Videos that highlight my laser scanning and drafting / modeling projects.
Scan All Fishes: Hardhead Snailfish
This is a 3D model I created from CT Scans (roughly 400 slices) provided by the University of Washington’s Friday Harbor Labs "Scan All Fishes" project on the Open Science Network. This small fish (1 1/2” long) is a new species of Snailfish found in Alaska in 2000.
Visit imaginis3d.com/ to find links to the model for viewing and downloading.

UAS / Drone Video and Photo 3D Conversion

3D models created from high resolution photos and videos acquired by unmanned aircraft. From this data we can create DTMs, Index Maps, Orthomosaics, Contours, pointclouds, and more.
Portuguese Oven 3D Model
มุมมอง 948 ปีที่แล้ว
This 3D photogrammetry model was a test case to show the benefits of museum digital archiving and of using the technology for interactive educational tools. An interactive model is located here: skfb.ly/KBEI This also shows the functionality of photogrammetry as an alternate source of reality capture to laser scanning. Small museums need support from tourism to stay alive, and hopefully 3D mode...
Laser Scanning the Past: Cedar Creek Grist Mill
มุมมอง 6529 ปีที่แล้ว
A virtual fly through created with laser scanning data, or pointclouds, of the historic Cedar Creek Grist Mill in Woodland WA. Built in 1876, it is the oldest and only working flour grinding mill in the state. Data was acquired with a FARO 330 scanner. Play in HD mode for best viewing.
Bridge Failure Scan
มุมมอง 2249 ปีที่แล้ว
Laser scan of a beam failure under a small bridge. A FARO 330 laser scanner was used to acquire the data, and Rhino 5 and Adobe Premier to make the fly through.
Oregon Zoo Condor Exhibit: Scanning for Topography
มุมมอง 1809 ปีที่แล้ว
Oregon Zoo, Portland . New Condor Exhibit. This is an example of using 3D scanning to acquire topographical and construction as-built data. The extracted information was used to augment the land survey of the zoo.
Laser Scanning the Past: Paisley Caves
มุมมอง 3.2K10 ปีที่แล้ว
3D model of a portion of the Paisley Caves in central Oregon. This site is believed to be the oldest human dwelling in North America. It is currently the field school for the archaeology dept at University of Oregon. This model was created from a laser scan. Watch in HD mode for best viewing quality!
Laser Scanning the Past: Fort Vancouver Historic Site
มุมมอง 51310 ปีที่แล้ว
Laser scan of archaeological site at Fort Vancouver Parade Grounds. The WSDA is excavating for the original flag pole base that was in the parade grounds during the civil war. The location of the pole was in the middle of a road that ran through the grounds. The scanner picked up the slight elevation of the road. The adjacent Grant House was also scanned. Set your quality settings to HD for bes...
Laser Scan to 3D Model: Fishing Trawler
มุมมอง 66810 ปีที่แล้ว
This scan to model project was for hull analysis and design modifications. I used a FARO Focus scanner to capture the data, and Rhino 5 to model the hull. It took about 30 scans to get the proper coverage.
Laser Scan to 3D Model: Lloyd Center Mall
มุมมอง 66210 ปีที่แล้ว
Using a FARO Focus 330, and no targets, we scanned all three floors of the Lloyd Center Mall in Portland, for a design project. Then we created a model using RHINO5 software to flesh out the structural elements of the building for the Architect. This video is the conceptual rendering with various sections of scan data turned on. I added cheesy mall piano music, so enjoy!
Laser Scanning and Modeling of Ship's Bow

Fishing trawler I laser scanned and modeled for design modifications. Only the bow is featured in this video.

Which software you use and can I do it manually or is it plan set for the drone before fly?
How can I watch point cloud data through oculus rift
Could you please give advice on how you modeled the mall from the point cloud in RHINO5 ? Thanks
Really SUPER!! Did you also scan the interior? How long were you on site and how big is the point cloud?
BioMocap I will be going back to scan the interior soon. It took about 2 hours to scan and the entire pointcloud is around 300 million points.
Awesome job Jerry...one more great tool in Historic Preservation!
I would like to see it in slow motion!
Interesting, I never knew it looked like that in full outside view.
I agree with you! Point clouds are a tool, and its application needs to fit the needs of the client. Many times it is only a "gee whiz" thing. I use scanning as a way to create accurate 3D models. It is rare the our clients will get the point cloud as the deliverable. You can now take a point cloud through processing just using open-source software. And all of the scanner manufacturers provide free viewing and editing software as well. By the way, I really enjoyed the animations on your site.
I have never understood the fascination with point clouds over workable and more realistic vector and raster environments. I know a lot of people with point cloud data who cannot edit them or view in real-time. All they have is a pretty animation. High resolution photography processed with good photogrammetry software gives you fewer points, greater realism and something you can actually edit and view interactively, without requiring expensive software and hardware.
Well, because it's not graphically intensive, why not just put all the computing power left on the characters and everything that moves? then you would have an ultra realistic game world.
That something is logical to listen to - assuming you don't know how the thing works. The reason some point cloud renderers are very fast with seemingly large amounts of data is that they have lots of the same thing (or a few things), and it's all in a nicely packed array that's easy to render. You can't change a single piece without recalculating that whole array (which takes way too long for realtime applications), and you can't change a single piece relative to the next one.
Scan resolution.
I NEED a Leica ScanStation C10...
to think that people began to master point clouds from that to seamless in every way but shadowing
Er... Why are we still using polygons, again?
There's nothing wrong with being a little optimistic.
OMG euclideon did that.. Im praying to jesus.. to get that for christmas...
I'm wondering about some visual artifacts I noticed in this video. It happens on some surfaces and resembles z-fighting. What is causing this?
/watch?v=tiwgUO18PY8&feature=related
Correct. By asigning points as groups you can move them and animate them. And because of their nano-size ypu can have destruction and animation down to a human hair level or even smaller...
What matters is how well computers can deal with vast amounts of data. This goes for voxel data just as much as it does for polys. With voxels and without polys, certain things become simpler and a bunch of things become harder to achieve.
@BudzMcgr33n Let me tell you, Euclideon has only showed a little Demo based on how every piece of model has real geomitry and full its shape, Animations is their next demo pretty soon.. Its also save to say that Realflow can be used in combo with Unlimited Detail technology..
@Arteanor 9 years of development and nothing interactive yet to show or share to the public. They really suck at game programming.
@BudzMcgr33n when games had so little resources you were right... multicore gaming has thrashed your argument to pieces. and euclideon is proving it.
Would be some dope Battlelfield 3 maps!!!
CANT WAIT TO GO! XD
This is what Euclideon wants to give to the World of Gaming..
why am i sweating.. because i cant wait for games with this tech? ... -.- =)
@soylentteal good thing its worth it (no pun intended)
WHOAH
They didn't mention how overpriced the place is.
looks exact to me
so fun
Yes it is, soon we will release a larger video of the entire sub. Glad you liked it
Very cool. Is this the sub that's over at OMSI?
