Frederick...good to see you again after nearly 5 years since the Zippiz NES mini classic....which I copied....almost exactly and was the first of about 7 Pi builds..the RPi3b... 3 OrangePi 's and 3 more RPi's....thanks to your tutorial...love the new hobby of RC cars...my mate was into them but he gave them up...shame...nice Jeep or Range Rover? You asked me if I put a Pi in NES fake controller..haha..no...I never did...I still use the NES mini from the 500in1 case but now with a slow RPiA+ Retropie just for NES...take care in cashless Sweden (Stockholm?) post Pandemic...

Wow, thank you so much Mark this really made my day! Also great to read somebody enjoyed and copied the project. Red flag released NES shell made for the pi soon after my video so most people just suggested that i should have bought one of them. Yeah I might enjoy my newly interest for RC a bit to much, a lot of new cars already here and on the way. Might make a build video for one of them 🤔 I live in the more southern part of Sweden, Växjö but still almost cashless haha that's true. Take care and thank you again for writing, I really appreciate it!

Yeah, I just soldered a USB at the end of the controller cable. specs Frederic...hi...i copied your build and leads back then..wow..it's been nearly 4 years..just wanted to update you..i reused the Rpi3b for another build..but i bought an eBay Rpi1 700Mhz very slow but enough in the NES mini clone case..just for NES ROMs only..i wanted to reduce leads so i made a Dsub to Female USB adaptor soldered with short wires..set it in a hot glue mould..and filled in with more hot glue..quite firm..and shrink wrapped it..have to be quick with the heating..as the hot glue melts again haha..neater job..and my soldering inside to the clone board has improved too..only single USB connected..all the best from part Locked-down London..

Thank you for this informative video. I myself brought 2 nes clones on ebay for like 45euros while back and immediately builded a "nes pi" with a on/off button using this guide(thumbs up). I went further for making the reset button as a exit-out-of-emulator-button which was a hassle because the button wouldn't register as a joypad press in the emulators(retropie) which i sorted out with a similar solution by making a bash script for finding the open emulator in memory and exit the emulator back to the menu when button was pushed. There's many guides out there now for making such a script and putting it to work(search youtube or google). Free Tips: be careful when disassembling/assembling the nes-clone because the plastic that the screws goes into are very brittle(i broken one case myself). If you want more than a powerbutton and/or exit button i've would recommend you to buy a cheap microchip like ATtiny85(arduino) and hooking it up internally for use as a USB HID such as a joypad and/or keypad for making save/Load gamestate as an example . Its very easy todo so, one could simple make it like "if (button0 == HIGH) { Keyboard.write('A'); }" within the Arduino IDE and then make the A key as Hotkey for save/load gamestate within retropie.

Is it possible to make a custom NES controller that looks like a normal OEM controller shell, however it has a hidden turbo feature/Macro that is self contained, and runs on original NES console. Where you could set a direction on the DPAD to have turbo as well as B button with Turbo function? Also would it be possible to do this while "hiding" the turbo/macro switch from plain view?
