Certain aspects of this book seem illogical. Even in the beginning. More people should have heard something since it was a hot summer night and they presumably slept with their windows open - excuse me, but wasn’t air conditioning probably common on an affluent L A neighborhood in 1969? Also, the neighbor kid who next morning was “warming up the family car”. On a warm summer morning? And the young kid that was murdered (Steven Parent) - he had asked his mother to “lay out clean clothes” for when he came home from his one job / an 18 year old who doesn’t pick out his own clothes? Maybe the author was old school where women are supposed to wait on male family members hand and foot. I was 14 in 1969 and if I had asked my mom to “lay out clothes” for me she would have said “do it yourself!” And the Parent family, worried about him not coming home, went out to eat on Saturday night - who could eat?
