Bolting and Meshing an underground mine heading.
This is where the jumbo operator has finished scaling the heading to remove most of the loose rocks. He then manipulates sheets of mesh, 2.4m wide and up to 5m long, into position with the jumbo's boom(s). He then drills holes and 'bolts' (pins) the mesh onto the rock surface with a variety of 'rock bolts', measuring from 900mm long, to 3000mm long (generally about 47mm thick). My job is to train him how to do this, especially when using different and new bolts, that he might not be familiar with. This guy is an artist. No names, as we are not discussing which mine it is. I wrote him a nice report for his boss!

Scaling an underground mine heading.

Jumbo operator using the jumbo to scale down a heading in an underground mine. This is a method of removing loose rock, so it does not fall on someone later on. Very important! See my other video for an example of Bolting and Meshing, This is where I work, down the hole!
Driving in the snow in Tassie last week.
มุมมอง 30712 ปีที่แล้ว
Driving to work at 4:30 AM last week. Sorry about the swearing, if you're a bit sensitive to that. Bit of a funny at the end, as one of my passengers has the nickname 'Frosty'. Followed the trucks tyre tracks, as the road was 4 inches thick with snow, then another inch under that of ice. I tried to overtake him once, using the uhf to communicate, but the ute tried to turn around, even tho in 4W...

Flood crossing near Axedale, Victoria

During April 2011, we had a bit of rain around the region, so a few creeks and rivers flooded. We went for a look, and decided to have a crack at crossing this one, near Fosterville and Axedale, in central Victoria. Bit of fun.

    Broo that is not proper scaling it's very big risk for machine and individual around positioning angle of boom should be at least less than 65 rambert to scale from firm to weak ground

    Basically the nipper goes under unsupported grounds?

    • @allanmarmont8651
      @allanmarmont8651 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true you put the mesh and bolts up where the nipper has to walk first. The boom can be turned back towards the cab so he is under supported ground. Unless you have an inexperienced jumbo operator that doesn't know what he is doing or doesn't care about his off sides safety.

    Bro next time you want to scale always put your boom on a 60°angle and scale from good to bad you will never have unnecessary breakdowns imagine you are using a pinch bar to scale down can you do it in that way?

    Is that a miss hole right there in the middle? Torturing the steel. Beating the crap out of the drifter and shell. There's better ways and scaling off the muck pile isn't one. Rattlibg the back with the jumbo gets loose down we'd never have gotten down with a scaling bar. Hard rock like this, it gets the job done if there's no scaler in the fleet. I'd think flattening out the shell quite a bit would do the same with out getting so many rocks down on the drifter and feed.

    Reece, when I worked underground, we used a scaling bar which has a tip much like a crowbar. Shove the point into a crack and pry the rock loose rock. I thought it was one of the hardest parts of the mining process.

    • @MrPhatNOB

      It’s standard practice at our mine. Part of the cycle. Mechanicals scale, bolt/mesh, gewi, bore.

    • @pablosepulveda1582
      @pablosepulveda1582 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The equipmet to do it is a SCALER, a jumbo is for drill production or development... at last use a retro with hammer but not a jumbo... think about the time of production valorized when jumbo is out of service or used to scale compared againts the real work to do in tons per hours loosed because loosing time
