WE’RE BACK IN OSAKA, JAPAN FOR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR
Hey Diwatas, another travel vlog again. Went back to Osaka, Japan with my family where we spent both Christmas and New Year. For the first 3 days, we visited Osaka Kaiyukan, The Links Umeda, Shinsaibashi Suji Street, Dotonbori, Osaka Castle and Hanshin Department Store. This time, my other sister and her family joined us so we are finally complete for the holidays.

Excited to see the revival movement progress as time goes by. You guys can join too! But let’s equip you with knowledge first. Registration for Beyond Filipiniana is still open until September! Wow that must have been so fun! Question: maninipis yung mga tela natin, how many layers did it take you to feel cosy but still precolonial?

The song is actually from a Filipino (an Ilonggo from Iloilo to be exact). This is for those who don't know about beabadoobee.
I'm surprised! Thanks!
Where did you get the baro’t saya po?
may i also add the ff: - traditional ancestral homes (similar houses exist throughout southeast and southern india) - tapa (spanish loanword but is actually a marinated jerky of pre-colonial origin) - cured ham (cured hams exist) - baro't saya and barong (modestly tweaked to fit colonial aesthetic. The full form, components, and tailoring are pre-colonial by design.) - parol (star lanterns were used for all souls day-like festival held in pre-colonial pampanga; such lanterns also exist in neighboring southeast asian countries though vary in design.) - pandanggo sa ilaw (hispanized candle dance. such dances exist in indonesia and malaysia). - longganisa (new evidence suggest that sausages existed long before colonial era. aside from the pinuneg, sausages exist throughout east and southeast asia with flavors and ingredients greatly similar to ours.) - structures made of stone and bricks (aside from the traditional ivatan stoned settlements, contrary to popular belief, large kingdoms throughout the country do tend to have fortified stone walls mixed with wood, the city-states also have sturdy structures paved with stone roads. stoned canal system exist to control flooding and for transportation; continued to be used and re-route during colonial era. barely found nowadays due to urbanization) - liempo and lechon kawali (dishes similar to neighboring non-muslim asian countries, varies in ingredients similar taste) - fiesta (pre-colonial way of celebrating that got christianized, replacing old gods with saints). i could go on but im kinda burnout from today's activity, sorry 🥴
Tapa/Kapa is fabric made from plant fiber/beaten bark. They have it in Polynesia as well as we are their ancestors.
Grabe kahit malayo kitang kita yung kinang ng Gold fabric and Gold accessories ❤
Did you know that we are distant related to the Ka Dai people? Their ancient homeland was on Taiwan where they migrated from to mainland Asia. Die to heavy influence from Sino Tibetan, they changed completely…

We should revive those clothes instead of Maria Pendeja aka Maria Clara or Traje de Pendeja aka Traje de Mestiza.
There's definitely room for both. Precolonial clothing is just really underrepresented.
@@quen_anito For me the Maria Clara or Traje de Mestiza should be vested to the Filipino Mestizos only that's what it suppose to be.
@@carlag.9914 Idk what you mean by Filipino mestizo. Afaik, Filipino and Mestizo were different castes during the colonial period.
@@quen_anito Filipino Mestizo means an local native Filipino with Spanish descent.
@@carlag.9914 Ok, I see. The problem is that during the colonial period Filipino referred to people of Spanish descent who lived in the Philippines. It was only during the Katipunan period that the natives began to use "Filipino" to describe themselves as popularized by José Rizal. And then comes the term mestizo. During the colonial period, this referred to prominent native families. People who had significant power over the colony's industry and agriculture, and owned land. They usually descended from the local nobility. So the terms Indio, Mestizo, and Filipino during the colonial period were not racial terms but social castes enforced by the law. Although the Spaniards were racially motivated when deciding how they would socially structure the colony. They had to decide the roles first, and worry about race later. So when they codified the caste Mestizo, many of the local merchants and nobility fit into this caste. These families where then incentivized to undergo Cultural Hispanization in order to retain their lands and titles. Now, when it comes to the garments worn by mestizos during the colonial period, these were mostly native garments that were adapted to be more like garments worn by the Spaniards. But even the Filipinos (Spaniards) adapted their clothing to fit the climate, especially in terms of material.

Wanna bet 100 pesos the way they're portrayed in art was created by foreigners? hehe (ofc no offence)

@@nahiadiwata8599That's the sad part. Colonialism is insidious like that. It's changed the way we see our own mythologies

where did you get the clothes from?
I'm on the mission to study our culture during pre-colonial centuries, mainly because I have a ton of characters who are, well, like us, haha. This video is very well-informative, I thank you for your insights, ma'am.
Also may I say, what a gorgeous outfit you've worn in the video! ^^ Now I question our modern fashion choices when our ancestors have a different kind of beauty, aha!
Thank you truly for this video. I am planning to write a story regarding this setting. Well, I'm inspired by the "Amaya" teleserye, so year I hope it will turn out well😂.
Ohh it has been years since I last watched that show, though I remember nothing but fondness for it. And keep writing, good person! I believe in you! ^^
Essentially those are Malays influence attire ! And Stop claiming it as "Bisayans attire" and keep sugarcoating historical records to fits your claims XD because At the same time your people Bisayas and Tagalog keep insisting and refusing to accept the fact and historical records that this archipelago was once ruled by Islamic royalties which essentially are Malays in culture . You guys are just weird and born with contradictions XD
Bro that’s literally like saying “Philippines was colonized by Spaniards so that means all the traditional Filipino clothes are Spanish not Filipino” 🙎 girl- cultural identity is still present and garments evolve and change from ethnic group to ethnic group, it truly is valid calling it Bisayan attire because they evolved from the Bisayan people obviously with foreign influences mixed in🤯
Kinda lacks Gold but yeah that's Roughly it some of the outfits kinda resemble the Mindanao Themes
Pre-colonial? The islands were colonized several times before the Spanish arrived - including by the Austronesian people themselves who colonized the islands 3000-4000 years ago.

The history of our ancestry of the Philippines will repeat back itself to this new modern era, but it will be more fascinating these times and more imagistic to look at.... Actually from my personal point of view, perspectively speaking, we Filipinos have had greater connections with our fellow brothers and sisters living and striving here in ASEAN or the ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH EAST ASIAN NATIONS... Can't u see by navigating our previous pasts lives from our ancestors before those European powers came over here, WE ARE REALLY LOOK LIKE THE SAME. From head to toe... The style of living, hunting gathering, trading goods. And even our fashionable accessories both men and women are still incarved deep within our roots alike😘. Together let's make our ASEAN REGION MORE FASHIONABLE BY WEARING AND REVIVING OUR ANCESTRAL GENES BY CULTURE COUTURE MALAY GARMENTS....very iconic and unique compared to European countries.... Not to mention we even look hot and sexy aside from our cultural and ancestral looks.... Ganahan jud ko Ani mga butanga.... Maka proud pilipino og proud ASEAN....❤❤❤❤ LOVE LOTS gayud... Tangkilikin natin ang sariling atin... Hindi naman tayu mga banyaga at saka may originality naman tayung mga Pinoy diba... Japan nga na maintain nila mga geishas at oirans nila tayu pakaya....just saying🥰😍🥰🥰❤
Thank you for making us proud of our tradition ❤
