Humminbird Mega360?? Its complicated.
มุมมอง 20K4 ปีที่แล้ว
We look at the differences in the older model AS360 and the new MEGA360 Sonar. Differences in concept make the new sonar a more complicated choice for some side-scan users. As a sonar search diver, my uses are different than for a typical fishing boat. I look at the pluses and minuses of these fantastic sonar units. Both are good at finding shipwrecks and lost treasure.

I have read that (per Hummingbird) all you have to do is turn off 360 ping in the Helix and the back transducer will work for SI. So Just lift it up, turn off ping, and go. Reverse (obviously) when ready to use
Did your screen say "mega 360 not detected"?
I like the SI GPS mark feature. ❤

Cool. Still waiting for the follow up video 😂
HI Mister mega360, I have one Unit Helix 8 MEGA SI and one Mega360. I have make my self one switch for boot transducer and this run good. I need only turn OFF the unit when I whant change the transducer SI to the mega360. I use the SI for long distance, and when I find one interesting Spot I use the mega360 for more details with the boat stop. The dufficult is to find two cable 7 pins for use connectors, after I had one switch for the Left and right SI signal, and one pin using for identify the mega360 to the unit. If you are intersted I can make a little diagramm for my switch. I apolopize for my English level, I don't speake fluently Best regards of Switzerland and many thanks for your video Mac Giver
I’m not sure which transducer he used, but I have a HawkEye transom mounted transducer and if you have an all fiberglass area on the bottom with no wood core (or a thin aluminum boat from what I recall), you can epoxy it right in after knowing it works and running the boat around like shown. They say to only use slow cure epoxy with theirs. I did the same thing on our Yamaha jet boat because I didn’t want to go with the through hull fitting (and cutting the hole 😮). Only got the depth gage after going to the St. Joseph River in Michigan because areas get quite shallow and it’s nice to take the Yamaha out to see these changes each year before taking our 40’ boat with a 3 1/2 foot draft.
Amazing!
it looks like you installed a transducer that is meant to be on the outside, but yet you mounted inside. I am surprised it works. Am I right and is it still working?
Will you be doing a video on the water, I’m still not sure if you set a speed for this sonar, and there’s a few other little things?
Hummmmm I would like to figure out how to do this right on my boat lift.
How about down imaging which we also have on our unit, any insight in to the 360 degree down ?
Can I glue the transducer on my 10 foot aluminium boat?
How did you ground your 360?
Crikey, I honestly thought I was the only one who had the 'part two' of every job I did. I have got to feeling I am stupid, accident prone, unreliable and a poor tradesman, but seeing a person I respect (you) doing the same is incredibly uplifting. Unfortunately for me, you have the excuse of trying to film installing an epoxy item, and that means big trouble for any normal person.
Genius idea for bubble-free epoxy!!!!
I have the rear mount 360 that has been damaged by tree branches , the head cover got torn off . The body and bracket is intact. The unit worked the last time I used it but I don’t know if it working now. You probably could use the part with what you have now. You interested??
Where can I find the advanced video that you referenced? I’m interested in the best SI settings.
Hello. Can you Google raymarine dragonfly 5pro, do you know if i can install it inside the boat also ?
Amazing video. I just got the non mega used and it didn't come with instructions. Do I plug the the ethernet cord to my hub and just find it and mark it checked on my helix for it to read?
Wow! That’s nuts! 🤩
Pico is so cute! Research boat was so cool! Can’t wait to see what treasures you find. Jared is a genuine amazing human being.
Sorry I was unable to find the other video for the SI settings you referenced.
What specific transducer you used?
I am also asking
Side imagining is useless on a trolling motor
Good info. just starting to look into sonar and good info on the use with the y cable and how the 360 works.
A year later... Is there any way the transom mount AS 360 transducer can be removed, and the M360 attached to the transom 360 pole? With wires run as needed. That puts the M360 at the back of the boat, yet one is not physically pulling it up and down all day. Thoughts?
Lost my go pro 9
I’d love to higher you in California
Is this transducer still working? Did it overheat?
Why, do they actually get noticeably hot?
@@Tampo-tiger I am still considering the inhull mount. In my research I have read that some transducers need to be in a liquid. I have read several comments claiming that transducer failed was due to running them out of water for long periods. But, you know how things are represented on the internet.
@@kevinmoney4112 Yes, such a great source of information, only half of which is accurate! I certainly have wondered why people add anti-freeze or oil to the inverted cup sitting against the hull. It seems that no material with air bubbles in it can be used, which seems to make a bit of sense.
That’s stache royalty right there
Actually, It probably cost more like 200. I forgot the cost of the 18th inch wire. Whoops! Still cheap though...
Hello. I follow another search and recovery channel @samsamtheadventureman in Tacoma, WA and @adventureswithpurpose in Bend, OR. They need volunteer divers in Chehalis, WA to recover a young man who drown 11 days ago. Divers are meeting with the boy's father Monday 4/5/21 to coordinate a search plan. If you or any diver friends are available to help, please reach out to Sam at the channel above. Thank you so much for reading this. --Kim
Thanks for the video. Im a kayak bass fisherman and I don't move very fast I plan on getting the mega 360. Been using a Helix unit for a few years and do a ton of studying I love sonar too its some times more fun than fishing. Found a small airplane in a local lake the sherrifs sunk to practice search and rescue.
Thanks for the comment. I hope you watched the next one I did where I said I really love the unit. I wasn’t using it correctly at first. What is the airplane very obvious? When I found airplanes ( aluminum ones) They didn’t have a very good reflection but I could find them by the shadow.
@@underdogdive3948 oh yeah this thing was very obvious
Thank you for the video. What back of hand flash light are you using?
Thanks for the comment. I use the sola 1200. I really like the sola lights. They’re made by light and motion. I’m not always super good at using the wrist strap on my left hand. Sometimes I wish it was on my mask band. It’s just not intuitive, but maybe I need more practice.
@@underdogdive3948 Thank you Archer for the info on your underwater light setup.
Thank you for sharing a practical application of side scan sonar
You are welcome! stay tuned for new content...
How would you mount the transducer on a zodiac boat? What would you suggest to mount the helix 10 in the boat? i would use this setup for search and rescue dive team work.
thank you for the search and rescue info. Can i get a diagram of your aluminum mount that pivots for the transducer?.
Great video thank you. What transducer do you have? What size battery do you use for the sonar?
Great and helpful video! Know when you’ll be able to get part 2 done?
did you find the battery
I am definitely looking forward to being able to add the 360 unit to my boat next season when I can finally get my hands on one. Ive been using the side imaging to locate points of interest then deploying a underwater drone to go snoop around before diving. The 360 would save me a lot of time roving the bottom which can be problematic with all the sedimentation that occurs on these lakes. Fewer chances of snags etc. So i appreciate you furthering the information on this. Have a great day!
Thanks so much for the comment. It really has made my searching better . If you have a general idea or something as you can even use it on 360 spin mode as you motor slowly around. Trying to get to something in lowvisibility with just side scan is tedious and maddening.
Awesome video and Artwork! I found your page via AWP, now I have a second favorite TH-cam diver page to watch. I'm fascinated by the exact same things as you... I only wish I learned to dive myself so I can do some of the underwater explorations like you... but at 44 I'm to old. Do you ever sell any of your art? If you do can you direct me to where I could purchase some? Thanks and keep up the awesome work.
We just bought a Lowrance HDS7 Live.. Will these set ups be pretty much the same?.. Your video is very informative and we thank you for doing this...
6:18 Gear Aid Aquaseal to the feature! Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter
I am a fisherman, but find your videos most informative. I was most grateful for your video about the 360 Mega deactivating the transom side image. One point that may help others in this tutorial is that the current track info can be erased in case you are starting a new search in a previously visited body of water. Just so the new search isn't cluttered with old, useless data.
I think the record screen is important
Just subbed. Came over from the fisheries boat recovery. Great video. Did you really donate that $85000 boat to adventures dive team? If so you are amazing. I wish you so much luck with your life and dives!
Something that's never talked about for the 360 is it will ALSO run SI too, I just figured this out on my 360 after owning it for a year. Your the first guy I've ever mention this fact
I would like to know did your Mega 360 come with a mounting bracket attached for either an Ultrex or Fortrex trolling motor? and if so was it easy to remove off the shaft? I want to mount the mega 360 as a stand alone on my bow connected to a Helix Di G3N. No other transducers.
I bought thr cheapest one and never used the cast aluminum part. Be aware that the different mounts come with a different length shafts.
