What soil are you using? Sorry new to bonsai
I use as my base 50 50 akadama and pumice. Then I might add few things like bark or perlite things like that depending on the tree.
@@chrismarshall8321 thanks for your reply so do you always use this soil can you not use normal potting soils with added gravel for drainage?
@timsavage7886 whatever works best for you. If your trees are in small bonsai pots you need to have fast drainage to help growth of roots.
@@chrismarshall8321 thanks for all your help
I’m only just starting my trees are in big pots for growing I’ll consider different soils when the go into bonsai pots thanks for your advice
The Wall Looks very nice 👍👍 cool Projekt 💪🏼
Thanks! 👍
I think it is always exciting to harvest air layers! Free Bonsai! Thanks for the shoutout on my rooting powder and cut putty Chris!
@@notionbonsai thanks Adam
👍👌
Those are amazing air layers! I'd be jumping for joy if I had those roots!
@@fredberg1821 thanks
Great success Chris ! Im eagerly waiting to do my JM here in Melbourne Australia in late Oct..
Best of luck! With it
Fantastic results. Chris
Thanks Pamela
Its a great feeling making one tree into 4 😂 i have struck zelkova from cuttings last year so hopefully yours go well over the winter. Fingers crossed for a decent winter we never know what we can get 😅 all the best Chris.
Thanks Eric. You never know summer might even turn up late. Lol
@@chrismarshall8321 Sure look that would be no surprise 😂😂
Lovely job
Great to see some decent results on the airlayers. Cheers Chris
Thanks 👍 xavier. Fingers crossed now they survive.
Lovely job
Thank you! 😊
Hey, i dont have much experience with air layers, did you use just moss like most people i have seen, or maybe some additional soil or hormone powder ?
Normally I use sphagnum moss and a rooting hormone powder
Excellent work!
Wonderful work. Can't wait to see the eventual image. What did you glue the rocks together with? The big myrtle is a good match for now, while the sycamore/field maple develop. I love that field maple BTW - great little tree
Thanks.i used super glue and a spray I got online . I did show how in an earlier video.
Definitely the big myrtle. It even has the strong low branch
This is amazing! I vote for the maple
Had you considered coating the wall with live yoghurt? I know it's used to age concrete containers. I think the field maple or the last tree would be ideal, either way I'm sure you will make the right choice.. Can't wait to see the planting. Great idea looking brilliant already Chris. True artistry.
Thanks mick yes I know about the yoghurt idea but the actual wall is not covered in moss so I just want a bit here and there.
1st tree, then sycamore, once it's matured! My choice. Even if you have to build bigger wall? Amazing idea, it will look amazing, what ever you decide, 100%
Thank Robert
Looking great! Id vote for the field maple too
👍👌
The wall looks absolutely amazing, and I think the Myrtle resembles the original very well, until the Sycamore develops.
Thanks Pamela. I think your right
Great idea - I love the future composition. Difficult decision about the tree. Both look great so I don't think you can really go wrong.
Thanks 😊
What a nice problem to have, too many choices of trees!!!! Looking really good Chris!!!
Thanks nigel. Sometimes better to have less choices lol.
No words can say the beauty of this wall and tree together. A very tough decision as the the tree for this scape next spring.
Thanks tom
Those small food processors work nice for you with the moss.
Yes they do. Very handy. Thanks tom
Hard decision as to the tree for this setting. It will come to you when you least expect it.
Hopefully.
Wonderful homage! The trial of the two vandals is in December.
The wall looks great. The illusion of distance is achieved beautifully. Any of the trees work just as well. Artists choice.
Thanks steve 👍
I think the myrtle looks best!
Yes I'm thinking that too. It's more to the right scale also.thanks jay
The Myrtle most resembles the original so maybe that until the sycamore is developed more
Yes I'm kind of leaning that way.thanks
The field maple would look great.
I'd go with the field maple Chris they are closely related to the sycamore too and maybe in the future you can look at putting the sycamore in there. Either way it's your preference at the end of the day. The wall looks great 👍👍
Thanks Eric. Yes field maple is definitely one that I'm thinking
@@chrismarshall8321 the pot is nice also Chris, it's hard to find pots for landscapes like this in Ireland anyway.
Field maple, definitely more native to Britain, the green of the leaves really complement the moss
Thanks for your input jason
Fantastic looking scene ur creating think it will be class when completed well done
Thanks joe
Great little composition. When I saw it I immediately thought of the Sycamore Gap tree so mission successfully accomplished 👍 Today marks the one year anniversary since the thoughtless vandals cut this iconic landmark down. 🤬
Awesome! Thank you! I have the wall finished now so will be putting it in its pot on a video later.
You have an amazing collection filled with incredible trees...Well done and thanks for taking the time to show your work...Very enjoyable as well as inspiring...Sequim, WA...
So nice of you
Really nice Chris...Helps to be working with such great materials...thanks...
Thanks. They went that great when I collected them. Just twigs.
Wow, very nice Chris...I'd love to see your process building some of these Penjing's...
Thanks 😊
Great tree...How old?
No idea. I bought it about 6 years ago
Wow, really nice...Was this a collected yamadori or did you create it from scratch? Very nice subject matter and again would be a great tree to spend the afternoon with...Really enjoying your work Chris...Thanks, Sequim, WA...
Thanks . It is yamadori
Thanks for taking the time to videos this event Chris...Really nice offerings...Thanks for sharing...
Thats an extraordinary trunk with really nice movement and he mottled coloring really gives it the aged look...Another seriously gooding looking tree...I'm not generally a fan of Elm but this is really striking...The leaves seem correct to the proportion of the tree...I feel fortunate to have stumbled on to your channel Chris...Looking forward to working through all your videos...I agree that black wire is so much more subtle...Wow, your trees just keep getting better and better...A really nice root over rock...I'd love to spend an afternoon studying it...A very strong composition...
Thanks. Nice to hear your watching all my videos and enjoying them.😊
Really nice Penjing...I like the rough look as it looks much more native in its composition...So many forest scenes are overly manicured and don't come off natural looking...This offering has a really good balance of rock, moss and trees and the slab just takes it over the top...The moose looks great but a wolf would be killer...Well done...Thanks for sharing...Sequim, WA...
Thanks. I normally swap moose for a bear now and again but maybe I will get a wolf 😊
👍👌
Only recently come across your channel but each of your trees I love the styling decisions. Great trees. Ever done a bench/ garden tour video to show you collection?
Hi David. Thanks and yes I've done a few bench tours. You can find them in my playlists .
Hi Chris, will be interesting to see how the development of that lower branch goes over the next few years. The rock must make it heavy no? Lol
Yes it's a bit heavy but not to bad. Maybe when it grows and fills out more I can style it .
Excellent work on this SP.
Many thanks!
Great video Chris nice tree mate 👊
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks
Lovely job
Thank you! 😊
