I thought up a great headcanon. Cross Guild raids Impel Down before Buggy approaches Shanks to declare war, Shanks realizes that he's outmatched numerically with someone who can equal him and the only two crewmates we've seen in action so far are Yasopp and Benn. So Shanks declares a Davy Back Fight. Maybe Mihawk refuses, but Buggy shoots anyway. Maybe when Mihawk and Shanks inevitably end up having to move to another island where Mihawk decides to make a deal with Shanks. In order for Mihawk to join Shanks, Shanks must defeat Zoro. There is no way Shanks doesn't know about Zoro's interest in Mihawk's title. Being a fellow swordsman, he should be interested in someone gunning for his rival.

i feel like if there will ever be an on screen fight with these two, it'll be similar to roger and whitebeard, i doubt it will really have one winning over the other but man it will be one crazy clash

I've watched 1045 episodes now and there are some arcs I really enjoy but none of the fights have been epic until kid,law,Zoro,Luffy fought kido. They could have been but the animation was just soookoooooo blah and the fighting just dragged on forever.
