What I traded my GR Corolla for...
มุมมอง 34วันที่ผ่านมา
I made a few comments that people seem incredulous that I traded my GR Corolla for a Turbo Diesel Landcruiser, and so I present thee this, equipped with barely more than base options, a Turbo'd 3.0L IDI, and in a rather rare Stellar Blue Pearl, my 1997 KZJ95 Landcruiser Prado.

UAZ's only have 8 gearboxes and since my UAZ is basically New Old Stock with only 3,000kms on it I figured just due to age I should probably change the gearboxes oil, so I did and did not have much of a fun time. But the UAZ sounds much happier now so it was probably a good thing I did.

Fixing the worn ignition in my Sambar

The Sambar I own had a worn ignition lock and a broken key in the door, I decided I would start with the ignition lock since its the easiest to get to. Though when I do get to take the doors apart I'm going to install power locks, power windows, and insulation. As well as tint the wind...

Sambar Fuel Meter/Fuel Sender Replacement
มุมมอง 892 ปีที่แล้ว
Replaced the "fuel meter" in my sambar today as after removal from storage it consistently read low after refueling, by a good margin too. So sure enough after turning the car on after this replacement ( probably the easiest fuel sender replacement in history on a car ) the needle went up two needle widths on the gauge.

@@robertsantiago3102 I went to a Toyota dealer and wanted a AWD manual Toyota. This is all they had so that's what I bought. I didn't even know Toyota had a performance division till I owned this car. So honestly it was far more educational than expected.
Obviously the screen is a voltage issue is a cable being pinched or is it an electric break that looks like a regular on to keep the masses happy I know e breaks even manual ones still use small bits of electric for sensors but when combined with headlights and the upgraded fog lights might create a small surge just like when you roll window up that last click before washing does does to some car’s instrument panel
@@christophermccord3757 Now I can’t say for certain but Id hope that manufacturers now would use shunting relays, which should prevent that surging. But the screen dim was present before the fog lights being up fitted and occurred even without the headlamps on, and when I say screen dim, I dont mean the back light to the LCD, I mean *THE* display, as in the panel itself had an issue with voltage. I see HMI’s and HIM’s all the time at work with backlight issues, but this display issue was very much the display, not the back light.
Dumb thing to check is if your in eco mode because it makes most cars save on electricity like fan power ac coldness and other things besides the whole engine power curve other wise I'd say check fuse maybe a tech put wrong fuse in wrong spot or fuse is hanging on for dear life but about to die and still looks good at a minimum I'd buy a new fuse if it's the correct one just to be safe and see if aftermarket GPS is wired in by dealer or Toyota if the ones under dash get loose they can create power issues there's a vid on TH-cam how to find it
@@christophermccord3757 well not my circus not my monkeys, I don't own the GR anymore and I was not about to go exploring whilst it was under warranty. I do work with PLCs and electrical equipment as my primary job so it's not like I can't touch it, more like shouldn't. We can speculate all day if it's a supply or grounding or impedance issue, but we'll never know since it's somebody else's problem now. This car is definitely not looking like the best daily driver. Sure it's fun and all wheel drive but 90% you're not trying to race or speed around corners. The interior or your everyday use is pretty much a regular toyota. I'm looking forward to the 2025 gti.
@@wendellmarasigan4028 all I wanted was an AWD manual Toyota, and that is apparently too much to ask for in the US market, so traded it for a Prado, it's AWD manual Toyota, and it's a Turbo Diesel. Never knew I needed a diesel till I owned one.
Why don't you drive fast?
@@jasonjacobs8343 As Ive gotten older Ive just become less interested in getting there sooner, and have found it to be more relaxing to follow the speed limit.
@@jasonjacobs8343 thinking back on it as well, a coworker who previously built high performance race bikes, pointed out since I never reved the engine high enough to spool the turbo the combustion chamber was probably going to have excess carbon build up, and that was one of the serious points as to why I decided to sell the car.
Generally, I'm just a bit confused on this overview... While I know you don't own it anymore, I wanted to give some impressions as an owner on what you said. Electronics first since it was such a big part of your overview - I simply think something is just wrong with the electronics of the GRC you owned. I have a '23 CE and have not had any of the issues described - my handbrake doesn't cause the dash to dim, my engine starts (and never first goes to accessory mode) if the clutch is fully depressed and brake is depressed, my hatch buttons have never been an issue (left is unlock then unlatch, right is lock), and the audio system has never cut out aside from CarPlay issues. I also noticed TPMS warnings when you started the video at 3:50 (which you attributed to spare tire?, but I would assume is actually because you switched to all seasons and didn't replace the sensors). Regarding the hatch release and lock button, I'm wondering if maybe the battery in your fob was just dying or possibly it's related to the other electronic issues? On the GRC forums and reddit, I don't recall seeing these issues mentioned before - I 100% believe you that these issues were occurring, I just also believe it's a "one off" issue. Regarding the issues on your phone connecting - in your case, you could have possibly tried to unpair your phone either in the GRC infotainment or your phones bluetooth (so it would "stop trying to connect every minute"). I have had issues with Carplay when I tried to use wired CarPlay after pairing wireless CarPlay, but if I exclusively use wireless CarPlay, I have no issues - definitely an annoying bug of the car but there are workarounds. Just as general remarks - I don't really understand the overall review. Did you view it in person before buying? Test drive? Not question why it's $10k more than a top trim Corolla if you weren't aware it was performance oriented? You mention "you aren't into sports cars" recognizing this isn't something you'd like, but also mention you somehow didn't realize it was a hot hatch? I just dont really understand. The lack of trunk space is a common and valid complaint - the FK8/FL5 CTR, Focus RS, WRX, and Golf 7-8.5 GTI/R all have much larger trunks, and this has been a common sticking point in many reviews. I totally acknowledge this sucks, and I've personally been looking into replacing the load floor with something custom made so it covers the battery but leaves the remaining space open. I also completely recognize the GRC has a ton of flaws (and I feel spending an hour of looking at reviews and threads about it will show this), but your experience just seems really odd. I truly am curious how you got into this without realizing it's a hot hatch that would let you down in fairly basic ways... As an aside since I saw you mention this in the comments - modern automatics are generally more efficient than manuals. In years of old it was true manuals were more efficient (in the 4 speed auto days), but since the days of 6,7,8,10 speed autos, manuals have lost their advantage. Just as one example, ( and while EPA reports are different) you can find Elantra N manual owners getting 32 MPG manual, and 37MPG auto on the highway.
Ok so thanks for the long comment, tackling your points, TPMS: I do have a full size spare, present tense as I still currently have it, and at the dealer I did have it programmed, the tire pressure display, for some reason with all tires present, would have shown up at 14:49 and it had 5 positions, and it did show all 5 tires. As for the phone: I just never really cared enough to unsync it, with the screen off the message pops up I acknowledge it once and then it stayed off, typically. As for not knowing it was a hot hatch I very specifically just went to Toyotas website and sorted by AWD, and manual to find a car, and this was the only option. I went to a dealer ordered one and just didn’t think about it, waited 8 months it came in, bought it and then drove it off the lot. It wasn’t until a friend of a friend, while I was installing his dashcam and we had to run to get fuse taps, made me aware these are a limited production car, and a street legal track car at that, and thats when I looked more into this whole “hot hatch” thing. Didn’t know it was a thing to be honest. As for the automatic, well Ill take your word for it as my only experience with a newer auto was a Ford Interceptor Utility and the 6F55 in that thing *royally pissed me off*. WHY DO I HAVE TO RESET THE DATA SHIFT POINTS TO GET BETTER FUEL ECONOMY?! THE WHOLE POINT OF ADAPTIVE SHIFT LEARNING IS TO GET BETTER FUEL ECONOMY BASED ON DRIVING HABITS!!! Tangent aside Im not very impressed with modern automatic transmissions and vowed I would not repeat that mistake, hence why manual. I suppose the long and short of it is that on paper its a AWD Manual Toyota, everything I wanted for my next car, but in its details is where I was let down. I have since bought another AWD Manual Toyota, but learning from this I bought a Turbo Diesel Landcruiser, its still AWD, Manual, and a Toyota, but the specifics of it fit my life better.
Opps forced him to review the car with the shiesty on 🤝 good review, I’m excited for the 2025. I borrowed a 2024 circuit edition and loved it.
I learnt more about your personality than I did about the car. Darn I watched the whole video so your quirky style (no pun intended) worked. Lol
The headlights on all of the corollas are genuinely awful. It's impossible to see in wet conditions and the pattern is shit.
I was honestly appalled the first drive in the dark with it, not only that but the auto high beam drove me nuts, it would turn off the high beams when approaching signs, or some edge road markers so I just kept it off. After putting in the JDM fog assemblies it was much more tolerable driving at night but far from the best.
@@USSRDragon I was as well, i have the 2023 XSE so i have the same headlights but no fog lights unfortunately. Been looking for aftermarket headlights since i got the car so i can drive safer. And idk if you have noticed it but the windshield wipers are also very slow.

Yup, next fillup it read on the full line. Additionally before committing to a meter, you can try contact cleaner on the terminals and check that the wires are not broken/incorrectly terminated (Ran into that on my UAZ). Its rare but I could see from its location corrosion on the terminals causing the same issue.

Well he was in the right lane since McCaslin Blvd, which was 4 miles behind us at this point. Also he took 4 miles to close a 8 car length gap between us, and he paced me for about 6 minutes, as it says equal with my b pillar, you only see the last 1 min of that sped up. Also note I am speeding. An upon hitting the speed drop he proceeded to continue at 50/53 without slowing down, which in CO 24mph over is a Class B traffic offence with 3pts on the license. Saw a close call at this same intersection last summer. Car was exiting 36 to McCaslin right where this car cut you off, only they yielded to oncoming traffic. Car behind them thought it was a continuous lane, locked up their brakes and almost rear-ended them. They then proceeded to honk and rage at the car for stopping. They had no idea that the car stopping actually prevented them from causing an accident. They would've just plowed on through like this jackass did. Glad you were able to avoid colliding.
