Thai Isan was and is Lao people that happens to live in Thailand. Around six to seven hundred years ago. Thai Rama Kings don't like to use the term Laos because these people was living in Thai territory so he change the name from Lao to Thai Esan. Centuries passed Thai Esan lost their identity and thought they're really Thai. But you're not, your blood line is of Lao descent, eating same Lao food, same music, same language and same dress and style. It didn't help that the French drawn up line and partition some of Laos land to Thai border. Look up your history and don't forget your roots.

People from the Esan region are ethically LAO separated by hundred years. But relatives from Lao/Esan go back and forth so there isn’t really any permanent division. Strange how Esan and Lao can understand each other but Thais can’t understand them.

You guys can stop arguing. Thais, Isaan Thais, Lao people all come from the same place. have the same ancestor In the past, the Tai Kadai had no boundaries. After that, there was a gradual division of government. Isan people (speaking with a Lao accent) have a population of 21 million people, while Laos has 7 million people. Everyone in the Tai Kadai ethnic group has a common culture.

There are some idiots Isan people still denying the facts about Lao culture had spread southward and westward over the Mekhong river to influenced the indigenous people of the northeastern region or Khorat plateau. Unfortunately they shared comments in Thai ! What an inferiority complex ! The truth must be very painful for them to handle.

Lao flag represents the lao and isan people blue in the middle to represent the Mekong river, red on both sides for all the blood shed during war and the white circle the moon/sun above the Mekong.

such wonderful music! I would love to play music with an Isaan musician some day. I'm surprised by how similar it sounds to Irish or American folk music.
