Picked up a virtually mint condition of this record whilst on holiday in Transylvania. Marvellous playing. Tempo correct for both pieces. Interesting that you have transcribed it via a Thorens deck similar to my own. Your version on U Tube sounds much clearer than when played on my system!! ? I guessed this may have been released about !960. Nice one anyway.

Das ist die perfecte Interpretation dieses Stückes. Wie einmal Jiri Reinberger sagte: niemand kann dieses Stück as Plattener spielen. Er hatte recht gehabt. Es is so viel Gleichgewicht in dieser Interpretation zwischen Tocatta und Fuge realisiert, dass es sehr schwer ist, es nachzuahmen.

Albert Schweitzer, un grand homme que les « média » les « mainstream » comme on les appelle semblent oublier totalement. Quelle bêtise que de ne pas célébrer cette grande figure de l’Humanité. Il fut unique dans sa démarche pour la généralisation des soins au Gabon, unique dans sa foi, son amour des autres, sa modestie, son sens de l’honneur, son talent pour la musique. Que son nom soit rappelé avec reconnaissance pour tout ce qu’il a fait de bien dans sa vie et que son âme repose en paix dans ce pays d’Afrique qu’il a aimé où lui et sa famille ont choisi d’être enterré. Merci à cet homme de bien.

Acum mai bine de 30 de ani ascultam această piesă și alte capodopere bachiene în magistrala interpretare a lu H.E. Schlandt. Mă urmăresc și azi Adagio-ul și finalul BWF564, sau Tocatta Dorică auzite în Biserica Neagră. De atunci, am ascultat multe din piesele auzite la Brașov în varii alte interpretări și puține s-au ridicat la nivelul la care Schlandt știa să exploateze orga. Un mare artist pe un măreț instrument.

Ist dies vor oder nach 1961 aufgenommen? 1961 wurde die Orgel grundlegend umgebaut, was einem Neubau nahekommt. Bei den bekannten Aufnahmen von 1952 war Schweitzer 76 Jahre alt, im Jahr 1961 bei der Einweihung der neuen Orgel (zu der er nicht zugegen war) war er bereits 81. An großen pneumatischen Orgeln kann ich Schweitzers Doktrin der Langsamkeit nachvollziehen: nur langsam kann man dort präzise spielen, denn bei schnellem Spiel verwischen die Töne in der Verzögerung der Transmission.

Horst Gehann my good friend and my first organ teacher before I was admitted at the Music Academy "Ciprian Porumbesu" in Bucharest where I continued my organ study by Helmut Plattner.

The best interpretation ever of this extraordinary piece of music. I've learned from Dressler to play Reger's B A C H. Personally I've played this music on the great organ in Hermanstadt too and in Germany in my organ concerts. My organ masters were Horst Gehann, Helmut Plattner at the Music Academy in Buchares and Michael Pohl (organist at Berliner Dom Church) at the Music Academy in Halle/Saale.

Believe it or not. that was Virgil Fox playing in a recording made for Reader Digest,
