Hey! So when you start combat, you're supposed to grab one card from the enemy deck (per player, in this case 1) and then add the enemies at the bottom of the enemy card listed in green to the same row. So you should usually be fighting multiple enemies at once. Also, it wasn't clear to me in the video, but when you get a card reward, you draw three cards, then choose one of the three to add to your deck or skip adding, you don't add all three. Also in the video game you DO discard your hand and reset your energy between rounds. There are relics that allow you to keep your cards and store energy but they're rare.

You probably know the correct rule now... But the target adds an additionnal wound if and only if you put a wound on the enemy. So in your example the target has no effect.
You mean on 1:20 ? market attack on enemy with shield - the attack hits the shield, so the entire attack (including the marked extra) gets applied to the shield, not the enemy. In other words, the enemy itself is undamaged by that attack. It is more or less described in the FAQ which was not available yet at the time of filming this. The FAQ (as of today) is very much incomplete on other aspects, and SM seems to be somewhat comatose, of simply flustered about their own rule holes. The best we can do is consider on particular corner cases, various resolutions and choose one on the spot to move on. In the end it such rule interpretations would even out across multiple runs. SM should have opened a Discord to discuss rules in a more productive fashion, but it is what it is.

I also have the cardboard standees. That cardboard trick you mentioned is a good one. I’ve played against the first 4 bosses so far before shelfing it to be played later. I really enjoyed it but this is one I’ll be playing with my game group when we finish Frosthaven. As a solo player Controlling 4 characters (even though using them as companions is very easy.) isn’t something I necessarily enjoyed.

I made all the hexes from leftover black printing paper and used painter's tape to put them into place and sold it as it was. Buyer was extremely happy, and reported it helped him a lot. This was a solution that occurred to me naturally, because I hate round things on a hex grid, and you will find no such thing anywhere else lol. Oh and I read the full story of course before selling. You're in for quite a treat. Story is a very good for a board game. And there are puzzles in the back of the green book. No peeking though!

At 2:05, I noted you placed the blue cubes in the Action Point (AP) pool. Blue cubes are *not* AP markers; they are temporary defense modifiers.

Any other viewers… I would *not* recommend deviating from the tutorial to explore. Most encounters are balanced for two Guards. A sole Guard will likely die all too quickly.
It's your product and nobody forces you to follow, it's not a video game.
At 10:41, when Combine is flipped to Rema Blade, there is no way to trigger the [Empower] keyword on other cards, at least not without *spoilers*. Rema Blade needs to be flipped back to Combine to provide an [Empower] trigger.

At 9:59, the *presence* of the Combine card does not activate [Empower] for all the other cards with that keyword. You have to *activate* Combine in order to then use the [Empower] keyword on *another* card, but that other card does *not* need to be activated in order to use its [Empower] keyword.

Your Skill Tree legend is wrong. The colors have nothing to do with levels. Levels are indicated by the number of dots below each checkbox, per the key on the sheet itself. For what the icons mean, see the rulebook under Skill Trees, pg 40 (1.5 ed).
The explanation on 10:10? In my version same-tiered skills had the same color. Maybe a newer version doesn't have that. Note that this is the kickstarter version from a year ago.
Oh my, at 7:29, you finally note that you can start exploring per pg 19 (1.0 ed). Note, this is because the *tutorial* is complete. Tutorials need to keep new players on rails in order to slowly introduce game mechanics. Suggesting that players start randomly exploring during the tutorial would just lead to confusion for those new players.
100% agree about what a tutorial should do, but I don't remember any mention of the term "tutorial" in the rulebook. The point is that if you follow the text, you will have almost no chance to gain loot from the chapter 1 enemies. You would in particular be missing out on metal fragments, but could even travel to the far west. Due to the poor typesetting and lack of highlighting. But again, books may have changed, this was the 1.0 version.
At 5:17, because folks are still in the tutorial, I also disagree that you should “jump off the rails”. That chance is given to you after the tutorial is complete.
Is it called tutorial in the new book? That would be even more misleading, because you'll be missing out on ch.1 loot.
I disagree with you at 3:27. Folks are still in the tutorial at this point and should follow the instructions. You are free to explore per the text after the red “Tutorial is now Complete” on page 17. Not before. The end of chapter is not reached *until* you get to node 102.
Where does the book say "tutorial"? You start in chapter 1, with a chapter 1 world. There is a phase with Grigory alone, that is useful to go explore, and the point of no return is under-highlighed as such. Then there is a phase with both guards, still in chapter 1 world, and again it is under-highlighted how far to stop reading (at least in the 1.0 rulebook that came with the ks) before you unintentionally trigger chapter 2. If you think about it, why else would there be so many encounters on all the nodes for a chapter 1 world in the index? If you were not MEANT to explore as much as possible? Chapter 2 onward, there are no chapter 1 enemies in play. Books 2-4 have different guard pairs with different starting nodes, but even so, it's suggested to go explore. Explore and battle is the entire core of the game. But the second ks has rewritten rules and books, so things may have changed although I doubt that the core system has been touched. I hope you'll enjoy the product!
Around 0:55, you ironically cover up the paragraph that says you don’t end chapter 1 *until* you reach node 102. So your highlighting the subsequent paragraph that describes what happens *when you reach node 102* is ill-timed. You have as much time to explore as you wish, in chapter 1, before going to node 102.
IIRC there was no clearly written mention that you "can explore any node except 102, and once you trigger 102 the story moves on". The text should have highighted all such points of no return. Everywhere, on each book, before the end of each chapter.
At 7:50, you mention that green Action Point (AP) cubes are discarded. This is not correct. The sections in the rulebook for both Guard and Enemy dashboards’ Action Point (AP) Active/Exhausted Area specifically state green action cubes are “returned to the supply *after the battle* [emphasis mine].
Good point, this game system uses "discard" and "discard area" as key game terms for chips, and not for cubes.
At 7:24, you state the [Empower] keyword is not defined anywhere. Look at the rulebook under the Guard [Keywords] and Base Stats section (pg 57, 1.5 ed).
Good to know this is fixed in the 1.5 version! The team clearly is passionate about their product.
At 6:27, where you say that “active” is not defined in the rulebook, that’s not true. Look at the first paragraph under the Guard Ability Cards section (pg 37, 1.5 ed) and fourth paragraph under the Sonebound Ability Card section and example sidebar (pg 38, 1.5 ed)

With both Guards in Chapter 1, you have the ability to gain green Action Point (AP) cubes. That would be most players first or second priority in combat. If you find yourself “starving” for AP midway thru combat with only the two initial AP markers, that shows that you might not be leveraging combos effectively.
Good to know that the game was improved in the 1.5 version. I was still learning the game here, I got better later.
I have to mention that, at 9:20, where you indicate that after you meet Alek and “must go to chapter 2”, that is not correct. After you leave Fort Strazh, nothing forces you to head directly to node 102. Page 17 of Campaign 1 states that “chapter 1 ends *once* [emphasis mine] the Guards reach 102.” You can explore and farm as much as you want during chapter 1:11.
nothing forces you, but it could have been emphasized a little more in v1.0. Especially for ppl experienced in reading "narrative games" it's easy to overlook. There were many reports from players regretting to be in ch.2 and wishing they could go back. Hopefully your 1.5 version prevents that.
10:00 blueprints from tiles, don’t go to Collector but to top of Equipment I think. Collector only holds looted blueprints in custody. Not 100% sure though.
I don't think that first treasure tile was a check The rulebook a check is a green square with the plus sign your symbol under the treasure was a green scroll with a crown I think when it's saying is that the first tire takes a green scroll automatically.
6:40 Thanks, you're correct! the + sign, and the crown confused me. - I guess the criterion for a Check is a black rectangular background; for a bonus it is white. - And a check is not on a tile, you already entered that room; - checks are on corridors (with an alternative corridor as well, otherwise you would be stuck in the biome in case you failed).

11:45 the vg implementation does first fill doors then pay with 2 cards. Paying after the action is clearer when you hit the staircase. The rulebook doesn’t really care what order you do them, but it’s better I think.

For a "wandering in a Finnish forest with spirits" theme there is not enough story. For a DB/pattern recognition solo puzzle there's more "theme" to it than expected. No didn't enjoy the weird Finnish terms - impossible to remember. The rulebook is a chaotic mess, but I restyled it and stripped out the weird names. I'll give it another try soon.

Dont worry I dont remember the patterns either. But I know that I purposefully made the pattern on the back something that is very hard to deal with if you put it in a place where the good pattern is most effective, and the good side of the pattern usually cant undo the damage of the bad side of the pattern. So i keep that in mind :). I am glad your sister enjoys the game too

Yes 30 chars for offline is the max. I don't know the max for online chars since I didn't play online. I tick off the item when I find it, and I kept only the most powerful versions (for feeding my iron golem in particular). When I find a better roll equivalent I swap it in and sell the older inferior one. I upgraded all Sigons to Exceptional, and most other set/unique as well. My full sigon exceptional (with pdiamond larzuked in shield) javazon is doing nicely in A2 hell. I'll probably larzuk the rest as well. After I find enough runes I'll upgrade the items to elite. Probably a second sigon set for my bowazon as well. 30 characters is enough for practical use, I used plugymod before which had unlimited storage space, and eventually you can't find anything in such a huge amount of stuff. For Switch: ========= 2 builds per class for variety -> total 14 slots 7 classes -> 1 mule for items restricted to that class -> 7 slots. 1 mule for runes 1 mule for charms 1 mule for amulets/rings (optionally 1 slot for hardcore) total: 25 slots Leaves 5 slots for messing around and hold sets/uniques/GG. If you get them each a cube and merc that's quite enough. The philosophy of the game is to make choices, after all. I also compiled a game guide for D2R since it didn't exist and I wanted something comprehensive on my phone for offline use ♪ In the end, it's not the #chars that limits, it's the 2x 14 = 28 Larzuk that limits it for switch. The 3rd Larzuk is way too far into hell, and for mules it's too tedious to get a Larzuk.

It comes with the download from itch.io automatically. And it doesn’t fit the tuckbox as you can see (which comes from Bgg) so you need to print the tuck box in 110%. I'm rewriting the rulebook (obviously the designer's version doesn't work) and when done will make another video following that.
Cards should be rounded - so in the end I used a kadomaru pro on the product.
Thank you for making this video. I hope you enjoy your experience in the Deepwood. It can be a bit imposing at first, but once you learn the main systems, it goes pretty smoothly. When KO you roll your dice and resurrect at 1 health on any doubles. Then you (probably) roll all your dice again to get the dice to allocate as normal. I’d add an additional die per level, of your choice. Also loot should count per level. A level 2 monster should count as 2.
