My most brilliant idea yet for the laser engraver!
Hi, and welcome to my "Hooked On Laser" channel. In this video, I show you my most brilliant idea yet for my Rayjet R400 laser engraver!
More info about this laser can be found at: www.troteclaser.com/en/
You might recognize me from my other channel, 'Hooked On Wood, 'where I share my passion for woodworking.
A channel by which I try to inspire woodworkers to make the best of their workshop.
Here is a link to my website: hookedonwood.online
In this series of short videos, I want to take you on my journey of getting to know my Rayjet laser engraver better.
The thinking behind this is that what I like or dislike, you will probably feel the same way about it.
Although I want to explore the opportunities this Rayjet offers, most of these items are universal. There is a big chance you will face the same challenges as me, so perhaps I can help you with my solutions.
Please do not forget to subscribe. We see each other next time!

Neje MAX 4 Laser REVIEW
มุมมอง 27Kปีที่แล้ว
This video is about the NEJE Max 4 diode laser engraver. I think it could be one of the most excited diode lasers now. In this video, I explain why? If you are interested in this laser, I would appreciate it if you could use the following link to enter their site. shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1632323&u=3011583&m=101855&urllink=&afftrack= My main channel is "Hooked On Wood," with over 150K subscribers...
Ciao, come air assist che pompa utilizzi, compressore con serbatoio o classica pompa tipo quella per acquario?
Hi Dennis, love all your videos. Right now which 20w laser would you buy. NEJE, Enjoywood, xtool or atomstack? Thank you
Hey Dennis, really enjoy your videos! Curious if you could elaborate on why you chose the R400? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a cutter/engraver. Thanks and keep up the great inspirational videos!
You would like the “trace” frame by Shaper.
I only do max. 5mm acrylic and wood on a Sculpfun S9. Would a motorized Z benefit me and if so is the Neje Max 4 carriage available separately (No laser, no NEMA 17)? Or are the other alternative Z addons available?
Perhaps with engraving some slight differences in height can be beneficial. But besides that, with 5mm there is not much benefit for z axis movement
Found this channel from your Hooked on Wood channel. I love the idea of cutting foam with my laser. What kind of foam do you have to use?
IIT'S A GREAT IDEA!! I just met you (I haven't seen your other channel) but this one seems to me to have a very good future. It is a pleasure to find a channel where people speak peacefully, without believing that in order to get attention you have to raise your voice. These types of videos tend to be very stressful. I tell you that I have worked with a CO2 laser for a long time (since 2009). I recommend that you pay close attention and do not neglect it because it is more powerful than the diode lasers you are used to. When an already cut piece falls on the honeycomb, if the laser cuts another neighboring piece, the one that fell could catch fire if it were in the laser's path. You cannot stop controlling this machine while it is working, if you have to go drink water or take a call, pause it! I congratulate you on your content and the way you communicate it. Good luck!
And what about the elektro magnetique valv... do you realy need it????
Hi Dennis. Thank you for sharing this video. Could you let us know what kind of foam you are using for the inlay (and maybe where one would source it from)? I'd like to give it a try with my diode laser. Keep up the great videos, I really enjoy watching them.
lasersheets.nl/products/pe-hardschuim-plaat?variant=47064191893839 Here you go!
😂using acrylic to raise the piece to be worked is not recommended, you risk ruining it when the laser cuts the piece. also why did you hang the plaque behind you that youtube sends to channels with over 100 thousand subscribers? but take it off, you'll make a better impression
That is exactly why it absorb the laser beam. So, yes with every cut it will damage, but it will take a long time before you have to replace it. The plaque is for my other channel, but if you do not mind, I don't want to redo my workshop because I want to talk about lasers.
I must not have been paying attention. I watch your hooked on wood videos but never noticed that you mentioned you had this page as well. I am looking into getting a laser and this helped. Thanks!
Excellent solution!!!
Just came across your channel. Love the video. Do you happen to have a link to files for the honeycomb acrylic inserts/rails? I think this would be a good option to help me level the area for large sheets. My bed area is about 3’ x 2’ but the honeycomb bed is not level. So the laser comes out of focus on large cuts. With the acrylic rails I can cut some a little taller/shorter to compensate and get things level.
I think it is also a great help to level your honeycomb bed indeed. I do not have template available. But you will work it out.
Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to seeing more about your projects with this kaser. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Just awesome, great solution. Thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
How does this laser compare to your previous favourite - Neje?
This is a totally different machine, also price wise and more suited for the professional user. I can not say too many bad things about the Gweike because I liked it and when it fits your need, it is a fantastic machine. But this machine creates more possibilities.
@@HookedOnLaserscan u make a second video about ur gweike cloud? I like the first one very much. I am curious about your thoughts after using it for a longer time. Like maintenance etc. I am also curious about how u deal with foam extraction in your shop.
Managed to find this channel :)
Nice. Make order now. Tnx 🤌
Where did you get the foam, and what kind is it?
Here you go: lasersheets.nl/products/pe-hardschuim-plaat?variant=47064191893839
hey where can I find the lens shield didn't find on the site
Thanks for the video. Good luck with this channel! Really enjoy Hooked on Wood"
Need more laser videos! I love your new 2nd channel. I am interested in learning more about lasers myself and embarking a new journey into the laser engraving. Thank you Dennis.
Sounds good!
Another great video, thanks. When will you be doing a video on the NEJE that you promised last year?
software is it in the price,? to do the rute , power, z higte. I can make things in solid works, designspark mec .... cad app
what do you think about it, does the laser also work with other full-color, non-transparent Akrylic? In the near future, I would have a lot of work with non-transparent acrylics, white, red, yellow, etc.
For cutting Acrylic I would invest in a Co2 laser. You can laser black Acrylic, but it is not as nice as with a Co2 laser. Especially when you want to sell something like that, I do not think it has the quality you want to offer.
@@HookedonWoodthx a lot! I wish you the best of luck with your new channel!
Hi Denis. Have you tried xtools laser? With the enclosure and add fume filter it looks a good option to remove poisonous gases from cutting by burning.
Looking forward to your next hooked in lasers review 🙏
Could you maybe review tyvok spider x1 10w laser?
Hi Denis, can you explain how do you cope with fumes from laser cut into wood for example? Tks for your nice explain videos
I think something is not correct. The diameter of the laser dot does not become bigger if you use the right lens. The lens makes the focal point. Please elaborate.
Just got my Neje Max 4, this video was very helpful. Thank you for this video, happy new year…. Hope to see more Neje videos from you in 2024
How do you like it?
One thing i havnt got an answer to watching some videos. Do i need some kind of exhaust for the fumes/smoke from lasers? How do i solve that? I guess my smoke alarm will go crazy, and what about my lungs?
Yes, you need some kind of box to place the laser in with an exhaust fan. Depending on what you want to do, this fan should be stronger. These lasers have become more and more powerful. And when you cut thicker wood, you burn more, and this smoke has to leave. Too much smoke can set on the lens, which can burn. The second reason is your health. The third reason is that when you have a good solution for this, you will use it much more. Such a box does not have to be complex. Keep some holes in it, so it can extract some air when the fan is running.
@@HookedonWood Thank you so much for answering! Ok i see. Should it go to some kind of filter, or should it go outside? Outside is harder to solve.
@@rnenjoyrightnow definitely go out side with the exhaust. Search videos for “Laser Enclosure”
cool device, i have anycubic mega pro with only 1500mW Laser, and i will buy max 4. did you recomend it?
thanks for the video! very good info in general and in special about the neje and its special features.
Would you recommend this over an xtool? I’m a true beginner and have never used a laser.
If you got the extra money get the X tool if you’re ok with its size I would pick X-Tool. The Neje really has no instructions, also had to build the relay for the air assist. Neje works well but I had to invest a dozen hours into TH-cam videos to figure it out. In my case I need the larger work area.
So if you only wanted to buy one laser, and the cost wasn’t a factor, I assume the Gwieke Cloud is the better purchase due to greater usability?
I like the fact you can cut acrylic with the Gweike Cloud. But when woodworking is your main thing, and you will use it to create templates, this is the one. The size is so much bigger, especially with the extension kit. You can make relatively large templates. I like the Gweike Cloud for its build quality and how they ship it. The new versions do have a good automatic focus, and it has more power. For a Diode laser, this Neje would be my choice. The 20 watt is powerful enough and there is a good change that when the laser units itself would be even more powerful in a way it will make a difference, you can change it in the future for that one.
Been watching you for a while.... Your the Rolls-Royce of timber..... It's a credit to you... Amazing work
Many thanks for the video Dennis. After watching it I ordered the Max 4, I live in the UK and it was delivered within a week. You mentioned that you would be doing a follow up video on this laser, which I would be very interested in watching. Do you know when you will be releasing the video? Many thanks and good luck with the new channel
Got my max 4 yesterday, took me 3 hours to get it fired up. Very frustrating to build with no written instructions and no prior experience/knowledge of lasers. Now I’m trying to figure out how to adjust the head for focus. Is it done on the machine or the software or a combination of the two? Haven’t found a video explaining that.
Silly request, Possible to remove the black in your watermark? I find it distracting when watching your videos, my eyes keep locking on to it :(
Hi, Greetings from Argentina, very nice review, tyvm. Is a relly nice machine and capable !
Hoi Dennis, What happened when the workpiece moved?
I lowered 6mm total. Bit that leaves not that much space left. And because the honeycomb panel was not completely flat, this was the result. Did not have the time to do it over and it would not change the outcome by much.
*Good video and explanation Dennis!* I came over from the other channel. Glad to see you getting started with laser reviews!
Can this laser engrave correctly for example if you are engraving across a picture frame that has different heights? Or would that only be the case if you design the picture frame in Fusion, cut it on a cnc and then engrave with this laser. Which of course would be a lot of work.
If the Z axis has even travel distance to handle the frame, then yes. this could be done.
Yes, you would need a cad model of the frame to be able to generate the 3D toolpath.
Still no 3D printers... :poke: :^). Good luck with the new channel. I suspect at some point I may get one - it just needs a home and I'm too tight. I'm working (it seems to be on the long range time line) on a RC balsawood airplane and the short kit was laser cut, but some bits don't fit all that well (I think they used the original die cut bits to program it, frankly the whole kit could stand to be redrawn in CAD so the lines are better) so this would be a real boon for redoing some parts.
Very nice that you also start this new channel. Also following you on Hooked on Wood
Thank you! good to see you here as well!

Hi Dennis, Great video. I am trying to place an order but it says cannot be delivered to this address. I live in England. Can you tell me if I can order this item or not?
I just mailed Neje. I will keep you informed as soon as I get the answer. I think this will be tomorrow in the morning. I wil respond your DM.
I got this answer from Neje. Because after Brexit, goods from our European warehouses cannot be sent to the UK. Many logistics do not support sending to the UK and can only be shipped from China. However, shipping from China requires high freight and tariffs. We have currently transported a batch of goods to the UK and they are still on the way. They will arrive at the warehouse around November. We suggest that he wait for a while before ordering products shipped from the UK.
Thank you Dennis@@HookedOnLasers

"Stunning Looks"?
Hi Dennis, I am new to laser engraving and am looking at getting the Neje MAX 4 with the E80 module. Do I need to buy a separate air assist module? Thanks!
with the base offer on their site, you need air assist. So, when interested, I think the option with honeycomb panel and air assist is the best to make. These are two essential accessories you need. I found the price difference for these two accessories very affordable. Especially considering its large honeycomb panel. Best regards. Dennis
