50/50 mix of Original Acoustic Rock and Random Covers. No editing, no overdubs, no auto tune. You can think of this channel as being one music lover’s attempt at keeping it Old School during the dawn of AI. ~ I started out playing acoustic in the late 1990’s, and then went on to perform in a grunge/metal band (State College-based Judgement) in the early 2000’s. We were once scheduled to open for Trapt, who had started getting radio play with “Headstrong”, but that gig was cancelled at the last minute because they needed to shoot a video as that song’s popularity continued to soar. When our rock n’ roll dreams died in 2003, I began to focus almost exclusively on the acoustic.~ VH1’s Behind the Music taught me that Jim Morrison had no musical training, which gave me the courage to charge blindly ahead. My parents instilled in me a love of Motown. My uncle introduced me to Stevie Ray Vaughan. Cornell is the best, and Burton Cummings the most underrated, vocalist of all time. ~Enjoy!
Cover Me (Candlebox ~ Acoustic Cover) - Dominic Valenti
So many times I’m listening to the radio and I think, “I should totally cover this song!” This, however, was never the case with this one. Several years ago, a good friend of mine [Chris (R.I.P.)] suggested that I cover Cover Me. I’m usually up for covering just about anything, and I almost always learn any song that’s suggested to me, so I immediately got on TH-cam and listened to it…and said “No way!! This is a monster of a song that I can’t even imagine playing.” And then I quickly forgot about it….until this past June when another dear friend (Adam), who never knew the first friend, texted me out of the blue and said, “You should totally cover Cover Me!” One request I can brush off, but this second request really struck me. I’m rarely asked to play anything these days, and so two unrelated requests for the same song changed my mind. At that moment, I decided that I was going to find a way to get through this song, come what may. The point of all this is that I don’t want anyone to think that I ever thought to myself, “Oh yeah, I can totally handle this tune!”
But I have given this song my utmost effort, and I thank my friends for encouraging me to dig deep. As always, ENJOY!!

I heard this song for the first time (that I remember) a few months ago, and I almost immediately started figuring out how to play it on acoustic, and so there wasn’t enough time for the piano parts to get fully cemented into my brain. But the piano on the original recording is absolutely fantastic, and so I can appreciate where you’re coming from. This highlights one of the perils of acoustic covers. Sometimes, stripping a song down to its acoustic bones allows you to experience a familiar tune in a new and exciting way. Other times, it only emphasizes just how essential the stripped-away elements are to making the song great in the first place. I can only say that I do my best to avoid being the musical equivalent of fat-free ice cream! 😋
If forced to accept some sort of label, Unitarian Universalist comes closest to describing me. I connect with this song as a celebration of all that is beautiful in the world 🙂
