Dahlia Tour - Flower Field Walk Around - August 2024
In my last video I highlighted my Top 10 Dahlias, but I thought it might be helpful to do a walk around the Dahlia field to chat about all the varieties I'm growing this year.
As always, drop me a comment and let me know your thoughts - what's your favourite? What are you growing? What should I try and add in next year?

    Nice to see you again. Fostering is a wonderful thing to do. Here on the Sussex coast, it basically rained from October to April (left in my dahlias, most rotted), Half of my allotment flooded, then we had a cold, dry spring which went on till mid June. Things were therefore planted late, and then we have had slug and snail apocalypse. I planted a bed of snaps in March and they have been fantastic. So not a great growing year but getting ready to get ahead with hardy annuals. xx

    • @Angie_P
      @Angie_P 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OriginFlowersNI yes, very hot and humid. This year was one of the hottest ones I've experienced. It can get cold for a few days in January or February but it's relative. What your body reacts to is the drop in temperature. During winter months one day can be in the 30's and the next day in low teens so the change in temperature is what makes it feel cold where as if it was further up north the lower temp wouldn't be a bid deal.

    Really good tips and great to have a UK TH-camr! However, I think there is probably a big difference between cut flowers for weddings (which only need to last a day or two) and those for the vase? I'm not a big flower arranger, just want to cut a few perennials from the garden and know they will be minimal fuss, and last for at least a week. And I find foliage difficult too as the stems taken from many shrubs wilt really quickly. I would LOVE a couple of videos focussing on foliage (and tips for longevity), and long lasting perennials for the vase.

    • @OriginFlowersNI
      @OriginFlowersNI ปีที่แล้ว

      Brilliant, yes absolutely they are picked at a different stage for weddings as the flowers need to be more open. I will do a foliage video. What a great idea, thank you!

    I’ve only recently found your channel and I’ve binged watched your videos! Absolutely love what you’re doing there and really inspired to collect seeds and start growing my own flowers in my small garden. Hoping I can pack a lot into my relatively small space. Thanks for sharing great advice and knowledge 😊

    Love the idea of gathering seeds from so many flowers.
