Those are all fantastic ideas! And they work really well in Valgavoth, since he doesn't care how much life loss there is (unlike Ob Nixilis), just that it occurs. That would be a good way to differentiate the two similar commanders from a deck building perspective.

That is correct! Valgavoth doesn't care where the life loss comes from, so long as it happens to an opponent on their turn. So even if one of your opponents does something to make another opponent lose life on their turn, Valgavoth will get the +1/+1 counter and you'll draw a card.

His ability is very restrictive, there's no doubt about that. That being said, it is pretty easy to get atleast 1 damage to each opponent on each of their turns, since there's a ton of "upkeep, deal 1 damage to player" type of effects. So getting the max effect (3 triggers in a rotation) isn't too difficult.

@@goergerakly1496 i think he'll work best as a control/group slug commander with an option to go face rather than a dedicated voltron commander. With no other draw sources you are getting 4 cards a turn while your opponents only get 1 each so you could better respond to threats and keep the burn going. He never needs to swing just keep them in the oven while you turn the temperature up turn after turn. And if he draws remkval over your continued burn cards all the better as its a misdirect from the real theats on your board

It would be for the opponent who targets him. The rule text for ward states “Whenever this permanent becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter that spell or ability unless that player pays [cost].” In this case, the cost to the opponent would be 2 life.

Ob Nixilis is going to better in pretty much every scenario, but Valgavoth is a good alternative if you want to run something different!

This guy is a more agressive burn deck than ob. He isnt restricted to exactly 1 damage so you can speed up the burn clock significantly. And unlike ob the cards drawn are a mystery to your opponents. That said Ob is the superior voltron commander.

Ah you explain that at the end with the decklist. I wouldnt bother with expensive token doublers at all still because there are several really good panharmonicon style effects

That’s a good point. Panharmonicon style effects are likely going to be worth more in the long run than the token doublers.

Yeah there’s a ton of ways to build a fun Zinnia deck. I like the idea of Mondrak and Ojer Taq, that’s a great way to really snowball the offspring tokens!

Haha yeah, Anointed Procession and Parallel Lives definitely aren’t cheap. You could swap one out for Primal Vigor, which is quite a bit cheaper, or just forgo them entirely. They’re certainly helpful, but not required.

Yeah, that’s true. I tried to limit the combo cards in this decklist, as that’s not a strategy I find too fun. Don’t get me wrong, I love combos, it’s just instawin combos tend to be fun the first few times you do it, but gets old quickly. That’s just my opinion, however, so if that’s something that others are fine with, those are all great cards to add in.

That’s true, and I agree Crush Contraband is going to be better than this in most cases. So if you have access to white, I’d slot that in over Into the Core, but for something like mono-Red, this is a decent option.

I agree, this is most likely due to the case that it's about 2 mana per artifact exile which is bonkers value, not to mention its an instant at that. It's too niche imo for most cases tho, excluding the fact it has to be 2 or none.

Sacrificing one of the targets doesn't cause the spell to fizzle. As long as all the targets are legal when it's put on the stack, if any of the targets become illegal, the spell does what it can and still resolves for the remaining targets. It's the same as with Decimate. As long as there were legal targets on casting, removing one target does not counter the spell. This is different to spells like Aggressive Urge or Charge Through that only have one target. In that case if the creature becomes an illegal target, the spell is countered because there are no remaining targets.

As another person said, as long as one artifact is still a legal target when this resolves, it will still exile that artifact. So if someone sacrifices an artifact in response to this being cast, the other targeted artifact will still get exiled. You do need two targets to cast it, however; so if there's only one on the battlefield, you just can't cast it until there's another target.

I do think the fact that this is instant-speed is what makes it currently underrated. If this was a sorcery, it'd be pretty bad, but being able to exile two artifacts at instant speed, like when you're being attacked by them or if they're about to combo off or something, makes it worth it in some cases. I do agree it is pretty niche, like if you're in a heavy Darksteel Forge/The One Ring/Colossus meta, but there are some cases where it can do some serious work.

Yeah, it’s very niche. It can be a bomb in some cases and other cases does pretty much nothing. Very much seems like a metagaming type card.

Good point. It is a bit restrictive, but against the right deck this could make an opponent discard close to their entire hand.

@@CommandersSanctum i can suggest at least 2 cards that I strongly appreciate with Ygra : - Camellia the seedmiser that can loop as a squirrel/food generator - Overprotect, a nice new protection and trample instant

Good call! That’s a good one as well. It may be a bit hard to get up to 15 tokens at once, depending on meta, but honestly, even without that mode, the other modes are good enough that running it makes sense.

@@CommandersSanctum baylen, vitu-ghazi guildmage, two token doublers, and a single eldrazi spawn or scion goes infinite and halo fountain allows for you to have a definite way to win

@@CommandersSanctum The funny thing is, I think most people play Baylen wrong. She looks like an aggro or midrange commander, but she's actually a full control commander.

So colorless is universal when it comes to color identity. Even if there is no colorless (or generic) in the mana cost, you can use colorless mana lands or things that create colorless mana, like Eldrazi tokens or mana rocks.

Absolutely, it’s kind of like a Jaheira, just at a worse rate. But being able to get more mana out of the Eldrazi tokens allows for very quick and efficient ramp.

That’s a great idea! Quintorious would generate a ton of spirits in a Havi deck.

Completely understandable. While I don’t mind infect myself, I know it can be polarizing, so this would be the type of deck that I only play with my specific playgroup that’s ok with it. As opposed to bringing it to a game night or something.

Definitely, all the damager multiplier cards like Fiery Emancipation or Solphim, Mayhem Dominus would be great additions to increase the artifact tap damage!

Thank you! Yeah, killing opponents can be tricky sometimes. Most of the time my wins with this deck have been because of all my vampire creatures overwhelming them. Either that, or I exile one of their big powerful spells and use that to end the game. It can be tricky but is fun regardless IMO.

That's a great one too. I also like Damnable Pact, though that also costs X mana alongside X life, but it's a great way to re-fill a hand if need be.
