Hey, so this is going tobe a bit of a long comment but I felt like sharing. I was never dignoased with DID/DIS which sounds like what you may be alluding too...? So a disclaimer that im not digagnosed and im not a medical professional. And I'd definitely say I didn't experience as severe symptoms either. But I have for many years struggled with constant/almost dissociation and a lack of identity as well. It was so bad that I fundamentally lacked most of my memories for years. It was scary and frustrating, because every time I thought I could remember a defining moment of why I ended up this way, lacking not only purpose but also personality at all, it seemed like by brain would shut the door on me leaving me in an empty white room again. I'm saying this, because many years later, now, I feel like I'm finally a person. These issues don't go away. I still struggle at times with staying grounded, which is huge problem in life or death moments. And I still sometimes feel like I'm just a broken machine, but now I realize I'm not. Sometimes I still wonder who I am, but now I see it more as more a sense of discovery rather than pure emptiness. I can't claim that I can fix you or anything obviously, but i wanted to share my experience as i thought it may lend you a bit of hope. For me personally, one day I realized i was empty and decided to create myself, just as it sounds like you are trying to do. I realized that the first step was getting out of survival mode- far easier said than done. Just trying to feel safe enough to step back into my body even for only 30 seconds at the start, even just that short, to prove for a second that it's fine. It's fine too to have setbacks too and fail those 30 seconds, it's a long process. It sounds like youre doing the right things, expressing, therapy, and trying new things to see if you like them. The three things I can say as someone ehos struggled is, try to feel safer and get out of survival mode, you're doing good. Just above all, don't give up hope. If you believe youll never get better like one of your therapists said, then you won't. It's a self-fulfilling prophesy. I can't say it'll be easy, I can't even say you'll *definitely* win this. But I honestly... I really do believe you can. And... here's a reminder. I'm not sure if it'll help, but i think it would have for younger me. You want to be someone, right? That's... a desire. A consistent desire. By definition, if you weren't a living feeling being at all, then you couldn't want that. I'd say by it's nature being a desire, it proves that you are a person. Could it be... a part of you? Only you can decide. It's just the first piece. There are so many more, both to be discovered, remembered, and created.

I dont have the disorder but I kind of get it. I feel like my artstyle isnt rlly me even tho the moment people see it they know its mine, and also about me ofc. im not sure if I know who I am or maybe I do?? im an inconsistent person so yeah. and I see you and hear you ❤ it must be hard to realize you have to fight this struggle for a long time, im proud of you for letting it out and doing your best <3

I'd say a person is their actions and thoughts, so you always are a person. Maybe the traits you can't see in yourself actually aren't here, but it doesn't mean you have nothing at all. But if you keep worrying and forcefully trying to change yourself it will be harder to see a new perspective. I'd say you need to relax and look for hints in your usual behavior. I don't know how to describe it well, but sometimes we value qualities we see in other people more than our own. Oh and please don't forget that the way you treat yourself also matters a lot: if you don't value traits you have they won't feel like something special

Hey, I'm not going to pretend and say I know exactly how hard what you're going through is. I do want to tell you that this was beautiful and vulnerable and resonated with me a lot. The fact that you create stuff like this is really cool and you should be proud of yourself (your art and animation is awesome and I hope you keep doing it!). Your experience is unique, but you should know other people are going similar things. I know it may seem like everyone else has it together, but other people's identities can change in dramatic ways, even if its over a longer period of time. A lot of people may act like they're "consistent", but their personality is more complex. Personally, I've struggled with being a different person around my friends and parents and feeling like neither one was truly "me". I may have seemed "consistent" to everyone else, but I felt like I was constantly changing back and forth. Whatever you're going through is probably harder, but I think you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself to be "consistent". Like, if you keep trying different aesthetics and never find one you like, that's fine! If you like something in the moment, I think that's all that matters. Again, take everything I said with a grain of salt, I don't know what it's like to be you and I'm sorry if I said anything wrong or insensitive. Astartai, I really hope you're doing well. You can do this.
