Superb, and scary, work. Now to implement countermeasures! We think of 800Hz as slow, but for scanning a finger position it is beyond real time.
Great Presentation!
thank u for uploading this!!
Wow that's Awesome
Very interesting: Just one side note to the blocking of ICMP packets to prevent CSI data collection: ARP packets or ICMPv6 ND packets cannot be blocked, because these packets are necessary to establish network connectivity. Furthermore, ARP frames are smaller than an ICMP ping - so less overhead. So maybe it's a good idea to use ARP for CSI data collection. I guess a good countermeasure would be to have a rate limiter on the clients for ARP and ICMP packets to lower the CSI recognition rate / frequency. However, very interesting.
Another tuning idea is using RTS/CTS frames for CSI data collection. Advantage: - Blocking is not so easy - everything is performed by the WLAN chipset - Less random frequency, because RTS/CTS frames are wireless control frames --> Less interframe space / no backoff necessary
We would like to remark that the Mix&Slice implementation is publicly available here: github.com/unibg-seclab/aesmix
