ejection calculation cocktail" still something systems developers need to get better at? Food for thought. Take care.

      Truthfully current seats offer plenty of separation. It's just zero-zero is the absolute worst case scenario. There have been some aircraft to use a capsule, the F-111 comes to mind. Of course there's pros and cons there as well. Nothing's ever free sadly. It does offer a lot of protection for the pilot, at the cost of a lot of weight and cost. And the weight savings could be argued would contribute to better evasion of threats, preventing the need for ejection in the first place. Still tho, it does open up the ejection envelope at higher speeds.

      @@aviationrambler Zero-Zero is in some ways the worse scenario but high speed ejections are extremely dangerous. The relative wind can cause flail injuries that often are lethal. The new head and neck protections on the ACES 5 and Mk 16/18 seats helps reduce that. Capsules are not only very heavy, they require a very large explosive chain to sever the skin, cables and other connections, as well as huge rockets and parachutes. This explosive chain is one of the main reasons the B-1B didn't follow on the B-1A crew module. It would have required too much fleet downtime to keep the charges in date.

    5:43 Just a quick note, I described the SAAB 17 as a daytime fighter, but it's actually a dive bomber. The seat was tested in the SAAB 17 to eventually be fielded in the SAAB 21 which is a daytime fighter. I wish I caught this earlier but I was two days of editing and multiple gallons of coffee into production but the time I noticed. Anyways, hope you enjoy.

    taking on the chinese in the air, would pretty well size up the best pilots , which are good ol u s a boys. driving the new eagle, is a lethal situation, god help the chinese guys..

      I think there's no doubt the US would win the conflict but issues plague the military. Victory? Sure. But at an extreme cost.

      Until the Chinese, either by or build a much better jet they will have trouble sustaining any kind of airwar against the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany, Israel,Sweden based on quality anyway I don't know much about Sweden 's numbers. I strongly suspect that South Korea has better pilots and jets than China. Russia builds better jet engines than China does. They're engines have a very short service life.

      @@garyhughes2446 Again, I don't suspect the Chinese would win but a couple comments. I highly doubt all of NATO would engage against China, or at least in any meaningful capacity, as they're mostly regional. Second comment is the Chinese have been producing aircraft that outclass their Russian counter parts. That's why Russia finally okayed the SU-35 deal in much lower numbers than it wanted to sell, as they knew Chinese rate of development would surpass them soon, and it has. Now comparing the J-11B to the SU-35 shows it's very close, with an edge likely going to China due to their latest efforts of upgrading the jets with common data link and missile warning systems, tho how widespread these upgrades are I don't know. I highly recommend watching my video on the Chinese airforce, but the tldr is the equipment the Chinese are producing aren't as good as US counterparts, but they're closing the gap to the point where they're definitely dangerous. It is for this reason that several think tanks, and the US military itself, think that a war with China would be indecisive at worst and mutually destructive with a slight edge to the US at best.

    I listened carefully to your report, however I think it is necessary to add this: Since the Second World War, the USA has lost every major war until now. The USA has a policy of colonialism which is coming to an end. And I go through a number of arguments to demonstrate that your analysis is incomplete and very naive. Yours from Europe!

      I've contemplated for a good while on how to answer this but the "Since the Second World War, the USA has lost every major war until now." really points out the out of touch nature of this comment. The US has had its ups and downs sure but implying it's lost every conflict it's been involved in is just lunacy. "The USA has a policy of colonialism which is coming to an end." This too was mentioned through out the video, so perhaps you didn't listen carefully enough and as such I think your analysis is incomplete. Anyways, you do you... I guess.

      It's an interesting factor. The idea was globalization would decrease conflicts as the ever increasing integration of economies would render the idea of conflict distasteful. However, I think it's safe to say that since WWII ended, most conflicts were simply frozen, and now we're starting to see them thaw.

    I heard this at an air show 10 years ago, and have never forgot it. It sounds amazing as your hear an approaching F/A-18 in a high speed pass.
