"Pokémania": 1999 MSNBC Pokémon News Report
มุมมอง 192K14 ปีที่แล้ว
As a child, watching adults try as hard as they could to understand what made Pokémon appealing to children and fail miserably was possibly the funniest thing ever. As the approach of Pokémon: The First Movie became imminent, MSNBC took it upon themselves to explain "what all the fuss is about", and they accomplished this by having Ira Gallen on the show to advertise as many Pokémon products as...
Vitsie Dinosaurs (Part 3 of 3)

This part is mostly unnecessary, but I have to include it for the sake of completeness.
Vitsie Dinosaurs (Part 2 of 3)
มุมมอง 15K14 ปีที่แล้ว
This part contains some very bizarre errata that I unfortunately repeated to many other people as a child. I've pointed out with annotations all the information I now know to be incorrect; please inform me if I've hypercorrected anything or missed any misinformation ("Dinosaurs didn't wear bibs" doesn't count).

If you're Steve Lomas and you don't want this video up here, please contact me and I'll take it down right away. This video was a pretty big part of my childhood (and a great piece of edutainment much more fun and informational than most children's videos of this sort) that is no longer available anywhere and my VHS is still in surprisingly good condition, so I felt I have a duty to archive it ...
Back to the Past (Full, Unedited) Part 2 of 2

Bunny Steggy and Honey Steggy are clearly the same Stegosaurus. I'm not sure who she thinks she's fooling.
Back to the Past (Full, Unedited) Part 1 of 2
มุมมอง 3.3K14 ปีที่แล้ว
A story from a set of dinosaur-related cassette tapes I owned as a child. They are no longer in print or even available anywhere used, which saddens me as most of the tapes from the set are missing, apparently gone forever. The cassette tapes were full of songs, stories, stories with songs, and songs that told stories, all of them about dinosaurs.
The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Toon Disney Promo #1
มุมมอง 105K14 ปีที่แล้ว
Toon Disney is the ONLY place you can find Sonic the Hedgehog! You might even say he's the... DRAG racer of Toon Disney!
The lady saying its a good for social interaction is so GOATED for that. In hindsight she actually was spot on compared to the "Psychiatrist" LMFAO
Dude at 3:00 knew absolutely nothing and had no right trying to sway people's opinions
Prismatic evolutions pre orders are getting resold for 3x the price. Yea it's most certainly well into the shopping season in 1999
Gotta love that toy guru who roasted the psychiatrist on air. You don’t really get debate like that on TV anymore.
And 2 generations later it's still huge
So surreal to see this after all this time. They really just had no idea how big it would be. It's a juggernaut beyond almost anything else in games or entertainment.
I love that this dude doesn't even know how to pronounce "Pokemon" yet he is here to sell you everything that he can while the anchor tries his hardest to have a regular conversation. True dedication
You know the saying, "You either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain". If you at any point in your life find yourself criticizing popular children's toys, your hero stage is over. You have become a villain.
I want that talking pikachu 😫
26 years later and still going strong..
I like how Tom Brokaw specifically talks about 8 year old's obsession with this show. I was 8 in 1999.
It's crazy how it still hasn't ended. Now, Pokemon is worth almost 100 billion dollars. It's more valuable than anything Disney has created.
Struggling to be seen as normal indeed!
I was a kid 7 years old in 1999 and i never saw Pokemon as violence it's just a cartoon a cartoon about Ash who meets Misty and Brock who join him on his adventures. They help people also.
1:26 a wild Karen appeared.
Pokemania is runnin' wild, PIKA!
1:34 Tuh?😂
25 years since Pokemon mania
Imagine if they didn't ban Pokemon cards at school when they first came out. I remember that period of time trading cards at recess as one of my favorite memories.
Imagine not living in a free country, is all I can say.
Some of the lines here have aged like milk though I guess we can't blame them as hindsight isn't always 20/20
Isnt life so great. Im my mind this show was great
70k calls per minute!? Crazy….
"Experts"
It’s absolutely crazy this thing not only blew up and was insane as a young kid in the late 90s, but that it had so much staying power that the 90s kids grew up with it, fell out, the later millennial/gen z caught on during the 00s, the 90s kids grew up to have kids who are into it and it’s the biggest IP in 2024, and there are multiple generations of people who fell in love with this franchise. Absolutely is nowhere near its peak beginning but it’s become Star Wars for the 90s and on
pokemon isnt going anywhere
Ahh yes, parents saying it’s violent brain rotting causing bullying. Damn parents can’t evolve. 😂😂😂
They let him sell the topic they’re opposing
"How long will this fad last" Looks like 2019 was the official answer
I had the pokedex!!!
2024:
Wait til this guy hears about AKIRA…
Poke men 🫠
2024 i cant find a pokemon emerald cart under 600$
Gens 1 & 2 are the best. Gen 3 is when the series begins to bore the hell outta me.
Pokeman expert
Haha! I was born in 1981 so was already a partying teenager when Pokémon came out. I was, and still am, a raver and back then I would wear a Pokémon themed outfit to underground rave parties. My fit included a Pikachu hat, shirt, and a giant plush Pikachu! I would strap the massive Pikachu to my back by wrapping his tail around my chest. I'd dance around with Pikachu listening to techno EDM and tripping on acid or rolling on ecstasy. I also watched the cartoon and still do!
Pokemania Happened In 1999 But 35 Years Earlier The Beatles Had A Mania In 1964 At Least Pokemon Doesn’t Have Screaming Fans Unlike The Beatles
He has to struggle to be normal...
Yes, something is off about Ira. I wonder if he was outed and did jailtime.
wheres the blonde chick at now days?
Dr. Carol "shouldn't let kids have anything to do with Pokemon it's violence!" Also Dr. Carol "Watch disturbing children Disney shows that teaches racism and violence." People who grew up with Pokemon: Compassionate and kind caring people. Its 2024 and Pokemon is stronger than ever.
Furby! 😂😂😂
Pokemon is still amazing
Oh I so remember my parent bringing me and my siblings to the theater just to see Pokemon the First Movie and all the theater rooms literally had Pokemon the First Movie and seats were packed with us kids. 😅😅 It was so packed parents had to sit on the floor or just go outside and I do remember getting some popcorn and many parents outside. It was such a awkward moment.
How long itll last? 25 and longer so far X-D
“Turning the playground into a black market” I CANT-💀💀
Is that mean Pokémon is getting thrown the window😭😭😭😭⚡😡😡
Pokémon craze was insane in 99 2000
Lmao stupid ass psychiatrist
"How long will this craze last?" "...year and a half..." 😂 Laughs while watching in 2024. "Adults won't get into this." 😂 Watches this wearing WooLoo pj's...and I'm an adult!
Actually, he was right. Pokemania died down in the early 2000s. It was never as popular ever as it was back then. And when he is talking about adults, he wasn't talking about the kids who are now adults and had grown up with the show
Happy National Pokemon Day from MSNBC 💛🧡❤️💜💙💚
