Basics About Patter Flying | Fly With Shubham | Patter | Instructor Rating
So today we are talking about the basics of patter flying and its requirements in India. A short video about what we will be discussing over the next few videos.
Patter flying is basically training as an instructor. It includes ground classes of 20 hours, followed by 20 hours of flying from the right seat with a patter approved CFI on the left seat pretending to be a student.
It is a mandatory requirement to become an instructor in India, and also the first step towards the same.
Followed by an AFIR Oral exam with DGCA, and then recency requirements if any, or the AFI Check Flight (A test to see your competency as an instructor).
Let's see what it is in detail!

This AFIR cost is sponsored by FTO or self pay
Self paid mostly. Unless until you're on contract with any organisation
Is it possible to do this alongwith the CPL on a single engine after 100 hours as PIC.
No. Patter can only be done after completion of your CPL.
Is it possible to do it along with the CPL on single engine after 100 hours as PIC.
can i become instructor on Multi engine with CPL on single engine ?... plz reply
No you cannot You can only give instructional training on the aircrafts endorsed on your license. Also you will need to do RHS training for the multi engine aircraft, for which you need to become a FI. So essentially to give training on the multi engine, you must have it endorsed on your license first, followed by the RHS training once you become a flying instructor.
Pls tell what is the syllabus for pattter flying
What will be total cost to instructor rating?
For patter, cost for 20 hours of flying on the per hour rate depending on which flying school you join. On average 4 lakhs for patter only. Additional for the AFI check and miscellaneous costs

Sir I have cleared tecnam single engine then Cessna 172R. I am planning to do my training on 172 but I gave that exam after tecnam. So the validity of 172 is 5 yrs or 2.5 yrs?
Nah. The validity is 5yrs but as I said, dependant on which aircraft you get your cpl license on. Essentially all tech speci papers are valid for 2.5yrs if you don't endorse that aircraft on your SPL
Bro where can i check dgca exam validity in egca portal please help me
In egca portal, you have to update your computer number in your profile. But I don't think there's a place to check validity of the exams in egca. It only comes when you're applying for the issue of CPL license
This is a very helpful video. Thanks for explaining so well!
Most welcome! Glad I helped ✈️ Happy landings!
290 - 180 equal 110 simple lol
Exactly! But sometimes in tense situations, it becomes difficult to calculate. It's just an easier tip for beginners! Rest it's your choice whether you want to use it or not. Happy landings!
@@FlyWithShubham likewise
Sir I cleared my papers in 2018 how long my papers going to be valid I have foreign CPL do I need to convert it within 5 years
Your exam validity would be shown on the EGCA portal, but now they've changed the rules and the validity does not apply to the papers as far as I'm aware. You do need to convert the CPL within 5 years otherwise your foreign CPL will expire and you also need to fulfill the requirements for the conversion such as PPC within 6 months and IR if you need it on the converted license. Rest, the best is to check DGCA website for latest Conversion requirements.
Your video is informative but your going way to fast to follow, you need to slow down and take time to explain please
What is the validity of DA 40 paper
The validity of every specific paper is 2.5 years if you take it as an add-on. If you wish to take your license on the da40 aircraft, then it's validity will be 5 years. Any other aircrafts other than that will then be of 2.5 years validity.
please let me know that what is Validity exactly, and what happens when it is over, like if i become a pilot, so do i have to give these exams every 5 years to maintain its validity?? Please Help me ASAP With this enquiry. Thanks!
The validity of the exams has been removed all together. So you don't need to worry about the validity. Secondly, once you get your license, you need not give the exams again to maintain the validity. If you don't renew your cpl after 5 years and it expires, then you need to give the exams again.
Thank you!
290-180= 110 245-180= 065 No need to make long computations like the -200 and plus 20…
The computations aren't long. Surprisingly many people have issues in calculating +-180 degrees in a complex situation in flight, that's why a simpler method with simpler values is used in many many places
If I have a type rating on a320..do I have to do IR check on a A320 sims or can I do it in any aircraft endorsed in my license
You keep your IR current on the highest category aircraft. Let's take an example:- You're 320 rated You need IR renewal If you get the renewal IR on the 320, then automatically you're IR current for all aircrafts of lower categories endorsed on ur license. If u do IR Renewal on c172, then you will be ir current on c172, but can't fly the 320

Great job Shubham, very well explained.
Thank you Sir! ✈️
What is the validity ? How to renew??
The validity of multi depends on if you're endorsing your license on the single engine or the multi engine. If your multi engine is an add-on, the validity is 2.5 years. If your license has multi endorsed, and single add-on, the validity is 5 years. A multi renewal is done within 6 months before expiry, with approximately 3-4 flights. That's Fam, Day check, Night check and IR Rating check if you wish to renew your IR on your multi.
Could you make a video on IR renewal and aircraft endorsement. There are many people who are still not clear with them. Thank you ❤️ keep up the good work! 👍
Absolutely! Thank you :) ✈️
What to do if generation permanent computer getting delayed even after 45 days by DGCA
Currently due to the covid situation, Delhi is under lockdown since Mid April. Could be one reason for the delay. But anyways you can call the CEO office in RK Puram and enquire about the status of your computer number. Their contact details are available online as well as on the Pariksha website.
Thanks ❤️😊

You mean, how to apply for dgca exams? Will work on it once I'm back✈️
Explained nicely , great work doing 👌
Thank you! ✈️
I didn’t understand why you added 45 + 20 to get the inbound course? And if you did it to get the inbound course, then the final inbound course will be shown on the approach plate right?
So once you make a 45 turn from your current HDG (for example 200 radial outbound) and turning to the right (245 HDG), you fly as per timings based on your aircraft type on 245 HDG. After that you have to make a 180 degree opposite turn so that you can intercept the radial 200 (020 CRS inbound) The crs becomes opposite since you're now going inbound. To calculate the 180 opposite of 245, the formula (+200-20 or -200+20) is given to make the calculation easier. So 245 - 200 = 045 045 + 20 = 065 065 HDG is your inbound HDG. But your final inbound course is 020. Then the needle on the HSI or CDI starts to move and you slowly turn back to intercept the crs 020 inbound. Secondly, yes the final inb crs is always shown on the approach plates. The approach plates have all the details. Look at the approach plate as I've given in the video, it shows the procedure turn as well as the final inbound course
One more thing to note - The procedure turn consists of HDG changes only The CRS is the radial on which you are going outbound, and the inbound course is the 180 opposite of that outbound radial. 45/180 turns are just HDG changes. When turning inbound, the CRS will always be changed 180 before commencing the procedure turn (as per the HAT and 5T checks), but the radial remains the same.
