89 didn’t seem to have the same feeling as 84. Of course 84 was a special year and team plus it was the first since 45 but it just felt different.
Watching on May 17,2024. Just because.
I think baseball was a lot more exciting back in the 80s.
So cool! I was on that Deerfield Team! #55 Tandy. lol! So cool to see this video!
it happened 34 years ago tonight, and on a Tuesday. on Sep 26, 1989. It's Tuesday Sep 26, 2023, Cubs take on the Braves, the #1 team in baseball right now down in Atlanta.
I remember watching this game at home in Montebello, California when our cable subscriber had Superstations WTBS-Atlanta and WGN-Chicago in our cable package. Always following the Cubs, I was over joyed to see the Cubs wrap up the NL East Division in 1989. Living in Los Angeles, I was so hoping to see the Cubs to win the Pennant over "The Hated Ones" a.k.a. the San Francisco Giants. But sad to say, the Cubs lost.
I'm not going to no bar! Lmao
Rick Wrona
Dunston could FLY
HE LOOKS LIKE A MAN PLAYING WITH BOYS!!
HEARD ABOUT THAT KID FROM CHICAGO THAT PLAYED WITH GARNETT!!!
WHERE DID THEY GET THESE SORRY ASS ANNOUNCERS FROM ??? PRE SCHOOL SUBURBS!!!! HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT BASKETBALL!!!!!!!
HELL NO LETS GO ADMIRALS!!!!!!!!
28:41 - Harry Caray...has...eyes.
Montreal as a ball club was dying....the move to Washington was inevitable.
Such a different Mitch Williams than the one we'd see in 93.......not as jaded yet in his interview post-game
46:20 mark was also nice
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ can you please send me the apolytikion of the Holy Apostles in English
you could of at least showed the other sides fans.
Great interview!
Kids in 8th grade these days are doing what Ronnie was doing back then as far as dunking and its not that impressive when you go back and look at him play..you can see why he had no shot of making the league even before the injury he was lazy on D and couldn't shoot
He avg 32 15 5 4 4 in one of the best high school confernces in the country. Go look what other high school players came out 95 and 96 around the country and he was at all the camps to. You werent there hahahah
Rip demarcus johnson
maybe he was so overrated bcuz he was playing in chicago? cuz he sucks to me. there have been so many players in il who are better than him.
He was lazy on d and couldn't shoot and terrible fundamentals.. alot of kids now a days can do all the dunks he was doing and even better..I've seen 8tt graders do better dunks..i don't get the hype either
Bro wtf you talking about times has changed back in the day you barley saw high school kids doing what he was doing and Chicago is a top state In basketball was back then still Is now... #1 ranked in the country for a reason
@@Nando-kh5mg please please stop. i think you should recheck the rankings from his senior year. nationally he wasnt the clear cut number one player...but even if he was thats not all the end all be all...these so called rankings get players wrong every single year. i stand by what i saw in this video...ronnie was a horrible overrated player. go and watch the state championship game his junior year vs harvey (wit KG)....another poor representation of the so-called number 1 player in the country. and they lost. news flash...ronnie wasnt the first kid in high school that could jump out the gym, and he wont be last. he was not a good "basketball" player.
i am sorry. i really am....but this was one of the worst high school games i have ever seen. Ronnie fields was ridiculously overrated. He couldn't shoot. couldn't dribble. no position. only 6'2. low basketball iq. i think i read someone in here say that he was the best player they ever seen.....then you havent seen many good players play. he's more mythology then actually a good player. other than jumping over high school kids...what the hell was he good at.?
DALLAS RICHARDSON!!!WOW SOUND LIKES A HATING NO PLAYING SON OF A BITCH!!!!! WHAT HE WAS THAT MUCH BETTER THAN YOU!!!
At what??? Better than me at what? Watch the game…he wasn’t very skilled. There’s been 50 players better than Ronnie fields from Illinois alone. Sorry if I hurt ur feelings. 🤷🏿♂️
Dallas Dickhead Richardson!!!! THE game on you tube he dominated those no playing cowards without giving much effort!!! They were totally scared of him!!!! Hmmm he scored 24 points without trying!!!!! That looks pretty good in my book!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU LOOKING AT!! DUMMY!!
He avg 32 15 5 4 4 in one of the best high school confernces in the country. Go look what other high school players came out 95 and 96 around the country and he was at all the camps to. You werent there hahahah
@@thestraighteight9974 i dont care what he averaged in highschool. im watching this nigga play. this is film of him correct?? the film dont lie. super athletic. thats it. low iq player. cant shoot. ball handling limited. low intagibles. and hes only 6'3 on a good day. he sucked. there has been waaaaay better players than him coming out of il. this was more hype and propaganda than he actually was a good basketball player.
Remember this Monday night so well. Had this exact coverage on VHS at one point but not sure I do anymore. Thanks for posting!
Artie: Wow! Great flash from the past. I’m guessing Steve is 2, Viv 6 months and I am celebrating my 11th birthday. It’s 1954, an auspicious year when our family made our first trip to Florida...to The Regent Palace on Collins Dr. In Miami Beach...in a black and yellow Plymouth Belvedere. Thinking we were a taxi, people often tried to flag us down. We befriended Greeks from Georgia who spoke Greek with a drawl. Yes, that’s Mando in the film, and she probably has a Manhattan, too. Re my tie...I’m sure it was from Saks where Mando was head of the Children’s Dept. For yearly school photos, I was always the best dressed. Evie in the film is Mabel’s age. Two sophisticated 8 year olds.
Kim: 1) Is it weird that Steve has a formal leather banded watch at age 2? Maybe no weirder than Artie wearing a tie at his 11th bday party? Also, no surprise that Steve appears to be already reading with ease at 2 years old. 2) So is that Renee in the crib? It is the textbook example of what NOT to do in today’s parenting manuals. Thick, suffocating bumpers, bars large enough for an infant head’s to get dangerously wedged, and some rough handling (was that Mando? Likely she figured the girls could handle it…she would have never done that to the boys!) 3) Also, little Evelyn looks EXACTLY like big Evelyn
Viv: Maybe 1954 because Artie's Birthday is in January (or Feb?) That means it's your eleventh bday, Artie and Steve is 2 (?) And looks exactly the same! Never saw this, like Mondo's stylish outfit!
Evie: I remember the treat of traveling to “Stella’s house” which seemed far into the suburbs. In reality it was several miles away. I caught a glimpse of Uncle George sipping his Manhattan, the mainstay beverage of that era. Those days, captured in silent films, were so great!
Him and his daddy died in car crash
SAD NEWS TO HEAR, BLESSINGS TO THE HELDMAN FAMILY,AND BLESSINGS TO YOU AS WELL, STAY SAFE IN THIS PANDEMIC!!!!!
I was raised in that church. I love you father Bill.
Was there ever a more poorly representative stadium for a city than the Big O in Montreal? A magical city that oozed a unique and distinct feel compared to the rest of the continent, games from that era of Expos baseball did anything but hint at the fun and adventure of Montreal.
Ronnie was playing like he was bored. Even we did that 360. He was playing like he had other shit he could be doing.
I love Sosa
I was too young to see this live, but good God do I miss Harry Caray!
AMEN TO THAT
Haven’t seen this since I watched it as a 10 year old in Chicago. I remember staying up late to see the end and then not being able to sleep being too excited. Fun season! Went to about 10 or 12 games that year.
Thanks for uploading!!! watched the entire thing with a huge smile on my face. Such joy
no one has googles on like a pussy, either
btw the BEST cubs uniforms, right here...no debate
huntand 100% agree .... the Wilson/Rawlings pullover away jersey will go down as the greatest Cubs jersey ever.
Beyond the blue pinstripe home unis yes these were great
1989 was the last year the Cubs wore those road unis. The next year, they changed to grey uniforms.
holy piss, les lancaster had a glorious mullet
The title says City-Suburban. Might as well say Black vs White Showdown. I played against Ronnie and KG and when I say Ronnie could’ve went to the league as a Junior in High School I’m not over exaggerating. He still needed to be polished but he would’ve been just like Kobe coming into the league.
Kobe is 6'6" ...Ronnie was great in high school, but could he even measure to D Wade. Ronnie was the best high school player I seen live, but not sure because of his height, coud he do the same thing in the NBA at 6'3".
Nall fam... kobe was almost 6'7" and was a way superior player.. ronnie couldn't shoot or dribble at a high level. He was super athletic and probably not better than corey magette
Lol. Fields could jump, but he had a bad handle, couldn't shoot, couldn't create his own shot and wasn't especially quick despite his hops. He was also only 6'3". He's a great high school legend, but that's where it ends.
He was ranked higher than Kobe at one point. He was different.
@@turtlehead2 Lol. In the 10th grade🤦
Never saw this game. Listened on radio. Thanks for the post.
McClendon is already looking like a manager
Awesome video! By any chance do you have the 02-03 GBN v Zion Benton super-sectional?
I was in the clubhouse when they've clinched in Montréal. We had several pennannt won in Montréal over the years, but the Cubby's one, remains the best ever. They even send a camera crew with me when I bought the champagne for the clubhouse...I'd die to find these footages :-)
Claude J. Lavoie that’s awesome ... Any Cubs memorabilia from that day??
Rip Matt heldman
DID MATT PASS AWAY, I PLAYED AGAINST HIM IN 94 WEBER HIGH SCHOOL, SUPER SECTIONAL GAME AT NORTHWESTERN!!!

I'm not sure if anyone will every see my comments, but this is Very inspiring. I am the Parish Council President and the Chairman of our Future Planning Committee, for our newly named Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church (Loudoun County, Virginia). We are 10 years young and hold services in a small commercial space that we lease. Your story is our story. I can't wait to share this beautiful story with our congregation to let them know that we too are in God's Hands.
Like "bust a move" by Young MC the cubs are clinched division champs!!!
