IT'S IN THE WAY. I shift the volume knob to where the tone knob is and get rid of the tone pot. I don't use it anyway. Did the same for my old Jackson and Ibanez RGA. Seriously annoying design. I plug the hole left behind with a flat rubber plug, can buy them online.

It's quite strange that the JC-120 isn't true stereo. Roland made up for this by making the JC-40 and JC-22 true stereo, but then didn't include a stereo effects loop. I wish they would just release the head and speakers separately. I sold my JC to get a Tone Master Pro. It's got a JC-120 model and JC Chorus and Vibrato. I think coupling this with two FR cabs is now the best way to achieve the wide stereo JC sound that we're all seeking. Plus, you can also make it sound like a Twin Reverb at the tap of footswitch. I haven't been able to afford the FR cabs yet, but what I can get in my headphones is impressive. The Roland Chorus, Fender Tremolos and Spring Reverbs are genuinely detailed and authentic.

I also own one, early 80's and created a stereo balanced XLR line out on it to connect to the band's PA mixer. The end stage is a true, fairly flat stereo (2 channel) amplifier. The part that makes it mono is the noisy mono pre-amp, having it's inputs at the front. The famous built-in chorus and vibrato effects in the pre-stage however have an internal stereo output connected to the end stage that creates the famous broad and rich stereo chorus that made this amp a succes. The solid state 2x60W end stage and superb Roland speakers are a great combo to produce a powerful and rich, noise-free sound. So what I do, running the beast as a keyboard amp, I use the 2 main in's at the back as stereo input. (not the line in which is mono). Then the pre-amp is bypassed by the built-in switch at the main-in connectors and the noise is gone. That however causes the front inputs being blocked as soon as you plug in to the main in inpus. This also opens opportunity for guitarists. You could use a high-end stereo pre-amp as a top and run that into the JC-120 main inputs, having all the modern facilities like (stereo) effect send-return etc. I'm not sure if the same scenario is to be used on modern JC-120's

      >This also opens opportunity for guitarists. You could use a high-end stereo pre-amp as a top and run that into the JC-120 main inputs I'm using an IR-200 pedal like that, but I'd imagine any modern modeler/profiler/preamp pedal would do, even if it is mono, preamp pedal -> stereo chorus/modulation/delay/verb pedal -> JC-120 returns

I've had (and used) the Mackie HDR24/96, the HD24, ProTools HD (and native), NUMEROUS computer audio interfaces (Steinberg, Focusrite, RME, Digi design, etc.) and even a RADAR system, and the MOST RELIABLE digital recording method REMAINS the HD24. Yeah, it's a pain that it requires PATA/IDE drives -- (there are SATA caddies out there, but they're not as reliable) -- that it doesn't have the lowest throughput latency, that there's only one level of undo, and that it doesn't do .wav/.aiff natively, but it ALWAYS WORKS! Also, ANY two tracks are sample-accurate to one another (so you never have phase issues with stereo pairs) and it's got decent metering (albeit a bit small) and discrete analog I/O to boot. No matter WHAT I'm tracking to (even analog tape) I will ALWAYS run the Alesis in parallel as backup; it's just a great security blanket.

I hit upon this pedal by accident, I had used a DS1 and it was OK but not great, I tried Mega Distortion that had way more gain than the DS1 but the sound was not what I was after. The metal zone was the same, too thin then the ML2 came up on marketplace for $50 and I thought well, if its no good I can sell it and get my money back but was blown away, it had a real rich distortion that was what i was looking for. I use this thing for rock solos and have even paired it with a Dimension C and a bit of delay for a classic 80s sound. Great pedal.

The solution is to get rid of the second tone knob, and move the other two down one... so master vol + master tone. Fill the unused top hole with a hole plug from any hardware store, or get a custom pickguard from warmoth for $30. The slide switch I actually think is ok, but I changed the 5-way on my Strat to a 3-way, which is less finicky and easy to accidentally change. I don't like positions 2 and 4.

Nice video. I own one of these that I bought brand new many years ago. I have the XR version which has the higher bit rate AD/DA convertors. * Anyway, I have been considering using my HR24 XR as an interface by using the Optical ADAT Input and Output connections (on the back of the machine), to interface with a RME Digiface USB 66-Channel ADAT to USB Optical Audio Interface, then sending the signal to my DAW (via USB) so that I can have 24 analog TRS in and 24 TRS outs to my Analog mixer. * The question would be are those ADAT Optical connectors on the back of the HR24 active all the time even when not actually recording or playing back audio. This makes me a little nervous that I would get stuck buying the RME unit and not being able to use it wasting $629. I am still considering trying it. If I can find the Alesis USA Home office phone again, I may call and ask them. Thanks. Phil Jersey Shore Area
